Does anyone know the name of the sea sick meds they pass out at guest services?

I am a TA. Just started out, and never been on a cruise before. When I got the email with the excellent prices my husband and I agreed I couldn't pass it up, especially since it would help make me more knowledgeable about cruises.

Only my daughter and I are going on the cruise. She will be having her 11th birthday on the 14th. We are both so excited!

my birthday is the 15th!

There are several 11 year olds on the cruise...but your daughter will maybe have the choice of which club!

Bonine is the medication that is available free outside of the medical center; my guess is that's what GS has also (but I've never checked out what GS has specifically). It's available OTC in the US.

I have Meclizine, a whole bottle. You're welcome to that. It is way cheap at Costco, and it is the active ingredient in Bonine and Dramamine. There is like 100 tabs or more in a bottle.

Nobody has cruised this time of year? KCashner? Any egg nog aboard?

It would make DS's day. Maybe trip....:worship:

Thanks for the offer. DD wants to buy some to take before we get on the boat.

They didn't have it when I did my last cruise during the holiday season (but that was right at Thanksgiving too.) I don't think they have it on board, but you never know--my son would be thrilled if they did!

I'm looking so forward to the cruise, but so nervous this go around. Have had some serious medical issues in the last couple of months and walking is very difficult for me now (I have to walk with a cane--you'll know me because my cane has Disney princesses on it.)
I'm nervous because it's just me and DS, so no other adult to help me out on when needed. It's kind of funny thinking about it (well, not really, but someone has to make light of it) with the rocking of the ship, and my tendency to wobble/fall, this should be an interesting trip walking on the ship. Heck--I can barely walk straight on dry land right now LOL.

Have no plans for anything, other than to relax and enjoy some time with my son. He loves the kids clubs so much that I don't see him much usually on the ship, but going to try to get in as much mom/son time as possible.

We fly out Saturday morning into Orlando, then over to the ship.
I can't wait (if I can ever get everything packed and ready here!!)

Wow! I issue a challenge last night to get us to 2000 posts, and you guys respond with 4 pages of new threads! Way to go!

Welcome to all the new folks joining us! Please don't tell us how cheaply you're cruising on those TA rates! Welcome, SueEllen! It'll be nice to meet you. If I remember right (and you're the same SueEllen) I think you gave me our very first DCL quote back in early 2005.

Reminder to all the new folks, we're meeting in the Promenade Lounge at 3pm on Saturday to say hi. You can also get bracelets from Scooby at that time, but you probably need to let her know how many of the big and small sizes that you need.

This will be our 3rd (of 3) cruises in early December though this one is a week later than our cruise last year. I don't recall eggnog anywhere on the ship. But then again, I wasn't really near any place that would have served it. Always cruised with a 2yr old thus far, so we were in bed early. I heard there were some Adult clubs on the ship, but other than playing bingo, meeting for excursions, or attending the welcome aboard concierge reception, I have yet to see on actually used as a night club.

Well, I procrastinated tonight and did absolutely nothing for the cruise. :surfweb: Bleh, I hate packing. I guess I better start tomorrow. LOL Bah, i should have sorted my pins tonight. I'm so unorganized for this trip. :(

I got a little worried when you guys started talking about seasick meds. This being my first cruise, I'm a little concerned about seasickness. Most people tell me the ship is so big, you won't feel anything. I'm not usually prone to it on a boat (well, once when the whale watching boat really started to pitch...I did feel a wee bit queasy)...

Sue Ellen

I'll be looking out for the princess cane...and if you're wobbly we'll lend you a shoulder to lean on! Perhaps the sea air will be good therapy. And your positive attitude will help you overcome the tough parts of the cruise.

I can relate to just wanting to enjoy your child.

I think one of the things I am most looking forward to is alone time with my kids. So much of my life is filled with taking care of them and helping them get from activity to activity. With 3 kids things get hectic sometimes. It's hard for me to relax with my kids when there is ALWAYS something that needs to be done. Looking forward to time to enjoy each kid individually -- and having some family time too. Disney can take care of the cooking and cleaning up the dishes...and I won't even complain about the :laundy:.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to the egg nog question for sure. I've never seen any, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I really try to only post things I have experienced personally--that way, if I'm wrong, at least I know it's something that has changed.

Sue Ellen--have you thought about a wheelchair or motorized scooter on the ship? Obviously, I know nothing of your situation. In September, I cruised with a friend who walks at home with braces and a cane or crutches. However, for a mall or other distances, she uses a wheelchair. I TOLD her (and enlisted her college age daughter to reinforce it) that she would use the wheelchair on the ship. Her comment after the fact was that if she started at the forward part of the ship before breakfast, she might make it to the dining room by dinner. As you pointed out, in addition to speed, I was seriously concerned about her balance and falling with the motion of the ship.

If you think it would be useful, you can rent a scooter from Brevard County Medical. They will deliver it to the ship and pick it up after the cruise. Your room host will take it to his cubby area and charge it each night for you if you don't use it in your cabin.

I get horribly sea sick on small boats (thinking a 26 foot cabin cruiser). NO PROBLEM at all on DCL. The ship has great stabilizers. Yes, I've been on board during some storms and pretty rough seas. It doesn't happen to me. Tell yourself that you'll be fine, and odds are that you will. If you plan to do drugs, do start them 24 hours in advance. Works much better that starting them after you're not feeling well.

And...for anyone who cares, Brent is definitely back from vacation and will be our CD (Christiaan told me this in September, but things can change. And David is supposedly on the ship. If he is, DO NOT miss pub night (Diversions, 11 pm on the last night...right after "till we meet again."

It is so nice as the snow is coming down and the rest of the week is supposed to be worse (colder, stormy) to be thinking "One week from now I will be....."

this is really good news that Brent is back! i've heard so many awsome things about Brent over the years.

Also, great suggestion about the wheelchair...Sue Ellen even if you do not use it, it might reassure you to know that it was available.

:3dglasses DH is looking forward to Toy Story 1 and 2 with 3 kids!

Not long now!

I want to scream and howl in frustration!!! I spent $30 and several hours Saturday night prepping materials for our cub scout den to make cards for soldiers overseas, TONIGHT. I have turned this house upside down and inside out looking for the bag of completed materials, and it is GONE. I have even checked the attic and our suitcases, thinking maybe it got mixed in with the packing stuff. How can this happen?!? The meeting is just a few hours away, and I have to start over, at my own expense! Where is the bag?!? Sorry, needed to vent, rather than cry. Saturday can't come soon enough.

Ok, after the vent, I cooled off and thought harder. In a moment of "organization", I transferred the supplies to a smaller bag and tucked them on the counter. Can't get that hour of searching back, but at least the supplies are recovered! :cheer2:

I'm sooo glad. I was going to try and cheer you on after your last post, but anything I started to type sounded so trite.

I'm glad you're back on track!

Thanks, Scooby! I'm quite relieved. Those moments of "inspirational organization" always end up costing me, big time! :rotfl2:

Me too! And then I have to chuckle and say, "I've outsmarted myself again!" or "I couldn't find it because I'm soooo organized" :scared1:
