December 13, 2008 Western Caribbean!! Let's get acquainted!

Oh now dont jinx me!! :scared1: I sent a box to the resort last WDW trip, so I decided to send the FE stuff via UPS. It better get there on time! lol

My box keeps growing & growing. Did you also pack other stuff in your box? I am thinking about including some beach items .

Help!! Does everyone dress up every night for dinner? I'm talking dresses, heels, etc, or do you go casual some nights, capri's, slacks. Nicer than day, just not real dressy.

What about the men? Suit/tux for formal or a dress shirt & tie? What are guys planning on wearing on casual nights? Any help is appreciated. With 6 of us traveling together, space is at a premium, especially in our rental van. Charlie

I packed my kids some bucket and pails, a duffel bag in case I run out of space in the luggage and a few other doo-dads. It wasn't very heavy and cost $14 to ship. If you are going to ship you need to do it today or tomorrow if you are using UPS ground though.

DH is wear Khakis and "hawaiian" shirts for non formal night and has a suit and tie for formal. I have some casual dresses and pantsuits I will be wearing and the girls all have dresses/sundresses.

I checked with UPS and if I have them pick-up tomorrow, they guarantee Mon. 8th. What size box/lbs did you ship? I have been looking for sand pails & toys for the girls, but no luck. Plan to pick some up in Florida.

Arrive Thurs. night, so we have Fri. to relax at hotel, pick up last minute items, things we forget to pack.

My DH loves to wear "hawaiian" shirts. He wears them to work every Fri. I am the one having the most problem with deciding what to wear. Charlie

Hello Dave! Glad to hear from you again! Lurking?:surfweb: :goodvibes

I had responded to Patetravel but maybe she didn't see it... or thought that since my DD11 can't go in the Stack, her DD13 would want to meet someone who could..
anyway... Since you have a DD11 who can't hang with the DD13s in the Stack, but can other places on the ship, maybe she'd want to meet my DD11 (online to start then at our meet on embarkation day---3pm at the PROM lounge)?
Still hoping to hook her up with someone ahead of time, but if all else fails, meeting on the first evening at planned activities at Ocean Quest or maybe the Lab will have to happen.

Feel free to PM me for email addresses!

Marcy

Hi Marcy:

I've lurked sometimes, but things just got so busy I haven't followed the board much. I have been getting my regular email updates of postings though :) We are really looking forward to the cruise!

My girls haven't shown any interest in meeting people online first--they'd rather just see how things "click" once on the ship. Hopefully it will work out okay for them. My brother and sister and their families are traveling with us, as is my mom, so I doubt we'll come to any of the board meets--just hangin' with family. However, my three oldest don't have cousins that match up age-wise so we're hoping they'll make some good friends for the week.

Thanks for the offer though! I'm sure our 11 yo DD will meet up at the kids activities! Good luck getting ready for the trip.

Dave

Hello we also will be on the December 13th cruise. My husband 39, myself 43,DD 13,DS 7,DD 6

Hi patetravel!
We will be having our first "in person" meet on the ship on embarkation day at 3:00pm at the Promenade Lounge. We can introduce kids at that time too!
Hope to see you there.

Hey Char--
we prefer late dining because there is more time to get ready, get back from excursions, get pool time, etc. The kids handle it well, if we feed them a couple chicken strips around 5pm or just leave them in the clubs.
You can see the BIG shows at a matinee time (usually) and that really frees up the evening.
As for Pirate night, we did see it the first time--we got out of dinner in time, but I actually thought the show was really LONG and wished I had missed the first 20 minutes or so. We kept wondering "WHEN are the fireworks!!??" On our second cruise, everyone was too tired to even go to the pirate night show, I watched the fireworks from our window.:3dglasses

I guess we put more emphasis on the daytime experiences, not on the actual dining.

I just spent 1/2 hour or so "checking in online." Took longer than I expected but it will make the checkin process at the port quicker. Yeah!! our cruise is right around the corner!

Marcy

Char- I got our buckets at Walgreens. They still had some back in Oct when I got ours. Our box wasnt that big size wise and weighed 18 pounds.

Welcome to those who have been lurking and any new folks, I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Andrea, hope you heal up quick.

I have spent the last couple of days running around picking up the last few clothes items we needed (dresses, socks, dress shoes, etc) It was a great time to shop with all the sales going on.

It is hard to believe that in just 12 days we will be on the Magic! I have finally gone into panic mode.

We prefer late seating while cruising because we are late eaters anyways. on our first cruise DS was 4 and he made it through dinner ok, but then again we are all night owls. We had no problem eating on time pirate night and still made it up for the show. Like Marcy I felt some parts of it were drug out and too long. The fireworks and food were great though.

for those going to WDW before the cruise, if you hit Magic Kingdom on the Wednesday or Thursday make sure you stop by Casey's and say hello to DD Tiffany! She will be the blonde with the big smile.

We will stop and say hi to her Michele.

I have to agree, shopping for little things has been nice with the sales. I actually completed my shopping for Christmas Black Friday even.

I do worry about us and early seating. I know the kids wouldnt make late seating, but DH has this 'disease' that if he eats, he must nap afterwards...ALWAYS! lol He hardly eats except for dinner, so the cruise should be interesting. You will probably see me and the girls wandering aimslessly after dinner sans Casey!

I am not panicking yet...I am just in denial. The suitcases are still in the basement.....last WDW trip I was already packed!

Believe it or not We haven't even begun Christmas shopping!! DH and I are so bad we always do the last minute shopping rush. Good thing we only buy for us! I can't get out on Black Friday, the crowds would drive me nuts.

yes, full blown panic mode over here too! they've moved up our close of escrow to december 23rd!! i'm just relieved that we'll be so distracted by the cruise we won't have a chance to stress about moving 3 days later.

the suitcases are still in the garage, i think we'll break them out this weekend. what's the rush?:rotfl2:

Hi Marcy, We originally were assigned late dining. TA called & said we now had early, My DD went on line and they still have late. Somehow they missed our link. DD want's us to wait & see if they get changed.

After talking to Disney, I guess it is easier to change from an early time to a late time. Early times are more in demand.

Not having cruised before, trying to ask what seems to work out for other families.

We had main seating on our last cruise and booked it again for this one. We didn't have much trouble getting back and ready for dinner, although I remember one night feeling rushed. I think we'd be just fine with late seating also. Either way we would have to be ready early for dinner or for the shows (they are one of the highlights of the cruise for us)so that really isn't a factor for us.

I went to Walgreens today, no summer items left. I arranged for a UPS pick-up for tomorrow. Package will be there by 8th. Weighed 17 lbs. Hey girl, maybe we sent the same FE stuff, I'm 1 lb lighter (no buckets), :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone for your dining comments. It's good to know there are people from our group in both seating times.

Planning to get the suitcases out on Sat. I am beginning to do my pre-pre-packing. I am putting items in a guest bedroom. I will wait until next week to pack, see what fits at that time.

Charlie

Well, the house is decorated, the tree is up and I am done shopping for everything. It is now time to start assembling & packing. I have to print my signs, find all the pirate gear and start collecting cruise clothes from closets & drawers.
I tried making a list but I keep getting distracted. Tomorrow EVERYONE will be gone-just me & the suitcases so I plan on getting ALOT done!

Oh yeah, I need to get everyone haircuts and a pedi for me...when am I going to find time for that????

Yikes, you have a bit more to be panicky about then us! 2 days before Christmas....

DH is on the road and won't be home until the Thursday before we leave for the cruise. It really only gives us a couple days to finish getting him what he needs and trying to throw in a bit of Christmas shopping too. That is all our choice though, you have a little different scenario than us.

Charlie, I hope you get the dining that you think will work best for you! I guess there are alot of little ones who can't do the late seating. When DS was 4 we just got him a snack to hold him over until dinner time, usually he wasn't with us though. (he spent 80% of his time in the Oceaneers Club). We had to make him eat dinner with us most of the time.

I had my house decorated and tree up 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. Only because I am the one who does it and had a ton of other stuff to get done.

DD and I are going next Monday for a mani and pedi then Tues. DS and I are going for haircuts.

DS and I was putting all the FE stuff in our everything extra suitcase(it has all the none clothing items) the other night and I was thinking "I sure am glad I'm not flying with this" it weighs a ton. :rotfl:

I'm not a very organized person and I think this is where the panic comes in...You would think I would learn to be more organized.

Sorry no buckets Charlie! I bet you can buy them all over though, esp in key west. We and DH are making a trip to the CVS there and if you want we could look for you. I have a feeling your FE stuff is better than mine, I was not very creative....:guilty:

I am sure with a group of our size we will be seeing each other in the dining rooms!

Andrea you are just soooo organized and with it. I bow to you :worship:

We have not put up our tree. DH isnt too happy, but I am thinking I would love for Carrie to see the trees at WDW so she can WOW since she is so young and doesnt remember them if kwim...

We did the haircuts last Weds, they butchered mine and Carries but Katies turned out really cute. The lady that did mine and Carries evidently doesnt understand that bangs mean at your eyebrows, not the top of your forehead!:headache: Thankfully our hair grows quickly.

Never done a pedi before ( my Clampettness showing!) but I am not bringing sandals anyway. Just my crocs and tennis shoes and dress shoes.

I too am in full panic mode although, I feel much better now that I packed my boys bag. :goodvibes One down three to go. Is anyone as tired of :laundy: as I am???
