I am a Disney Parks veteran, but this will be my first Disney Cruise. Family of 3 cruising on the Dream on December 9th 2012 to celebrate our anniversary on 12/12/12. Looking for great tips, advice and fellow vacationers. If you want to be part of our FE group see the information below. Participation in the FE is not required to be part of our meet. Just another way to have fun. and thanks to PrLisette for her great FE tread. Borrowed most of the verbiage from her.

Fellow December 9th, 2012 Disney Dream cruisers, let's get this FE ball rolling! Who wants to join the fun? This is the official FE sign up thread. If you are interested in joining, reply to this thread and I will put you on the list. Also, please subscribe so you won't miss out on any updates. When it gets closer to time, I will send out a complete list with final instructions. Feel free to add any input as this is OUR FE exchange, and we can do it HOWEVER we want! If you have sent me a PM, I have you down!

**I will need the first names of everyone in the room, the ages and genders of the kids, your stateroom number, and you can PM me your personal email address so that I will be able to send you the spreadsheet with all the participants' information. If you are new to the boards and cannot send a PM, let me know and I will PM you my personal email address so that you can email me the information. If you have reserved GTY and do not know your stateroom number, go ahead and send me the rest of the information, and I will update your stateroom number once you have it. Thanks!** I will only add your screen name and number of participants. All the personal information will only be sent to the group when we close the FE group list in October.

Fish Extender (FE) Gifts -December 9th 2012 Will close 8 WEEKS BEFORE OUR CRUISE DATE THAT WILL BE October 14th 2012. This will allow people to have time to order, make, assemble, personalize, etc their gifts. Thanks for your interest!

Guidelines for our fish extender:
1. Each cabin is to provide AT LEAST one gift to each cabin participating in the fish extender. You can provide a gift to each person within that cabin, just the kids, or one gift for the whole cabin...that is up to you. Of course, you are welcome to give more than one gift...but the minimum is one.
2. All gifts are to be delivered between the cruise leaving port on Sunday, December 9th until 4 PM on Wednsday, December 12th. This gives people time to still be able to pack their bags on the 12th before we leave the ship the morning of December 13th.
3.Please include a tag with your DISboard’s user name on the gift. This way everyone knows who the gift is from.

Here is a list of IDEAS of what you might want to bring for the FE on the cruise...to add to your packing list if you'd like:
1. The FE gifts that you are making/preparing -- total number will be announced after our sign up deadline.
2. An FE pocket/hanger to hang outside your cabin. You can find them on eBay by searching "Fish Extenders" or you can make one or search on line other places.
3. A zip tie to help attach your FE HANGER. Some people have commented theirs have sadly walked away...but if you attach it with a zip tie...then it is not as likely to walk away.
4. Scissors to cut the zip tie when you're packing...LOL! Don't want to leave it for someone else.
5. On the forum, some people recommend bringing thank you notes so you can write a quick note to the person who gave you a gift.

It may seem far away, but I think the time will go fast, just up until a few weeks before. Then it will drag because we're so anxious to get on the ship! My friend and I are already starting a folder with all of our FE ideas!

We are a family of four; 2 A's, 2 C and we will be first timers! I just 'jumped ship' from a three day cruise to this one because, well, everything I have been reading suggests that three days is just not long enough. My family does not even know about this cruise yet, but they will when I surprise my wonderful h on our anniversary; the night before this cruise at WDW!

I am not sure about the FE yet, so hoping I can decide later.

Welcome Aboard! I modified the original post to add a roll call. Therefore if we decide to have a meet and greet we will know who is on the cruise.

We just booked this cruise. This will be our fifth Disney cruise. This will be our 2nd time on the Dream, looking forward to see how Disney decorates it for Christmas.

The deadline for the signup is October 14th. So far there are 10 cabins signed up. I have done a December cruise before and I doubt there will be more then 20 cabins signing up. Usually it is the speciality cruises ,like Hawaii, etc that gets big turn outs for the FE exchange. For example I was on the Fantasy maiden voyage and we had 60 cabins in our gift exchange.

You only have to give a gift one time for the cruise. Sometimes on the longer 7 day or 14 day cruises, the cruisers might give more then one gift but on the 3 to 4 day cruises, one gift is the norm.

Your cabin will have a metal clip outside your cabin door, in the shape of a fish or starfish or seashorse (depending where your cabin is). When you unpack the first day, hang your FE from the metal clip.

For the gifts, you can give one per cabin or one for each person in the cabin, it is really up to you. You can make a gift or buy a gift. It doesn't have to be an expensive gift, one of my favorite gifts I've received in the past was some zip lock baggies (cheap but very handy). I've received handmade scrapbooks, magnets, keychains, cd's, bookmarks, first aid kits, etc. It is so much fun to see what cruisers make, Disney fanatics can be very creative.

You can distribute your gifts whenever you want but the norm is to distribute the first two days of the cruise. Or passing out gifts during the Sea Day is popular too. We usually walk around the first night around midnight to pass out gifts cause we are too wound up to fall asleep.

I love the FE gift exchanges. It is so much fun to return to our cabin throughout the day to see what gifts are waiting for us. I really can't imagine doing a Disney cruise without a FE exchange. It is just one more thing that makes a Disney cruise special.
