December 2009 - A Celebration of many things

LOL I didn't think you'd be down with the gift, but we are Yankee fans. Also a lot of people forget that Babe Ruth started his career as a Red Sox (well actually the Orioles first then the Red Sox) and he was actually very successful with them! With Boston, he became one of the game's best pitchers, posting 29 consecutive scoreless innings in World Series play and that was the record for 42 years. He led the AL with a 1.75 ERA and nine shutouts in 1916, going 23-12 for the World Champion Red Sox, and won a career high 24 in 1917. Even as a pitcher for the Red Sox he had a career average of .304 and once he moved to the outfield he was a .325 hitter. In 1918 and 1919 he led the AL in homeruns and in 1919 led the ML with a record of 29!! LOL that's my little Babe Ruth baseball schpiel! We went to Cooperstown in May and it was like the high light of my summer!!

PS- I hear there is awesome "chowda" at Fenway? Yes, no?

Babe Ruth is the reason we went 80-some-odd years between winning world series. The Curse of the Great Bambino! I still remember the signs from 2004 "REVERSE THE CURSE!" Then Johnny Damon goes and sells his soul to the devil... err Yankees... and I was a little worried we were in for it again. We've got a great team led by a great coach and I've got faith we can do it again! 2004 :cool1: 2007  2009 :worship:

About Fenway :sad1: I have only had tickets to one Red Sox game... and it was during the strike in the 90's. I have never been to Fenway. I can attest that chowdah in general is excellent in these parts, but can not give opinions of Fenway chowdah. Now this is a horrible thing to say, but secretly I kinda wish the Red Sox would suck again, then maybe I could afford to go see a game! :headache:

LOL I was hoping you might have forgotten about that! I was watching the travel channel over the weekend and they were doing this whole thing on best bar food and they had this place in Boston, I think it was called The Oyster House?? Anyway it's like the oldest bar in Boston, dating back to the Revolution and I am dying to go now. I haven't been to Boston since I was about 9. I'll leave my Yankee gear at home!

Gosh! I feel like I have missed about a month's worth of updates!
Your countdown is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cute! I love everything about it!
Your anniversary sounds like it was absolutely wonderful! Congrats on that one year! (And, we did save the top of the cake...you didn't miss anything! LOL)

No worries!! Glad your back! I was actually very proud of that countdown, the only bad part is that now we have to actually take the numbers off!! :lmao: bitter sweet I suppose.

FORGET?! Are you serious?! :lmao:

Visit Boston! Let me know ahead of time and maybe I can hook you up with some Library passes for museums/aquariums/and such. Cheap Chic, right?!

I just stumbled upon your PTR and I'm definitely now a loyal follower. I just love your positive attitude and your witty writing style. I also feel better when I find others who are Disoholics like me...makes me feel not so crazy.

Check out my ticker...we'll be right on each others heels for a few days. We're planning on being in Epcot in the PM on 12/4 and DHS in the AM on 12/5. Are you still planning on being there on those days?

The preschool teacher in me has me lovin' your adorable Santa hat countdown. :lovestruc I might have to steal that idea! I actually finished making a cute one for my DS11 today. It's hidden under my bed because our trip is still a secret. We aren't going to reveal it until 2 weeks before we leave on 12/3. I've never posted photos before, but I would love to learn how so I could post pictures of it. Maybe I can learn how over the weekend...

By the way, my cheap chic tric is to save pocket change. We have a big glass water jug that my friend personalized for my son, She painted Mickey carrying a suitcase heading to the castle on the front. It says "Disney or Bust". We put all of our change in it and just before every trip my son rolls all the coins in our coin rolling machine. We always wrap several hundred $ that we then put on a Disney gift card for snacks, drinks, souvenirs, etc... :thumbsup2

I our cake cutting song was the song from the end of The Muppet's take Manhattan. You know the one when they're in the church and you have all the Muppets and Big Bird and his Sesame Street friends and they're singing "She'll make him happy, now and forever, until forever their love will grow..."

I already told Greg that we'll be seeing you on the ME and I told him to story about you and Marzi and how the two of you are meeting and your mom and Janis are meeting in MCO too!! He was like "That's a crazy story!" and I told him that if we see you (when we see you) I'll have to chat it up with you, within reason, I don't want to impose on your Marzi time!! :)
That song is so perfect. I cried when I heard that song when I was a child. I had completely forgotten about it until you just posted it now....and I cried again. I'm a sap.

Don't even worry about imposing on me and Marzi time, I consider everyone on the Dis my friend. That will be so cool see each other at ME. I am so looking forward to meeting you and your DH. I really hope it works out that way. God forbid one of our flights is delayed and we miss eachother by a bus ride.

Nic, your wedding photos - STUNNING! Every single one of them is gorgeous, they each tell a story and you both look so in love and happy, the photographer truly captured the magic of your day, it looks perfect

I may have to steal your idea of using players/numbers as the table numbers!

FORGET?! Are you serious?! :lmao:

:rotfl2: LOL only half serious!!!

Visit Boston! Let me know ahead of time and maybe I can hook you up with some Library passes for museums/aquariums/and such. Cheap Chic, right?!

Totally!! As long as our financial situation continues to improve (and the job I've been waiting on comes through sooner rather than later) We'll definitely take a trip next year. Next year will probably, hopefully be the last year without kiddies. So we're hoping to get the vacation/travel bug out of our system.

I just stumbled upon your PTR and I'm definitely now a loyal follower. I just love your positive attitude and your witty writing style. I also feel better when I find others who are Disoholics like me...makes me feel not so crazy.

Okay, so two things 1) Thank you, thank you, thank you for stopping by and joining in on my PTR fun! 2) So I'm not sure if you saw but I made the tie-dye Mickey shirts. DH came out better (and he was never completely into wearing them, he was just going to do it to make me happy) so he gave me his. ANYWAY!! I saw you on another thread and saw your signature with the picture of you and your family with the shirts on and I was like "I TOTALLY HAVE TO DO THAT!!!!" So you were the inspiration!! And I can't believe you found me!!!!

LOL and yes we may find each other in the parks! For me, once the itinerary is set, that's it! Mostly because I spend many months before that hours actually come out crossing my fingers and pouring myself into making a perfect schedule. So when the hours come out and everything matches up, I put the itinerary to bed until it is time to leave! I'll keep my eyes peeled.

That song is so perfect. I cried when I heard that song when I was a child. I had completely forgotten about it until you just posted it now....and I cried again. I'm a sap.

I'm a sap too!! It just seemed like a perfect song!!

:scared1: On no!! Don't say such things!! Blasphemy, blasphemy I tell you!!! Everything will work out the way it should be because Mickey is magic and he makes the good things happen!!!! (LOL I tell myself this just because I refuse to admit anything can go wrong)

I'll be in those places at those times as well. :lmao: I like me some extra magic hours!

I shall keep my eyes peeled for you too!! I know we'll probably all run into each other at the Pick a Pearl Station in Japan. That's a must do for me too!!!

Nic, your wedding photos - STUNNING! Every single one of them is gorgeous, they each tell a story and you both look so in love and happy, the photographer truly captured the magic of your day, it looks perfect

Thanks JoJo!! When we got the album I literally cried. It's been a rough year so seeing the album and the culmination of the whole thing just brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me that all that money was worth it and it reminded me of us and our wedding and how great that actual day really was!

I may have to steal your idea of using players/numbers as the table numbers!

Let me tell you what a hit those were! Everyone thought they were the greatest things ever, we had people trying to steal numbers from other tables. LOL there were a few near fist fights over these numbers. The funny thing was that people were gushing over the one thing that cost like $5 for us to make. Probably not even that! Greg made a template for the numbers and then just printed them and we attached them to poster board and put a stand on the back and that was it. LOL I kind of felt like when you give a kid an awesome present and they're more interested in the box!! :rotfl:

With all us following each other's PTRs like this, and most of our dates overlapping... I won't be the least bit surprised if before too long we're setting up a DIS meet somewhere. :rotfl:

Are you kidding me about the t-shirts? That's just crazy unbelievable. I was actually thinking of making another one for myself that didn't have so many bright colors (I'm not a huge color lover); but since it's a surprise trip, I didn't want to risk making my son suspicious. I'm considering saying that I'm making one for a friend at work. Hopefully, he'll buy that explanation. ;)

I am so not even kidding you!! And I convinced Greg to let me make one more shirt so we can have matching shirts. As I said his came out the best so he gave it to me so I could wear then I pointed out that it was no fun unless we both had one. He's such a good sport!!

I think you should definitely make your shirts in secret!! They are so much fun, so much Disney, and so much of a bargain. LOL if you couldn't tell I loves me a good bargain!!

So the next few installments I am going to call Disney past past (see above), Disney past (which will cover the 2006 trip) and Disney future (which will cover my must brings and some miscellaneous fun Disney stuff)

Disney past past:
In 1990 my family went to Disney world, and my cousins tagged along too. It was a magical trip filled with excitement, wonderment, and pure glee!! When I look back, it is truly my most prized and happiest childhood memory. I remember when my parents told us we were going. It was the 1990 Super Bowl (Yes, the Super Bowl) and my parents had made a good bet and came into a large sum of money. And what a better way to spend your gambling winnings than taking the family to Disney World? And they did just that. My cousins tagged along because they too had always wanted to go to Disney World. It was just my cousin Debbie (the mom) and her daughters, Vanessa and Christina (obviously also my cousins). Their Dad was not so much into Disney, or vacationing at all for that matter. We were all very close when we were growing up, we spent every Christmas Eve together from birth until I was 24 as well as other countless holidays, birthdays, just because days, and now Disney!

So this first picture has always been one of my favorites!! I have no idea why Disney ever got rid of this, I just thought it was so great to get all dressed up like a pirate and take a Pirates of the Caribbean picture.

This is me and the White Rabbit. Please do not be fooled by my expression, trust me I was so excited I could hardly contain myself, but when I was younger I was never really one for pictures. So there are some pictures where I look down right RESERVED. But you will also notice that as the trip progressed I did not even seem to mind the camera (PS- this is a “phobia” that I have gotten over in my old age. I was a VERY shy child, and my brother was always the out going one. That kid could talk to bark off a tree! LOL so growing up it was always the “Anthony Show” as I like to call it. As I got older I came into my own and really found ME and who I was as a person separate of Anthony’s little sister – a title that still sort of follows me. But alas, as you can tell , I hope, I really blossomed into my college/adulthood years and now I can strike up a conversation with anyone!)

The infamous Chip picture!! Now, I know there is a picture of Dad with this Daisy Duck hat on somewhere, I think he’s confiscated it! Trust me it was almost as hilarious as his run in with the Sheriff of Nottingham! Okay so quickly, (and this is on video, totally priceless!!) we’re in the front on MK outside the Main Street train station, and the characters form Robin Hood are out there. So we’re getting pictures with Prince John and the Sheriff. Now because this is the early 90’s we all have our fanny packs on, including Dad. So the Sheriff of Nottingham does up to Dad and starts to shake his fanny pack indicating that Dad should give him the money in it. So my Dad says, “I’m not giving you my money, you given me your money!” and the Sheriff had like a little money satchel tied to his belt and my Dad goes and shakes it! This went on for a little while, it was hysterical!! They kept going back and forth trying to “steal” each others money. I wish there was a way to get VHS onto youtube easily! LOL just picture this very serious looking, 100% Italian man hamming it up the Sheriff on Nottingham! See, Disney even turns serious people like Dad into softies! (PS-Dad has turned into a major softy in his old age!! Out of all the parents he was the most thrilled that Greg and I were getting married. He cried when I told him. Plus I’ve always been a Daddy’s girl!)

Me and Pluto (and cousin Christina buried under his arm) at the character breakfast on the Empress Lilly. I don’t remember where the Empress Lilly was (MK maybe), but it was a boat and they used to host a character breakfast. I think it was replaced by Chef Mickey’s, but if there are any old school Disney people out there, please let me know where this was.

After a LOOOONG day at the parks! I think we were on the boat back to the parking lot over by the TTC.

Skyway to Tomorrowland!

I know that is at Epcot, I believe in Horizons. As you can see Christina was a ham for the camera.

Well I hope you enjoyed that little pictorial of Disney past past.

On a side note I packed all my summer clothes to put them away. T-shirts stay our year round and I am going with jeans for Disney. Greg and I are hoping for 70-75 weather wise, but I think we’ll be okay with jeans, t-shirts, and layers. Also, packing away seasonal clothes is always a time for me to genuflect. I think about the next time I will take these clothes out of the bin, where I will be, what I’ll be doing. I thought to myself last night, hey maybe the next time you take these clothes out you will be packing them for a quick early May Disney getaway for Greg’s 30th!! I honestly almost have him sold on this! All I had to say was this, “Are you really ready to not go back to Disney until our babies are old enough to go!?!?!” Greg is just as much a Disney sucker as I am, so his reply was, “Okay, lets see if we get a bounce back offer.” I knew I’d get him!!

Also, I sort of picked up another job, this one is part time. I will fill you guys in on the job drama very quickly: When I lost my job Dad asked me if I wanted him to get my a job with the Town of Oyster Bay, local government (he’s retired from the Town and my mom currently still works for them). I said of course because I think about things like good, cheap benefits (Greg’s are currently costing us an arm and a leg) and retirement plans and pensions. So poor Dad has been working on this since last Election Day, Nov 2008. In May we got the word that they would definitely hire me, but probably not until after this Election Day (don’t you love how organized this whole thing is). So then I just had to kind of sit and wait. So then I feel into this job, answering phones at a construction company. My boss has been very generous to me, as business is few slow due to the economy and he also knew I would be leaving once my Town job came through (Probably Jan). So in discussion about my Disney vaca he mentioned that my last day may be right before my vacation, which is okay. I can’t blame him as things are slow and between when I get back and when they close for Christmas not much goes on here. So I picked up a part time job at AC Moore for two reason: 1) we are okay with money but if we have the opportunity to put away more then I will 2) Am I completely selfish that the first thing I thought of was a discount on my scrapbook stuff for my Disney album?!?! I think not!

Cheap Chic Tip – Shop generic, or at least try it so you are sure that it is worth it to spend more if you have to. But you will be surprised many things are pretty much the same, some are better. The Stop & Shop brand English muffins are FAR SUPERIOR than Thomas’s brand. I was shocked, and at less than half the price how could you beat it?
This isn’t so much money saving as it is just a Disney smart tip - ADR's: most of us have made them, but I will share this tip. Let's take Greg and I for example, we are a party of 2. When you ask/search for a party of 2 the system is only going to show availability for the 2 people tables. If you change your search to 3 people the system all of a sudden will give you the availability of 4 people tables. And I have double checked, Disney will not turn you away even if you just show up with 2 people.

Whoa. Is this for real? For seriously real? That just blows my mind a bit. Thank you SO much for the tip, I will start employing this method in my Le Cellier & Boma quests. :rotfl:

Great blast from the past! Thanks for sharing!!!

About your cheap chic tips - I am def going to be trying the S&S english muffins! Also, I thought I was cheating the system by booking my ADR with a higher number... Ask Erin, I had to confess my sins to her. SO are you saying I should not call Disney beforehand and adjust my party size?

<<CONFESSION>> The only way I was able to get our 5:05 ADR for O'hana was to stalk the online ressies daily... I finally got it for 6A and 3C... we're a party of 2A, 1C... I feel guilty, should I call to adjust or keep looking forward? <<CONFESSION END>>

Hi there- i am a newbie to your report. i am going 12/10-12/20.

really enjoying it. I totally feel you on the job situation- i was laid off like a month before my wedding back in 2001. in fact we had a shower scheduled for me that day, and it never happened as we were all walked out to our cars. nice huh? I know how down and depressed you can get too- it is amazing how much we base our self worth on our jobs sometimes. i've gone through layoffs twice. it is no fun.

hopefully what you are doing now will get you by and the job of your dreams will come along soon. i know i am hoping so too (pretty miserable where i am- money's great, but hate it!). :rotfl:

so happy belated anniversary!! love the old school pics- it reminds me of our trips back in the early 80s and 90s.

Okay, SO here is how the conversation with the CM went

Me: I have an ADR at (fill in name of eatery here) on (date) at (time) for 3 people. It's possible that only 2 of us will be able to make the ADR. Is this a problem?
CM: No not a problem at all.
Me: I may not know until that day. Is that a problem?
CM: No, that is not a problem

Now, I have also felt the "lying to Disney" guilt and I am almost positive I will call to adjust the number of people. But I will say that during all of our "book ADR's during free dining madness" this trick worked like a charm. I only had to use it for two places, but it did work.

I think this evening I am going to call and adjust the number of people and I will let you know how it goes.

YOU are my favorite person in the world today. Your little ADR trick? It didn't score me Le Cellier, but it DID get me the Boma time I preferred! Weeks ago, I booked 4:55pm because that's all they had for party of 2, but I wanted 6:00pm so we didn't have to leave AK so early. I've been checking back hoping for something later.

Today it was still coming up no availability for party of 2, but guess what? I put in party of 4 and I got 6:00pm exactly! Not 5:55pm, not 6:05pm. :worship:

One less ADR to worry about, now all I gotta do is catch that pesky Le Cell! :rotfl:

Thank you soooo much for the tip! :goodvibes
