Dec 5, 2009 -- now traveling to Tortola

I understand the dress for formal and semi formal night dinners, but what does everyone usually wear to dinner the rest of the nights. Are Capris acceptable for women? We were thinking casusal slacks for men? I know I am wayyyyyyyyy early in planning this, but I want to make sure we have the right clothes packed and not be under or over dressed.

If you are "wayyyyyyy early" what the heck am I (we are about half packed).
Nicer capris with a cute top are perfectly appropriate. I tend to wear sunderesses myself--but I love sundresses. The dining rooms are often very chilly so bring a cardigan or jacket of some sort along.
Slacks and a golf shirt or button down shirt are fine for the men. Even a Hawaiin shirt in Parrot Cay. Lumiere's is a bit more formal so we always try to wear the slightly nicer things there (but you do not have to).

You will see everything from jeans and t-shirts to shirts and ties pretty much every night.

Well, looks like we'll end up meeting on the ship then. DW will feel like there is too much to do on a Saturday AM than to go all the way to DTD, just to go back to catch the bus to the port. We'll just be eating at the resort for that morning. But thanks for that invitation Carmie!

Oh, if you have to rely on Disney transportation, I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to head to DTD before leaving for the cruise. You could spend close to an hour round-trip waiting on buses if you just miss the prior buses. We're renting from Budget and their office is in the DTD resort area. They'll pick us up from Pop, take us back to the rental agency to complete the transaction and then we'll be just a couple of minutes from DTD.

Still no cruise documents like Hadley but we did get our Magical Express Tags today. I still feel like I have so much to do and really don't know when I should start packing. So much of our cruise casual wear we will be wearing between now and the time we leave. I guess I'll just be waiting until the last minute to pack up a good part of our things.

We haven't received our cruise documents either, but our luggage tags for our stay at CBR arrived last week via UPS. It's a start. Just have to NOT FORGET THEM.

Kids and I are doing the document dance!!!! Fed Ex just delivered them. I am stunned-we have never gotten them this early. I figured moving overseas would delay them--not expidite them

Scothen I added your dining time to the roll call Thanks. That is al lthe info I NEED about you for that--but the point of the thread is so we can get to know one another, so please post a little something about yourself (ALL of you knew people--not just Scot) so we can all learn a bit about you. I'll start by telling all you new people a bit about me (in case you do not want to go abck and read through the entire thread):
I'm Hadley. My husband David and kids (Marika 12 and Rio 10) and I moved to Germany from New Hampshire in February. It has been a good experience and overall we love our new home. However, some days (and weeks) are rough--including right now when I feel like I may not last 5 more weeks until flying to Florida. I am a former English teacher and small town librarian (BTW I actually CAN spell--I just cannot type!). Here in Germany I do not have a visa which allows me to work but that's okay becuase it is pretty much a full time job trying to learn German and navigate through all the things which we take for granted when we are raised doing them (like getting OT services for Rio--totally different way of handling that here, or paying bills; they only read the meters once a year, etc.). David is an in house consultant on rubber and plastic engineering and manufacuturing. He has been with the same company for 7 years. They are headquartered here in Germany--thus the move. He travels A TON for work (nearly every week). He is the best father and husband anyoen could ask for.
Marika--she is a great girl. She'ss be a teenager this December but isn't boy crazy yet She has a black belt in karate and LOVES to read (goes through about 5-10 novels a week).
Rio is equally great. He'll be 11 in December. He is a dancer (tap, jazz, ballet) and LOVES to do commnity theatre.
So, how 'bout you? I'd love to hear from all of you new people



Try not to be overwhelmed. Just jump right on in. I think everyone in this group is nice (maybe Barry "despises" me)--okay I totally admit to having discovered someone I want to avoid on my other cruise--but not on this one

CHRISTMAS By this sailing the termianl, ship and Castaway Cay should all be decorated It is soooo pretty. This will be our third time sailing during the holiday period and I just love it. You will also have many photo ops with the characters in holiday attire In the past they have offered some special holiday activities as well. I specifically remember a family activity in 2006 where we got to make our own gingerbread houses (with the warning that customs/immigration would not let us bring them off the ship at the end of the voyage). We took it to dinner as a centerpiece a few times (it was jsut our family--all 12 who were on that cruise, at our table so we were not bothering anyone else I promise).

I live in downtown Chicago. I am in the fun-filled occupation of an accountant. In the mid-eighties I was stationed in Zirndorf, Germany, while serving in the U.S. Army.

I am currently single, and I recently joined Disney Vacation Club.

I am looking forward to seeing the Christmas decorations at WDW and on DCL.

Favorite restaraunts: Mine is Lumieres, Jerry and Jessica love Animator's Palate. Favorite foods there: I like most of the soups and salads and the banana bread at Parrot Cay, Jessica loves the chicken fingers and steak, Jerry really enjoys beef!

For room service: Jessica and I both vote for Mickey bars, and the cookie plate was good too. Jerry ordered a tuna sandwich he said was good!

Can't wait! Only 40 more days!!!

We too are going to the World prior to our cruise. We'll be staying at BLT Dec. 1-5 and are planning the following parks during that time:
Dec. 2: MK
Dec. 3: MVMCP
Dec. 4: HS
Dec. 5: Breakfast at Ohana's before we head to the port

My mom wants to get DD6 a salon treatment for the formal night. (and also cuts for herself and DW) I can't find a spot on the cruise where these can be booked.

Anybody know how to do it? Or is it too late to book?

Absolutely Capris are acceptable.. one of the things we love about the Disney cruise is it is vacation! We have seen people come into formal night in completely casual resort wear and have the same enjoyable experience those in formal wear are having... my boys get very annoyed at me because I like them to wear a shirt with a collar to dinner ... they always point out the numerous people without a collar... be comfortable and plan to enjoy the vacation of a lifetime!!

We are going to the Candlelight Processional in Epcot 12/12 (staying at CBR) and will be spending the day at MK on Sun. before we have to leave for the airport.

We are going to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party the day after the ship gets in. Sun 12-13-09. Any one else planning to go from the ship to WDW?

Christmas (Hanukah etc.) isn't a date on a calander, it's a feeling of magic in your heart. Any day is a good day for that.

I like Christmas on the ship because I can enjoy all the festivity without having to do any decorating or baking. And I still get home in time to do a little of that before the 25th.

In my experience there are more men in suits than in tux, however it varies so much it really comes down to what works for you,,, Our first cruise with Disney we packed so many formal clothes we felt overdressed at most dinners..what I have learned is people come completely relaxed to dressed to the nines and the Disney team gives you the same great experience!! Pack what you are most comfortable with and enjoy your vacation!

Formal night is always booked early... but don't let that stop you... I had my first facial on Disney and could not have been happier! Can't wait to have my next one.. a little pricey but well worth it for the experience! Other than formal night, you can usually book a convenient time that fits your schedule

Glad to hear this. We were going to buy DH a tux but instead opted to buy him a new black suit. We figured he'd get more utility out of suit than a tux. He had other suits he could have worn but he at least wanted to wear black if he wasn't wearing a tux. Now I'm hoping I won't be overdressed. I found a beautiful garnet colored floor length gown on clearance last year after the holidays. I very seldom get a chance to really dress up so I will wear that dress!

We have Palo on semi-formal night and I plan to wear a knee-length semi-formal dress. DH will wear a suit on that night. On other nights, I plan to wear skirts/dresses/slacks and DH will wear slacks with a shirt/tie or polo depending on the restaurant. The kids will be wearing similar clothes as us.

We have Palo on semi-formal night and I plan to wear a knee-length semi-formal dress. DH will wear a suit on that night.

We're in Palo at 8:30PM that Thursday night. We'll join the kids and my mom for a salad/soup before Palo so we can be part of the fun with the kids. The older pair love to dress up special!

Afterwards, we'll throw dinner rolls at each other in Palo!

The shampoo, conditioner and lotion is from H20. We really like it but I have read that some cruisers that find the smells too strong.

When they first started using H20 products, they used to give the products each day or even twice a day. Now they only seem to replace them if you are out of them, ask for them or they are out of sight. I have read on other threads that some cruisers had called guest services to ask for more and were told to buy them in the gift shops. I have not had that experience myself. I know they also have shampoo/conditioner in dispensers in the spa showers.

Just my two cents but I have never had guest services tell me anything but yes we will take care of that right away...H2O products are new to me but I would not pack anything that is not essential!!

We have late dining and a late Palo (9PM I think) so we'll just skip the dining room all together that night. DD won't be upset though. She hates dressing up and dreads wearing dresses and slacks on the cruise.
