December Availability

Planning for WDW right now is certainly a challenge! We are going the first week in December and taking extended family. I tried to book studios for some of the group, and there is no availability anywhere except SSR. This seems unusual at 9-10 months out. I'm wondering if this will change or if we're just out of luck. I don't know if there are fewer villas available because of Covid or if it's pent up demand or what. Our home resort is BCV, and I was hoping that if I couldn't get BCV for them (that's where we're staying) I could at least get BWV. I worry about my sister staying by herself so far from us as she is disabled.

Traditionally the 1st week of December is the highest demand time of the year for DVC. Members love, love low points, pleasant weather, Christmas decor, reasonable crowd levels in the parks, plus the annual member meeting.

I think this year in December is going to near impossible to book at 7 months to hope to switch anywhere. A lot of members have banked points to burn and are hoping the restrictions and Disney’s operations a little more normal by then. I wish you luck in getting what you want.

Waitlist when you can and keep checking. However, even 11 month studios were very hard to get for this year.

Studios at BWV are always very hard in December. One bedrooms may be possible.

As noted first week of Dec is the highest DVC demand week of the year (makes Easter look like the slowest of all possible off-seasons). That studios are already gone at BWV is normal for any year for that week, and this year you have the added problems of the 50th anniversary celebration and many having extra points as result of covid closings and cancellations. 1BRs also usually disappear fairly quickly at BWV for that week once the 11-month window opens at BWV. I note that you mention SSR is open. Unfortunately even SSR studios have a significant risk of being gone for that week before 7-months out.

I booked my First Week of Dec studio at 11 months out. If you waited until 9.5 months out, you are booking too late. You might have to book a one bedroom instead of a studio. Or at least wait list a studio. Or book a hotel room at BC.

OP doesn't own at SSR and we're outside of the 7 month window. The only thing they can do right now is waitlist BCV and stalk the RAT for any openings.
