Our 3 day cruise on the Wonder is only two days away. I'm all ready to go.
Hopefully this will help to pass the time until 06 cruises. I'll let you know next week how it goes. Just the two of us this time.

If you check this thread onboard, give us a "live" update so we can all be jealous!!!!

Glad to see some more people joining up. I'm trying to talk my in-laws into coming along for a mini-reunion. But I gotta get 'em to book soon, as I see that prices have gone up again. If they're going I need to get them in before prices go too much higher.

I hate to wish time away, but I wish it was Dec. 06 already. Although at least I have my January trip to the World to look forward to and the Disney Marathon. Time will fly, I know.

Howdy everybody,
We just got back a couple of hours ago from our 3 day cruise on the Wonder.
It was AWESOME!!! It was our 6th cruise and was one of the best yet.
Everything was perfect. The weather was in the mid 80's or hotter, but a nice breeze so it never seemed too hot. Last night there was no wind on deck at all so we stood on deck 10 and watched a gorgeous sunset. WE saw 2 that were great. Our pictures don't do it justice.
At Nassau we didn't take an excursion this time, we just browsed the straw market for bargains and then walked over to the pirates museum, which we thoroughly enjoyed. There is a lot of plaques to read, so younger kids would be kind of bored, but if your into history about the Bahamas, it's really worth the $12 to get in. The pirate you greets you outside is a real HOOT!!!
He tried to steal our watches and rings and any other loot we might of had on us. He was great. We also took the horse and carriage ride through the town. $10. per person, tips optional. It was about 25 minutes long and our driver Tommy did a lot of narrating which was nice, but he was hard to hear due to all the noise around you while you rode through the streets. But it was very relaxing and worth the price. We also had both the adult hot tubs and pool all to ourselves a few times which was really nice. We had seen the shows before so did other intertainment instead.
Now there has been a lot of chatter about the pirates dinner and party, so here is what I will say about it.
DON'T MISS IT!!!!!! It was the absolute best deck party we have ever been to, and full of surprizes for all ages. get right down in the crowd, up close to the stage. Do dress with something pirate to fit in. It can be as simple as a pirate t-shirt or, headbands, eye patch, something along that line. They do sell some bandanas and eye patches in the gift shop on board, and at the pirate museum too. halloween should provide some choices at your local stores. I won't give away the rest, but you have to do the party or you'll be sorry. Anyway I could go on forever about little details but that would take forever. The entertainment was especially good this time too. Don and Tommie in the Promenade Lounge were acceptionally good and willing to talk to you and take request if they knew the songs. We'll I have laundry to do and stuff to unpack, and now i'm getting excited for the 7 days we will be spending together on the magic. I did meet 3 other Dis families on board and they were great people. We all had a great time. :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Welcome Home Kathy!!
I'm so glad you had a great trip! We too loved Pirate night! When DH heard about it, He went a little nuts. He asked my friend who can sew to make him a costume! It was a bit hit, and he had a blast.

Aren't the webcam and the slide shows of the Magic going through the Panama canal awesome. They made me tear up a little. Oh I wish I were on the ship.

By the way, we had pirates night on our cruise this past Jan. I agree it is excellent. The menus are special, you get bandanas to wear, the CM all have priates outfits, there's a BIG party up on deck, and Fireworks. I didn't want the night to end.
pirate:
I'm off to WDW in 103 days! I need a Disney fix ::MickeyMo. Wish it were only 103 days till our cruise.

Hi everyone,

:cheer2: :cheer2: We just returned from our DCL Panama Canal Cruise and 2 days at Disneyland.

We had the greatest time on the cruise. :) We made a point to just relax and enjoy every moment. We were lucky enough to get three "complete" pin sets. Not an easy task, as you have probably heard. We got off at all of the ports, so we could look around. I personally like the Carribean ports better then the Mexican ones.

Disneyland was overly crowded!! :guilty:

Cindy

Cindy,
Welcome home!
I'm so glad you had fun!! DH and I really wanted to go on one of the Repo cruises, but we had too much planned for this year already. When DH heard that the muppets were on the ship he was totally bummed. He LOVES the muppets. (I think he may BE part muppet)
:hourglass

Welcome back, Cindy.
Glad to hear you had a good time. How was your weather?
This may sound like a crazy question but, did they have the midnight dessert buffet? If so, did you go? If you did, do you remember if they had any sugar free desserts? Nobody seems to know if they have sugar free on the dessert buffet. DH is a diabetic and would like to know. We would hate to walk in and see all those lucious desserts and not be able to have one.
Thanks. Kathy

I can't imagine how cool :cool1: it was to go through the panama canal. I had tears in my eyes just watching the Magic go through the canal on the webcam.

MX4,GX4... it seems to me when we were on the Magic in Jan there were sugar free desserts on the midnight buffet. Because I kind of remember thinking... Hey, my dad could have dessert too. (also a diabetic) :flower:

I just booked the december 2 cruise today! I will be traveling with my husband and two children they will be 2 1/2 and 1 at the time of the cruise. anyone have any advice for traveling with small children? I am a little scared of dining with other people. any advice would help. thanks... ::MickeyMo

gabysmom04,
Glad to have you with us.
We have taken young grandkids with us on cruises so I can offer you a little advie.
1. Don't worry about the dining with others. Some tables only have 4 people at them some can have 6 or 8. You may have a small one all to yourselves.
Plus this is Disney, it is not meant to be a quiet meal time, accept at Palo's. There are little kids everywhere!!! Yes there are spills and some crying, but mostly the little ones fall asleep, even at early dining. Most have been so busy all day that once they get a little warm food in their tummy's they fall asleep. The wait staff caters to the kids. :rotfl: They are fantastic with the little ones. If your worried about the menu for kids it has many choices and if you want something special, just ask they will do it if at all possible. My GS wanted a cheeseburger a few times and they were not on the menu so they sent up to the food places by the pool and had one delivered just for him.
At lunch the buffet has one side of the table that is all kid friendly foods too, which is nice.
2. If you want you can reserve a time in the nursery to have someone watch you children while you dine. They are limited and it is who ever reserves first. It's $6. per hour , per child, 2 hour minimum.
3. If you don't want to use the dining room you can get pizza, hamburgers, fries, chips, chicken sandwiches, chicken strips, around the pools. Usually they open around 11:00 a.m. and stay open until 11:00 at night. but check the navigator, because sometimes the hours vary.
4. Scoops ice cream parlor always has fantastic fruit table to choose some healthy snacks from. Put a little extra fruit on a plate and put in the frig in your room for a late snack in case your children fall asleep at dinner time.
Scoops has some wraps(sandwiches) too.
5. Then you have room service. Really basic stuff, sandwiches, soups, mac and cheese ect.. No extra charge, but gratuity is optional for this service.

Personally I'd go to the main dining room and see how it goes. There are so many little kids there nd no one seems to mind if they are making noise, because everyone is sharing all their experiences with each other, so it's got a lot of noise anyway.

If your going to let your kids in the Mickey Pool ( one ear is reserved for the little ones to play in) remember to take a lot of Drypers or swim diapers, they have some for sale on ship, but they are very expensive!!! And they usually sell out quickly. And lots of sunblock, there is no shade over any of the pools and again, they do sell it, but it's very expensive. :earseek:

If you do the character meet and greets in the atrium, get there early, at least 15 minutes ahead of time or you may be waiting an hour only to have the characters go back in until the next time. :confused3

There is a gazebo on deck 9 by the family pool where characters appear a few times, there are not as many people there, lines are usually very short and move quickly. Your navigator will have times listed for you.

On castaway cay ,the navigator will have a time listed where characters will be along the walk way to the beach. They have very short lines and they move pretty fast as most people are on their way to the beach and don't stop. This is a great time for the little ones not to have to wait really long lines.

Most people don't realize that there is a sand box in the grouper game room that is a great place for little ones to play.It is under a covered area so you don't have to worry about the sun or wind as much. :flower:

The bike rentals do have baby seats on some of them and they do have helmets, if you want to take them for a ride. :wizard:

Most of the shows in the disney theater do feature a few characters, your children may like to see them on stage. The theater is full of families and that includes lots of little kids that make noise, ask questions and get restless, so don't worry about that either. Most kids quiet right down when the characters appear or when the music starts. You can take a drink or snack into the theater for them to help occupy them if you want. They have a concession stand just out side of the theater on one side. Try to show u p 15 minutes early to get a good seat, but there really aren't any bad seats

One tip is, if you go to that theater or the movie theater, grab a free drink from the drink stand on deck 9 and take with you instead of buying a drink in the theater. In the afternoon they bring a cookie tray to the drink area, take an extra cookie for each kid and save to take to the theater. That saves a little money.
While in your room, there is a TV channel that shows all animated disney cartoons that the kids can watch while your unpacking or cleaning up, as well as the disney channel. ::MickeyMo
If you take strollers, it easiest to use the umbrella type, as the halls can get crowded around dinner time. Regular strollers do fit and you will see a few, but the umbrella ones are best for the ship and for excursions or just fitting into the shops. They have very narrow isles in them.
I hope this helps some, if you have any specific questions, be sure to ask, even if I can't answer them, someone will. People are very helpful on these threads.
Welcome aboard,
Kathy

I have yet another question about food! I am five months pregnant and food is all I think about :) Anyway, do people order more then one meal or different things at dinner? I mean is it something that a lot of people do? I have a passporter book that gives you an idea about menus and there are so many things that I would like to try. also for anyone who has ben on the western cruise before, what are good things to do in ports with very small children? I was thinking I would just do the beaches. thanks! ::MickeyMo

Food!!
We all think about that on a cruise.
at dinner different people we have been with, plus my DH have ordered extra things to try. Sometimes my DH has ordered 2 or 3 appetizers and we shared them with everyone so we could all get ataste of new things. We have had as many as 8 different appetizers for our family to share at once.
I have seen many people do this. My DS has asked many times for a small taste of some soups and chowders. He made sure they knew he was ordering something else, but just wanted to try a taste. They still brought out a huge bowl. We have sat with strangers who have done this too. Then at dessert time, I have seen as many as 3 desserts brought to one person before. They are small portions, but very rich and your so full from dinner you dont need much. You can eat dessert at dinner aand ask for a different dessert to take back to your room for later too. This is done quite often. They do have one rule, they cant send 2 desserts of the same item to the same room. They have to be different desserts. I don't know why this is a rule, but it is. I have read many cruise reports of people running into this problem. So remember to have different desserts to take back to your room.
They have a midnight dessert buffet one night, you can serve yourself all you want or take it back to your room. They don't mind special requests, if they can do it, they will.
I don't know about the excursions on the western. This is our first time on the western cruise, we have done the eastern twice, and the 3 and 4 days a few times. But the beach seems like a safe idea for such little ones.
Hopefully someone else on this thread may have some ideas for you.

I am sooo bummed, I had recently changed jobs (March) and found out that where I am now working, they don't allow any vacations from end of Nov - Jan 11. That really stinks. Looks like I may be quitting my job if they don't let me have the time off. :sad2: We have to take our vacations when DH has the time off and this is one of the few times except the beginning of Jan. Which is still place of works no vacation time...UGGGHH so depressing. I enjoy my job, but family is so excited about going on cruise. Well I am too I cannot tell a lie! Kinda in a bit of a pickle.. It is just sooo depressing.

mom x4,grandma x4, I have to say, you are wonderful! I love to eat, but I was worried to order more then one thing at dinner. From what I have been reading the food is supposed to be really good. I plan my trips around food. We are going to disney world in september and I have had our breakfast, lunch, and dinner planned for months already! gosh, reading this back to myself I look like I am crazy. :earsboy: oh well, thank for the advice...

Howdy, :wave2:
When you go to WDW be sure and check out Chef Mickey's at the Contempory resort. If you like buffets you'll like this place. It is dinner and sunday breakfast only, It is a character dinner, so the characters will come to your table for hugs and pictures during the course of your dinner. They have a section of kid friendly foods too. And for dessert you or your kids can decorate a cupcake with Chef Goofy. Make a reservation ahead of time for this place. It does get busy. The food is very good and the entertainment value is excellant, especially for kids.
If your into healthier foods, at Epcot they just opened a small food court in The Land building. We thought the food was very good for a theme park, but very spendy for the portion size. If you like sea food there is a restaurant behind the living seas at Epcot that is very good too. Of course when you go around the worlds they each have restaurants with foods from that country. My DH loves the mexican and german food. Next he wants to try Moroccan food. The head chef there use to be the head chef for the king of morocco, so it should be good. :goodvibes
I forgot to mention the late night buffet on the ship too. It's after the pirate party around 10 or 10:30 at night. That is a great spread of all types of foods and the desserts WOW!!! The decorations are great too. carved melons, fruits and ice carvings. That is well worth your time too.
You don't sound crazy to me! You sound like someone who wants to make the most of their cruise. Your not alone. Food is VERY important to the majority of cruisers. The food is a part of the tradition of cruising.
What a great tradition??? :flower:
They have updated a lot of the menus at the restaurants at WDW over the last 3 months, I'm sure you'll have some great meals. We are at WDW everyweekend, unless we are ill or on a cruise. So I'm fairly up on their foods. My DH is a diabetic so we have checked out all the food places very thoroughly over the last year. Of course we get a lot of company from out of state each year and so we keep up on the food at all the theme parks in the area for those people too. If you can think of any questions about WDW food or attractions just ask and I will try and answer it for you. One of my sons and his wife work for WDW so I could ask them if i don't know an answer for you.
Have a great weekend.
