Hi!! So,a friend an I are spending a couple of days down at Disney Dec 14-17th this year, and I have just been wondering if anyone has been down around that time, and could compare it to Canada (spec, more AB area)weather.

I'll obviously be keeping an eye on weather and what the temps are down there, but when it's 14 there, it may feel like 25, where as 14 here in Sept feels very very cold.

If you've gone, have you worn pants? Capris? Shorts? Need a sweater at night?!

TIA

It is anyone's guess, but I would say no to shorts. Friends of mine were there at the same time as you are going (but last Year) and they had to wear their winter coats as it was just a bit above freezing...

I would pack pants and then layer options for the top like shirts and sweaters just to be safe. :goodvibes

we have been at the start of January, I wore capris, kids and DH wore shorts. During the day it was nice spring like weather, but u needed pants and a sweater at night. Without the sun you chilled, just like in Calgary during a great chinook! Enjoy your trip!

Sorry for hi jacking your thread,,

but what about first two weeks in Feb, what is the weather like then I have never been in the winter months before

Normal daytime high for Dec. is 22 celius. We will be there again this year from Dec. 14th-28th for the 3rd time in 4 years. Last year was a bad year for weather with most days well below normal temps. But even then we had one day that went up to 30 and a few days in the low 20's. In Dec. 2008 it was near record setting temps are whole trip. We had highs of 27-33 the whole time except for one day.

But the weather is very unpredictable. We've seen everything from -4 to 35 at that time of year.

We're from Alberta as well and we were there last year Dec 14-26 and had a whole mix of weather. It started in the high teens, low twenties but around the 16th it got quite chilly. As soon as the sun went down it was time for coats and mitts for the kids. And by coats, I mean downfield coats that we had to buy there. Everyone said it was unseasonably low, but it wasn't unheard of either.

Be VERY wary of taking daily highs as the cue as to how to dress as temperatures can drop 10-15 degrees soon after the sun goes down.

Unfortunately, Dec-Jan weather can be very unpredictable.

We cruised in Dec 2009 and Dec 2010. Both times Orlando was not warm enough for total enjoyment. (Our one day at MK pre-cruise in 09 was rain, rain rain!) It is typically not shorts and T's weather. Hoping it's better in 3 weeks!

All of the above. You never know with Florida weather in the winter. I usually check accuweather.com a few days before I go as it gives me a better idea on what to pack.

It actually is typically shorts weather. 2009 and 2010 were untypically colder. Like I said 2008 was in the 80's the whole time we were there.

Last year we were there the first week of Dec and wore shorts and swam. It was mid 70s. 2 years ago we needed scarves and hats at night. It can be all over the place even from day to day. You sort of need a little bit of everything.

We typically go in Jan, and winter in Florida as mentioned is unpredictable. We've swam in Jan, and froze in Jan. So I pack 1 or 2 pr of bermuda shorts, 2 or 3 prs capris, and 2 pr jeans! I take a combination of short & long sleeve Tees, & warm hoodie. If it's cold, I can layer a short & long sleeve Tee, and hoodie.

Last Jan it was cold the first 3 or 4 days, esp early morning & evening. Day time was 60's F. Then the last few days it warmed up to mid - upper 70's F and we swam mid day.

So, pack a little for warm & cold  And bring the bathing suit, you never can tell! The hot tubs are nice too ;)

So we will need some pretty large suitcases!! Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice!

Since we have to pay for suitcases....I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some "normal" Florida weather over the New Years....Doesn't need to be hot...but my winter coats are staying in the truck in Portland! (as are the boots and mitts) Seriously....unless it is below zero (Canadian zero...I don't understand the Yankee way of telling temps)...I don't need mittens. I'm from the Maritimes...It had better be warmer in WDW than in NB!!
