December 10, 2006 - 12/10/06 Wonder

Well, we got our cruise docs today ... I don't mean to sound like a downer, but can I just say that I am not in the least bit impressed? Actually, I am rather disappointed. Honestly, when we have cruised other lines, getting the cruise docs was like opening a present. They would come in beautiful leather folders; the tickets were in a nice booklet and didn't look like some cheap concert tickets, and the luggage tags were truly luggage tags that you saved and not some cheap stickers. It sounds dumb, perhaps, but whenever we've received our docs for our other cruises, it really set the tone and got us excited! Instead, I feel like I've received some cheap envelope that is going to get me aboard a ridiculously expensive cruise? It just doesn't add up. I suppose this is dumb and doesn't mean anything to anyone else, but, for Disney, I sure expected more. Even Mike, who could not really care less, called me at work when the docs came and said, "I think these are supposed to be our cruise docs." I asked what they were like, and he said "chintzy." I never thought I'd agree with him! Ugh, already I can't help comparing Disney to our other cruiseline, and now my first impression is not a good one. I really need to snap out of it!

No docs here yet! If I hadn't seen the reservation on the Disney website, I'd be worrying.

Andrea - Thank you so much for the weather update. I hope we have good weather....No all day rains.

Shawn - Ditto everything that Andrea said. He has a plan for all of us!!!

Monica - We are going Saturday at 5:00 I think. I dont have my daily planner if front of me. I know its early because we have an illuminations cruise at 8:00 OR 8:30. Its all planned in a row. I am excited about Steven Curtis Chapman. I am excited about it all.

Kristen - Are you feeling better? Did you get all your stuff finished? I know you have been busy but next week you can kick back and relax! I hope everything is going ok at your work since the incident.

Neal - I am keeping my fingers crossed.

 :cool1: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :woohoo: :dance3: :bounce: :yay: :dancer: :rockband: party: :jumping1: :jumping2: :jumping3: :simba: :stitch: :sulley: :tigger: :ccat: :figment: :mickeyjum :donald:

Guess what I got today? MY DOCS. I went and picked them up today and suddenly nothing matters anymore. I am letting Christie decorate my tree while I pack. I usually let them help and move their ornaments while they arent looking. I get accused of being too picky but this year she has it all to herself and so far is doing a good job. Everyone say a prayer that I can fit everything into 8 pcs of luggage.

Rina - I have Howards birthday celebration at school next Tuesday at noon. We are taking breadsticks since they have ruled out all sugar. Then their vacation begins because you leave half day on your birthday!!!!! (His birthday is really dec 27 but since we are out of school they assign you a different day and it just so happens to be the day before we leave!) I hope Alexis birthday goes well for you.

Still no docs for us :-( . We also will not be getting our Magical Express luggage tags, double :-( :-(. , since Disney apparently messed up and didn't have our flight information, they didn't send the tags.

I am going to check in with the Poly tomorrow. Going to put a request in to have either Samoa or Tahiti - Samoa close to the lobby, Tahiti close to beach and the Ticket and Transportation Center. I will be so happy when I don't have to make any more decisions!

Is anyone going to bring their own adult-bottles on the ship? I am thinking about picking up a bottle of Absolute Orange - I drink it mixed with pineapple juice! That is tropical, right;) . I ordered a gift basket from Shirley for my parents as a thank you. I bottle of Merlot for my dad and a box of Godiva's for my mom. I hope they like it!

I am thisclose to being done with school. I have about 12 small discussion left, but no papers. I actually got both my finals turned in a week early:banana: . Of course, I have not even started packing and I haven't glued the stuff for the doors to the foam or the magnets. That is the Sunday plan!

Thanks for the weather update. I have been watching it myself. It is 8 degrees here tonight!! I cracked up yesterday - I was looking at the WDW weather, and it said 'chance of freezing drizzle' and I was like, "What the heck???". Only I didn't use those terms, haha.
I looked again and I had our departing weather out of Omaha, lol!

Send me some pixie dust for my trip docs tomorrow! Kristen

I understand where you are coming from. I am super excited to get them but this is DISNEY!! Fireworks should come out when you open them!! Well, not really, but hey, it would be neat! :rotfl: When I saw the luggage tags, I was like, huh???? They look like the tags you get at the airport when you check your luggage.

I still like my fireworks idea! They could put a disclaimer on the package about burnt eyebrows and such, if you are too close when opening your cruise documents. :rotfl2:

Okay, maybe I don't want my docs after all:rotfl2: .

I vote for fireworks too. Or maybe confetti and a microchip that activates and plays the Mickey Mouse March or something.

Kristen- I'm proud of you for getting your work done early. I probably would have just given up and took a miserable grade rather than muddle through and get it done (and early to boot!)

I'm planning a stop at Sam's Club between WDW and the port for water and adult drinks. I love the Cuervo Gold pre-mixed margaritas that they sell at Sams. Your orange & pinapple concotion sounds good too. Maybe I'll have to try a bottle of it! (or maybe we can broker a deal to share!)

Shari-Glad things are back in the upswing. Our poor lonely tree is still undecorated. I gave Dh the OK to decorate tonight without me (which normally would have been grounds for divorce)-maybe they will get it done.

Monica you amaze me! I am so far from being done-I haven't even started the magnets.

How creative are you all getting with the magnets? I'm worried that what I have planned is not going to be good enough..Anyone willing to share what they are doing

Yesterday I finally e-mailed the TA and asked if I should be expecting my DME luggage tags before Sunday (HELLO???). Please sit down if you are standing because her response made me want to pass out...
She replied, "DME? I don't have you scheduled for that service."
:furious:AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!:badpc:

So after I finished freaking out and I figured out that I DON'T have to go get my luggage and put it on the bus myself, I had her book us on DME. I made my own luggage tags that will at least alert the DME folks that we are part of the plan. Joe and I will scurry to the DME desk and give them our bag claim tickets and then get on the bus. Initially the TA said that the DME people would only take two bags per person but I have found out that they will take whatever your airline will transport (Southwest allows three).

As far as my cruise docs (and luggage tags) it appears they were sent to her boss who's name is also Nanc(i). :sad2: I am going to ask her to forward the tags, at least, to AKL because there is no way I am going to spend time at the port filling out bag tags. No No No No.

Beyond that drama, things are going pretty well. I am ordering our groceries for AKL from Garden Grocer this morning. Today is our last day at the office - tomorrow will begin at 6am and probably scream all the way to midnight. Send us the good energy vibes because the day before we leave is always really, really busy. If anyone is going to Petsmart today, please pick up two bags of dog food for me! :dogdance:

I've been so busy checking the weather for our destination that I have neglected my home town.

Well, it's a beautiful day here in Chicago, we are getting 7 to 12 inches of snow before noon. Both American and United have cancelled all of their flights today.

I take the "El" to work and the 1.5 block walk from my house to the station was delightful, slogging through the snow, the 5 block walk to my office was even better through the slush.

So, I'm starting to pay more attention to what the weather is supposed to be the day we leave, on the 9th. So far the prediction is clear and sunny and not too cold, just in the 30's.

I will keep my fingers crossed. Precisely why we are leaving the day before the cruise.

I am so glad we are not flying out today

Thanks for "getting" me!

Still no docs.

Called Travel agent who called Disney and found out that they were delivered to them yesterday. Mine will go out on Monday (if they find them).

That bites, Neal. We are in the same boat. Our TA hasn't seen them yet. And I think I already said that either he or Disney messed up our Magical Express, so I don't get any ME tags. So now I think I have to go and get all of my luggage ourselves and take it to the bus. UGHHHHH......

Luckily, you don't leave until next Saturday, if I remember, right? Hopefully you will get them in time!

It is 9:00 here and we just got home to NO HEAT!!!!! It is only 30 degrees which sounds like a heat wave compared to yalls weather. I am typing with one finger (while my wonderful husband tries to figure out whats going on) all bundled up under the covers. We had new HVAC put in last year. We may be at a hotel soon. I am freeeeeeeeezing!

pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: I sure hope that helps Kristen and Neal with docs, Nanc with tags and dog food, Ian and Shawn with some good weather and Andrea with door decor (is that right?) Rina - I know you needed some but cant remember why, lets say for the party.

We dont drink. Alot of our friends do but both of us had one parent who was an alcoholic and dont want to take any chances. Alot of heartaches growing up. We are bringing our muscadine juice to celebrate though. I am still not packed and didnt get anything done but at that point where, who cares? We have clothes and underclothes and will be clean with our toiletries past that everything will work out.

I bought magnets. Memphis related of course. Not creative enough to make them. It sounds like some people made theirs which will be cool and I cant wait to see them.

We have never had cable or anything like it and are picking up the speed channel tonight. Howard is going nuts. He informed us that if we didnt get the ps3 by Christmas (shhhhhh! he doesnt know we picked it up) that he will take a 69 camaro tubbed out with some hot motor I think a 502. His Daddy has taught him way to much. He is alot higher maintainence than Christie!!!!

I dont know if I told yall lately but......I cant wait to meet yall and I am so excited! We only have four days and wake up to go to WDW! :woohoo:

Ian,
Hope you are surviving the CHI weather! Hey, better now than next week at this time :0(

Shari - I am also buying Nebraska magnets - making the other door designs has taxed whatever creativity I had in me!

Nanc - I just read on another post that even if we don't have our DME tags, we only have to give the Welcome Center our claim tickets and they will take care of it. It is not as easy as if we had the luggage tags, but easier than lugging luggage for 9 through the airport with 5 kids! I hope the line at the Welcome Center is not too long at 9:00 at night....

Shawn - did you get your packet yet?

Everyone, please post the day of or before you leave so we can make sure to wish you a safe trip.
