We are new to camping at Disney but have owned an RV for years. We have a reservation at OKW 12/5-12/12 booked already but have some extra time and we're considering camping at Ft Wilderness instead. I cannot find any availability for a full week October-December, is this normal? Is it always completely booked? We would prefer December but are flexible. I am working on calling but yesterday hold times were really long. Thanks!!

Dunshie,

By now, 6-8 months out, it will be hard to find stretches of days available. Weekends often book up near the 499 day mark. October is when camping season starts for Florida locals so weekends go very fast.

October is VERY popular at the Fort because of the decorations the campers put out for Halloween. That is quickly replaced with Christmas decorations soon after. October-December is some of the busiest time at the Fort.

Some have been successful piecing together stays, a day at a time. That takes persistence and stalking the web site or calling in often. This is usually done best closer to the 30 day mark when packages have to be paid up.

So the strange thing is if I search for single nights the whole duration of when we want to go, there is availability but when I change it to 2+ nights, nothing comes up

I could not explain all the reasons why this happens (though our super helpful poster Bama_ed has explained the (his?) thought process as to why a lesser amount of consecutive nights are available when a longer stretch of those same nights is not)... in any case, IF all the nights you would want to stay are available as single nights, you could go and reserve each of those nights as an individual reservation (the hassle being you will have to give deposit and get a separate reservation number for each of those individual nights). Then, after you have ALL the nights you need together, you get on phone to a CM (there is a certain CM type that seems better able to help at doing this ... can’t recall if it is a Fort CM or the CM’s at a certain reservation number) who can “merge” the reservations into one single reservation/reservation number (therefore a single stay which would alleviate the possibility of having to switch sites each day). Keep in mind that all the reservations would have to be the same level of reservation (is: full hook up, premium meadow, etc... mixed site types would not work and you would have to change sites each time you reserved a different type/level). People who REALLY want to put forth the effort of calling and checking website multiple times daily to string together the days needed GENERALLY seem to have good success at getting the desired dates... also, and someone else may point out the exact time frame of this, as it gets closer to the time that people have to pay up in full do the stay, there tend to be a few more openings as people cancel. I am putting this out there from everything I have gleaned over the past 6 years on this thread. Good Luck!

Congrats! We have camped at the fort 6 times in the last 3 years. My oldest of 3 children will be 4 this June, but we love the Fort and camping works better for us with littles than the other resorts.

Awesome! We stayed at okw twice last year with our 2 year old. She will be 3.5 by the time we go and we just had a baby at the beginning of April. Glad to hear you have a few little ones and it's worked out well for you. Also nice to save some money and be able to stay a few extra days!
