December 17, 2006 4-Night Wonder Cruise

Great name. We'll have to meet in the bar and have one (or two). Maybe pick up a Cuban in Nassau first.

I have DD11 and we are doing the parks first too. We added a day so we arrive Wed., staying at POFQ. Maybe we can swap plans and have the girls meet before the cruise.

I know there are customs issues, but any chance Dis would let us bring our dogs on board? I have 2 goldens that would love CC.

Hello singlemalt,

Great to hear you're coming along for the ride too... :)

Finally sat down and made my reservations for the kids club and some excursions at Nassau. Also reserved my float... :rotfl2:

Have to make finally reservations now for a flight and should arrive that wednesday (dec. 13th) and staying at AKL. So if any of you are around, come visit. Heading to the Very Merry Christmas (12/14) too, so maybe if any are heading that way, we can share a cookie and some cocoa.

Hope to see and meet you all.

Hi all!

I am much happier today as my TA applied the final payment I made LAST week this morning and I was able to make my ressies. :)

We are having a late dinner on Monday night at Palo (8:30). I am hoping that we can roll out of there around 10:30 and go to the 80's dance night (or whatever theme it will be for us).
We are going to Brunch on Wednesday morning at 10:30am.
Kath- you might not want to go to Palo twice in one day! You know what they say about too much of a good thing!

We didn't book any excursions in Nassau or Atlantis. Being budget conscious and having read so much about what is available there, nothing seemed like a good deal. We may water taxi over to get some great pictures, drop a few quarters in a slot machine and call it good.
But-- I did reserve snorkle gear for all 4 of us at CC as well as a couple floats.
And- I couldn't talk anyone else in my family into going on the banana boat ride  ! Is anyone else going? I booked for 1:30. Thought it should be plenty warm by then (if it is going to be a warm day--fingers crossed) and the kids will hopefully be with their kid groups.

Anyone else going to US/IOA instead of WDW before the cruise?

Marcy

Great minds think alike! We're going to book an independent, non-excursion snorkel trip in Nassau but I must leave time to pick up some contraband Cuban cigars. I may bring my own libations though since I can't imagine how much a good scotch would cost on board, if one is available at all. :drinking1

I'm glad to hear all the others who have 11-12 yo DDs. Since my DD loves to make new friends I'm sure I'll be running into all of you! Now I need to hear about some 8 yo boys for my DS to play video games with and we'll be all set!

See you all on the ship!

Marcy - Glad to hear you got everything you wanted. I know what you mean about Palo twice in one day, but I hate to miss the other restaurants. We may still change later.

We booked the Nassau City Tour for Monday (well, just the 3 of us, DS15 will want to stay onboard). I love to do those in US cities. I hope this tour is as good.

Pumba's Dad - We'll be at AKL for three nights before the cruise, so maybe we'll see you there. We're going to MVMCP on December 14, also!

After the cruise, we'll be at WL for 2 nights. Then we're going home for Christmas. My kids did not like being at Disney for Christmas Day last year!

Singlemalt - I don't have a 8 year old boy, but DS15 is a real video game nut! Maybe, since your son is 8 going on 15 ;) , they'll get along.

Hey Malt,

My DS is 10 and into video games, so is my wife... They sit and play some star wars game together. I can't figure out which button does what.

I believe they have premium stuff on board, but then again, its probably cheaper to bring your own. 2 or 3 drinks might equal that bottle.

Kathy,

Hopefully we'll run into one another by the cookies and cocoa stand. Last year it was cold enough for real snow.

I will be at the VWL for 2 nights after the cruise also!! I will see you there!!

My DD 11 and Stina 10 (of Stinasmom fame) have started e-mailing so they have a friend when they get on board. I see that we have a few other girls in the 10 - 12 age group. Would they be interested in chatting before the cruise? If so, what's best, a group e-mail or starting another thread for kids on this cruise?

Last item. Just throwing this out as a meet and greet for the older set,
Wine tasting on the day at sea?
Anyone interested?

Hi everyone!

My family is taking this cruise as well! It will be our second Disney cruise and we are all very excited. Our group consists of my M/FIL, DH (Jack 32), Me (Ginia 30), my DD (Belle 4) and my DS (John Robert 3). So far the only thing I have booked is a couples massage for DH and I:) We are not really fond of Nassau so we will probably just have a ship day. Can't wait to get to know you all!

Ginia

Welcome to the cruise!! We are getting pretty excited about it at my house.

Okay, I made my final payment today!!!!!!!!!!! Yippeee!!! Do you think there will be any chance that I will be able to get a Palo Brunch at 75 days out?

I've collected the updates to our DIS group so far...

I M Grumpy (Jerry), DW, DD11(Samantha), DD4(Hanna)
Singlemalt, DW, DD12, DS8
Ginia (30), DH (Jack 32), DD4(Belle), DS3(John Robert), M/FIL

Anyone else want to ID themselves any further? No pressure. We are strangers....sort of, but not for long! Looking forward to meeting you all in just 10 weeks! :hourglass

It looks like we have Christina, Samantha, Sara, Kath's DD12, and Singlemalt's DD12 all around the same age (or at least will be in the same Oceaneer's Lab group. I know my DD (Christina) will have a WAY better time if she is comfortable with some friends in the club and around the ship. I am all for encouraging their interaction, prior to cruising by emailing like Christina and Samantha have a couple times, or physically introducing and putting them together in the club at the same time!

We all know how girls at this age can either be the outgoing, make-friends-anywhere type or just the opposite (or both depending on the situation). On our previous 7 night DCL cruise, Christina really didn't have that good of a time because of her initial experience in the club with some kids she thought were teasing her, and then she felt like she had no friends. This, of course, affected DH and I in that we didn't get all the "adult" time we were hoping for because she was constantly around or in the stateroom! I am running a preemptive play here to see that this doesn't happen again!
PM or email me if you want your DD to exchange some correspondence with Christina before cruising or let me know if we should make a point of introducing the girls on embarkation day!

Speaking of making friends... I would love to make sure that my DH has a great time too (OK, some of that will be up to ME and just ME  ) but I saw I M GRUMPY and Singlemalt making plans to share some "singlemalt" and maybe a Cuban (cigar, that is! :rolleyes1 ). I think Vijay would enjoy being a part of this! Scotch- you still out there? Seems like with a screen name like that, you might want be a party to this party! :thumbsup2
We both would like to join in a wine tasting adventure. We should coordinate that when we are all aboard too.
Whew! It's a lot of work to have so darn much fun! :woohoo:

I just wrote a very long "hola' to all of you who are also going to be on the Wonder, but it didn't get sent, so I'm going to quickly re-send a short one since it is late!
Hi!! I'm Deserie Milburn (pronounced like Yes-a-ree), I'm a high school teacher.
My husband's name is Troy, he's a contractor. We have two children, a daughter named Londyn 3 3/4years, and Logan will have just turned 1 year old on the cruise. We're from Sacramento, California.
I'm brand new to this posting thread thing, so I hope I do it right. It's going to take me days to read all the pages and threads to this site! Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you on the ship!

Looks like a great group! I would think the cruise would be full since it is so close to Christmas but the DCL website still lists rooms available...
Let's cross fingers for a rush at the end and we will all get upgrades!

Marcy

Thanks for putting this together. I have a DD13 and a DD7 that are part of our group of 14. I'd love to find another teen girl to introduce my DD to and maybe exchange email address so they can meet on the ship. She is the oldest of the kids in our group and all the others will be in the kid clubs. She is shy and not too thrilled about going to the teen stuff in her own.

Hey Singlemalt, In our group we have two boys ages 7 and 9 so yours should fit right in the middle.

Welcome Aboard!! 75 days to go!!

75 days and counting! :woohoo:
And AM I counting! I booked this cruise back in January of 2005!

Welcome Deserie! Have you cruised before?
Well, you can get your most detailed or crazy questions answered here. Ask away! I still keep in touch with 2 gals I met here several months before our first DCL cruise, and even visited one in her home town---of HONOLULU!!! :sunny:

It felt so great to be so prepared from all the advice, hints, and suggestions I gleaned from the DIS. Like bringing a power strip and an over the door shoe holder for misc small stuff.

Anyone else lurking out there that are sailing on this cruise? Join in! :grouphug:

Well, I am all paid up and tonight at 3:00 A.M. as a first time cruiser, I can book Palo. I will be asleep. I bet it is full by now with repeat cruisers. But, I will try in the morning. Wish me luck!
