Dec 7th, 1941... Day of Infamy....

Saw a couple of men who were there that day on tv this morning. Very moving.

My Grandparents were there. My Grandmother has told me stories that are chilling about that day. She always harbored a huge resentment for all things Japanese.

I think the same on the D-Day anniversary. We are approaching the time when there will be no living veterans of WW2, at least none well enough to travel to the memorials, so it is great to see them and thank them when we can.

I'm glad they got the memorial built while there are still surviving veterans.

My ds(16) had an extra credit assignment in his history class to visit and bring in pictures of any local WWII memorial.

I thought it was a great assignment, since F-I-L was only 18 when he was in the war. The memorial we visited listed all the town's members who were in the war. (Definitely something for a 16 yr old to think about when he saw his grandpa's and great uncle's names carved on it.)

I'm very glad we took our kids to see the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor when we visited Hawaii last summer.

It was very moving and made quite an impression on 2 teens that are not easily impressed.

Bumping this thread in the hope that others will pause and remember.

Some months back I was walking in the store and there were two strangers talking about their war experiences and I joined them. We represented WWII, Korea and Vietnam wars.
