December 2008 Code Watch

We are planning on my and my DD first trip to WDW on 12/5 to 12/13. I just booked our flights today. I see on this thread that people have booked their rooms years in advance. We are going as cheap as possible and plan to stay in POP. Will I be able to find us a room? Panicking now... we were hoping to discover a big Disney 40% discount so were waiting around for that... should I book a AAA res? I gather I should do that by calling WDW directly?

I would book today and heres why:
This is my tragic story of waiting to book.
We just got back about a month aga and I decided that we were going to go back for a quick trip in august. I booked our airfare the day we got back. i didn't book our resort yet because we were going to stay at the value resorts and I didn't really care which one. I was going to wait till they released some AP discounts. i just happen to be messing around on disney's web sight 3 days ago and saw that everything was booked for my dates except 1 room at the all star sports in a prefered room. So I called Disney and had to book that room a full rack rate plus an extra 12$ a night for a prefered room. Now I'm not happy at all but at least I was able to get a room and not have to pay an additional 65 $ a night for a mod. Now if an AP rate comes out I can modify my ressie. It was my fault for waiting and I have learned my lesson the hard way.

Definitely book now, it was hard for us to get a reservation for Dec 7-14 and I booked a while back. Have you tried to call disney reservations and see if you have a discount code already in your name? I know this is your first visit, but if you ever ordered from disney, or ordered the planning dvd, etc... you may have a code. If you book a room and a better discount comes up they let you apply it to your reservation. Or you can book now, and remember when your last day to cancel with a 100% refund and you can change your reservation if a discount comes out. The AAA discount I found when we were looking was a good discount. They were the cheapest out there at the time. GOOD LUCK!:santa:

We made the decision the beginning of this year to go to WDW and stay at WL in Dec for our honeymoon. I found the DISboard and wanted to wait for a pin code before getting room reservation. I checked the Disney Website daily and there were always rooms available but ONE day the cheapest thing available was Woods View w/bunk bed!! That was the cheapest?! I panicked and called and made my reservations then and there. lol Luckily :goodvibes I read on here that people make cancellations all the time so a few weeks later in the early morning I called and there was a regular woods view available! So book ASAP now & cancel/modify later is the way to go!

...and you passed up the never-ending milage you'd get out of the story about spending your honeymoon in a bunk-bed room?:rotfl2: Boy, you missed a good opportunity here!

DSIL and I would like to take my Niece to WDW for her Senior year. The end of November or beginning of December would work out nicely with her schedule. Just hoping for a discount code.

Having spent years utilizing annual passes and their room discounts I have now limited myself to yearly visits and package deals. My question is that since most everything seeems to have been booked up for the end of the year, why would they offer discounts? Just so that we can all rebook our same reservations and try for a 40% discount?

Anybody remember the days of the old MAgic Kingdom Club discounts?? Ahh the good ol' days

Hi - Going to Disney as we have for the past 3 (wow - has it been that long?!) years.

This time we are doing a split stay

11-23 to 11-30 Pop Century
11-30 to 12-06 Polynesian

I know I know weird lodging combination
- Pop is for kids...Poly is for hubby.

I need a discount especially on the poly ressie - Garden view - as I couldnt even book the AAA rate as they were all taken :furious:

The Dec discounts are for before Christmas. =When they are not sold out early. Last year I think we got in on the 22 & we could apply the discount for our entire stay to the 30th.

I'm not sure how that will work this year with the new day by day pricing .

I was a member of the Magic Kingdom Club. :goodvibes

I did the Magic Kingdom Club for DH's first trip a couple years after we were married. I can't remember if I was able to use it when we went back the next year or not. It may have been done away with by then. But that was a pretty good discount.

I am currently booked for FW from 17th to 27th but really hoping for a code for SSR. Stayed last year for $222 (40% code, didn't have a pin) a night for same period. One thing I thought was interesting is that every single resort was available to book online at Disney last night for those dates. Last year I book SSR in March had wanted BCV or WLV but sold out. So glad they were as loved SSR. So surprised that everything still available for this Xmas. Hopefully this will mean some good discounts to come. Also interested to see how they treat AP code for Xmas now they have individula night pricing. Anyway fingers crossed.

What was the MK club? Never heard of it before.

Disney had a club you could join through your employer. They also recruited a Magic Kingdom Club Director at the Company to help answer questions about Disney Vacations/Parks. The Director would sign up employees and give them cards they could use at WDW and Disneyland for discounts on packages and park purchases. Further the Director would get free park passes and a better Package Discount for being Disney’s representative. You could also upgrade your Magic Kingdom Club membership for $35.00 and this would get you a Magazine. I still have 50 or so brochures and membership cards left over from when I was a Director for Quaker Oats. Of course the Magic Kingdom Club posters still hang in my office and their Yellow Mickey Luggage tags adorn my travel carry ons….
Disney stopped the program in the middle to late 90’s.

Okay, that's not the same thing I was thinking of them. Becauase we used it in 2001 and maybe 2002, I don't remember. But I thought it was called Magic Kingdom Club.

I called and joined and paid like $35 or something. I got a little membership card in the mail. Then when I made my reservation I got like 20% off the room or something. When we got there we had old tickets from when I was a kid that I upgraded and I showed the membership card again and got like maybe 5% off the tickets or something.

The Magic Kingdom Club ended Dec 31 2000. Disney did put another club in place calling it the Disney Club, it was $40.00 and did not live long. They did offer package discounts but not as nice as the MKC.
