December 12 - 19, 2009 Western Magic

We're going down 2 days early (mainly to make sure we're in Orlando in time to get on the ship in case there are weather problems up here). My travel agent booked us at Port Orleans Riverside. I was hoping for a Deluxe but I can't afford the Deluxe...not even for 2 nights. It's nuts. And we're 1 night short to qualify for free dining. Ick. I should have planned this better.

Shore excursions for us are going to be non-water sports for sure. We'll take the sedate ones. :D

I have a question though...how formal is the formal? I don't really do formal anything... so I don't know what I need to bring...or in this case.. buy for the trip!

We brought ball gowns for myself and two daughters and a tuxedo for DH last cruise but lots of people just wore cruse casual to supper that night. With the new airline luggage rule I suspect a lot of people who fly in may skip it. We wont skip it though my family loves it. Great photo opportunity. Do what works to make your cruise good for you.

We don't really do formal either. Non-formal nights my boys will wear khaki type pants and a polo, semi-formal - same khaki pants and a button down shirt, formal - they'll add a tie. For the adults, dh pretty much wears the same type of wear as the boys, dd and I will wear a nicer church type dress. On less semi-formal nights, we'll wear a skirt and regular nights, we'll wear dress pants and a blouse.

Another group request from: disneywonder2007 Anyone know this one?

I requested reply to get their Dis' name, but haven't received a reply back yet.

I'm getting excited! We're finally getting closer.

BTW....who is going to do Palo this trip? I think we are finally going to take the plunge and do brunch. Can you book a table for 6 or 7? I know when I tried during a past cruise the early bookings only allowed you 2 or 4?

Has anyone went with a group?

Is anyone shipping anything to the ship? I haven't seen the value in this to this point, but now I'm second guessing FE gifts for all 6 cabins.

What up y'all? Greetings from weird weather L.A. We will be onboard for our second cruise 12/12-12/19...Looking forward to it again. This time I get my b-day onboard (12/16) cool no?

OK, time to check in here again. I just skimmed thru the last few pages. DD went to college on Thursday, and your counters tell me there are 114 days till we cruise (wonder if that's from today or from when they posted....) It seems short when you think about it in days.

One correction in stuff I read--concierge is cat 1,2,and 3.

We are DD 18 and Mom, currently in a cat 12 gty. That may change (I upgraded DD to a balcony on one sailing and now she's hooked!)

We will be flying in the day before...I'll have to re-check our flight times, but will probably get a Priceline hotel in the MCO area (that's my usual when we come in too late to do anything). Her last day of finals is Dec. 10, we'll fly down on the 11th, and sail on the 12th. On our last cruise we were bumped from our flight, so these are "free" flights! YEAH!

Guess that's all I know. I'd love to do Stingray City. We did the Captain Marvin's island tour on our last western. However, DD doesn't like to snorkel.

If anyone cares, all the beaches on Grand Cayman are free. The beach runs from the tender area for many miles (thus the name "Seven Mile Beach.") It's supposed to be nicer the farther you get from the tender area. There are signs along the walkway indicating public access to the beach. Cabs are plentiful.

Yes, we'll do the FE. I'll update you on our cabin number when I know it. Do we have a coordinator?

Hello there! Its nice to see that we have another 18 year old going! My oldest daughter is 19 and there are several other 18-19 year olds going too!
(I also have a 12 year old girl going)
If you PM me your email address I will send you an invitation to our off site website where one of our members is generously keeping track of tech FE exchange information.
Anyone not a member there who PMs me their email can join too.

See ya real soon. :smickey::smickey::smickey::smickey::smickey::smickey::smickey::earsboy::earsboy::earsboy::earsboy::earsboy:

????? Disneyfan? Just wondering, would it be just as easy to do it here on the thread? I'd like to know how many we have so far and if I'm on the list.

Hi all,

I haven't been on in a while. It seems that I get so busy in the summer.

It is nice to see that everyone is getting excited. I see we lost a few to other dates.

We have decided to come in a few days early and take advantage of the free dining and MVMCP.

As far as excursions, hubby and I were thinking of renting scooters in Key West. According to the website is says that it only cost $35.00 for 5 hours of use. I will have to do more research to confirm this.

Grand Cayman we are thinking about doing the stingray thing. I will tell you last cruise we did the reef and shipwreck snorkel. It was right of the boat. We could have just walked over to the beach area and swam out. This time we are thinking about doing the stingray city.

Mexico - still researching

Castaway - my do nothing but lay in a hammock and relax day.

I'm getting excited. I think I might book Palo for brunch. Never been!

Anyone picked out your excursions?

Marcy

Marcy,

On GC, can you tell us where to find the shipwreck? We are doing stingray city with Captain Marvin's, but I think we're going to wind up with some time later.

That birthday should make the cruise more special, how old? DD turns 20 on the 20th.

Sure. It is so close to where we dock. I can point it out to you. I might not be exact but I will definitely be close. If I remember right it is directly out from a particular building. I just hope the building still looks the same.

I would also love to know where we are with FEs. Do we have a planned cut off date after which no new ones will be added? I'd like to have all of mine done and ready to go ahead of schedule since just the very act of packing and getting seven people to the boat will be a job in and of itself.

I just posted an updated list. I think we should cut off around Thanksgiving so we can have everything prepared. Doesn't look like a big group yet so let me think what about the cut off date. I have gone on the FAQ thread and there is a like to a July 7 night western if you are interested in what night the shows are. It gives us something to plan from . I know we are going to book Palo as soon as our 90 day mark arrives.

Actually thinking about some spa time this trip. Hummmm

Thanks for posting the list!
Kate is 19 though. I hope more people participate or I am gonna have to leave bigger bags of loot. LOL
I am looking forward to Palo too. My oldest daughter gets to go this year.
