Dec. 2, 2007-4 night Wonder and MouseFest Cruise

Tom,

Yes, I believe so, 3.5 was the lowest I could go down to after doing some test shots this evening. I was out trying the tripod and some night shots in appeture mode with no flash to see it would go.

You mean, I could get a lens with a motor for my D40x, only not the 50mm lens, that would have a smaller f stop?

Cause I want to get shots of the fireworks and parades/shows. That might be the only chance I'll have to pull some pics off of the Dwarfs.......during the parade. I'm going to MVMCP on the 29th and from what I have been told, the Dwarfs can only be seen in the parade. :(

Joy, here are a few Nikon lenses in various focal length I believe will fit the D40 body and provide good low light shots.

Sigma also makes good lenses for a little less money. I will have to check and see if they come in a Nikon mount.

For those of you who are still booked at All Stars, I just want to say "don't worry too much": we have been there twice during Pop Warners and have never had a major problem with the kids. I usually request an upper floor, and try to get one of the buildings further back away from the pool and it hasn't been an issue. My understanding is that although many of them stay at All Stars, they are really all over and you can run into them at almost any hotel. (Well, probably not many at GF!)

Of course, we tend to be on the first bus to the parks in the morning and return on the last, so we don't spend much time at the resort, and by the time we do get back to the room, it would take more than a few teenagers to keep us from falling asleep immediately! I suppose if you plan to be in your room most of the evening or want to sleep in, maybe they will be a nuisance. But most of the day they are busy with their football and cheering events anyway.

We have AAA rates for Music three nights prior to the cruise, but Disney didn't have the CCF rate in the system for those dates. We didn't check the weekend after the cruise, since we booked Movies through one of the Mousefest travel agencies to be able to take advantage of a special event. The price differences were only a few dollars anyway.

I love the "Deluxe" hotels at Christmas--especially Wilderness Lodge--but we have decided we just aren't in the room long enough to justify the prices. So we'll stop in there and the Grand Floridian lobby to enjoy the tree and garland, but drop our bags at the All Stars. The Value hotels are cheaper than most hotels you will find in any major city, so to get the Disney touch for so little is awesome!!!

That thread is the link to responses I got about the AllStar hotels being overrun with kids from Pop Warners. The friend of mine booked at Pop Century since that appeared to be the safest of the values. It seems Disney tries to keep them all together rather than spread them out all over.

Just a reminder. Have you registered on the Mousefest site for the cruise? You can also see what activities they are planning. Everything is optional of course.

We might go on the walk in Nassau as I was only planning on getting off the ship for a walk, so may as well learn a little about the town.
Here's the link again for people who may be interested in officially signing up for Mousefest:

This one will be bittersweet for us as we won't be able to go next December, the first mousefest we'll miss since 2004. The dates are moving too late in December for my work schedule. :sad1:

Tom,

Thanks for the info..........I'll have to check them out and see how much they cost.

It says on a couple of the lenses that it has internal focusing (IF)......does that mean that the motor is not built into the lens?

From what I was able to tell on the web site they do have the built in motor for AF. Here is a link to Sigma's web site,

http://www.sigmaphoto.com/lenses/lenses_all.asp

They just came out with a new line of lenses specifically for Nikon. Any lens with the HSM option has the internal motor for focusing. I know they are considerably cheaper than the Canon lens, I don't know how they compare with the Nikon brand in price.

Tom, would it be okay to send you an email about the lenses? I don't want to digress on the thread. LOL

Thanks,

WHEW!!!

It took me all afternoon, but I finally got through reading the entire thread! I feel I know everyone a bit better! You guys seem like a very nice group of Disers!!! I hope we all have a chance to run into each other at one point during the cruise!

Let me just tell you a little about myself and those traveling with me:

Both my twin sis and I are physically disabled with limb-girdle muscular dystrophy and need ECVs to get around. I do medical transcription part time from home and also do some freelance work as a musician (very rarely nowadays). Jill also is a professional musician and we both play in a semi-professional wind-ensemble. I also play in a brass quintet.

The couple that will be traveling with me are Tim and Lynda. We go to church together and they went on their first cruise last year (Carnival) and loved it. And they know how much I have been wanting to go back to Disney and asked if I wanted to go to Disney. So the Disney trip evolved into a DISNEY CRUISE!!!! Tim is suppose to be pretty entertaining at Karaoke (sp?).........so I'm told. So, he agreed to do Karaoke while on the cruise! LOL

We also did not get Palo brunch ressie's, but got dinner ressies for Palo......forget what day and time??? Sorry.....I'll have to look.

We're staying in a cat. 5 cabin 7138 (a handicapped accessable room) way in the back, the aft. And the veranda is huge! I saw pics of the cabin that someone posted on their trip report! We needed to all be in one cabin, so that was the best we could do and it still be affordable. Wish we were in a cat. 3......jealous of Micheal and Marc! BTW, look forward to seeing your pirate costumes! :) I may even have to get a pic or two of you guys!

Well, I need to go and get some sleep as I work night shift! I'll catch up with the thread tomorrow!

Have a good one everyone!

Joy

You guys could carry on all you want..... I didn't mean that it was bothersome. In fact any topics that bump us up are fine.
I was just laughing at the fact that I had NO clue what you guys are talking about. I tried to keep up but just couldn't :rotfl:

Kimmy,
As best I could tell they were discussing secret handshakes. I can tell you that learning these particular handshakes are much more difficult to deal with without having some of that magic elixir, tequila. I think it's time to head out the door!

I actually do marvel at anyone who can use a camera. I'm bringing my Kodak 110 Instamatic!

Kimmy,

I didn't take it that way at all. :) I guess I was just getting a little worried about highjacking the thread talking about photography instead of the trip. Didn't know if that would bother anyone or not. So, it wasn't you at all. :)

I'm not sure I have a clue either! :rotfl:

Off to work I go.........

Joy, we're on Deck 7 aft, room 7622, on the opposite side further back. I will look out for you.

Hi, everyone. Sorry I got off on a tangent there with Joy. Been real busy around here. Getting the house buttoned up for winter :scared1: and decorating for Halloween.

Welcome to any newcomers I missed. :wave2: It's nice to see our group growing. I can hardly wait, the trip will be here in no time. Our house is getting really excited.

Is anyone else going to do the Walt Suite tour? We just signed up for it and I can't wait to see it. Our last two cruises we were trying to find a way to sneak in and see it. It is now on the Mousefest site and you have to RSVP.

Thanks for the info. I wanted to do it, but last time I checked it wasn't available to sign up for.
I am on my way there now.
