Dec. 2, 2007-4 night Wonder and MouseFest Cruise

No I have a Canon, but the process is similar. I see Gregg already gave you some advice. I was looking on Nikon’s site trying to determine if your lenses had a fixed aperture or not. I am assuming your kit lens has a 3.5-5.6f stop depending on where you are in the zoom range. It should be alright if you crank the ISO up and use your tripod as long as there is not much motion. For action shots like the parade, fireworks, etc. you will need a faster lens with a fixed f stop of 2.8 or larger which can be quite pricey.

My boyfriend used to live in Adell WI, he worked in Milwaukee.
It's very cold there. But then again I am from the south and I think 50 is cold.
I had to google Adell because I'd never heard of it. It is a very tiny town north of here.

Yes, it gets cold here in winter. I love the change of seasons though. It's in the low 50's around here right now. Winter is mostly in the 20s with some teens, some 30's. We do get cold stretches that can be around zero or even lower.

That's why we love our Disney time, we get away from the cold!

Tom,

Yes, I believe so, 3.5 was the lowest I could go down to after doing some test shots this evening. I was out trying the tripod and some night shots in appeture mode with no flash to see it would go.

You mean, I could get a lens with a motor for my D40x, only not the 50mm lens, that would have a smaller f stop?

Cause I want to get shots of the fireworks and parades/shows. That might be the only chance I'll have to pull some pics off of the Dwarfs.......during the parade. I'm going to MVMCP on the 29th and from what I have been told, the Dwarfs can only be seen in the parade. :(

DragonSlyr,

Staying at the Poly! I'm sooooo excited as this was one of the resorts that I have been wanting to stay at but thought I could never afford it.

And thanks for the welcome everyone! :)

What is a secret Santa?

There is myself and my twin sis who are both in EVCs and a couple, friends from church, traveling with us.

Lime green is my favorite color too!

He lived in Sheboygan and Appleton as well. And he is a BIG Packers fan. Can you believe that?;)

Just a reminder. Have you registered on the Mousefest site for the cruise? You can also see what activities they are planning. Everything is optional of course.

We might go on the walk in Nassau as I was only planning on getting off the ship for a walk, so may as well learn a little about the town.

Good morning everyone. How are everyones pre-trip plans coming along?
I started to pack the other day. The temps have finally dropped and instead of putting my summer clothes away, I am starting to stuff them in my suitcase. I'm sure I will still be packing in the last hours, but at least I have started.

Mousefest site? Don't know about that site........hmmmmm.

Granmaz, I think I found the site.........just need to take a look around and see what I can find out.

Kimmy,

I've not started to pack yet. I'm planning on packing the week before I leave right before Thanksgiving. :) BUT, I do have an itinerary kind of somewhat figured out for the parks while on land.........not sure if the itineraries are good or not. I posted on the theme parks board and never really got any responses as to whether or not it would work. ????

I am getting VERY excited though. Course, I've been VERY excited since I booked my vacation!

We did the Nassau walk hosted by Dave Marx in 2004 (yes, we remember that rather humid Mickey's Christmas party too! It was too hot to wear our usual Santa hats.) and quite enjoyed it, though the historic district is certainly not the most glamorous part of Nassau. We liked it mostly for the exercise, to help counteract those huge meals just a little, as it is rather hilly, and because it was a very nice way to meet a few of our fellow Mousefesters, just walking and talking together. At the top of the fort you can get a beautiful picture of the ship docked in the harbor, so be sure to bring your camera!

We had toyed with the idea of doing the Atlantis tour this trip, but from what I read it really only tours the aquarium, and since I am not that interested in fish, I don't know if it is worth the money. Has anyone done that? Yeah or nay? Is it worth going over just to wander the resort on our own?

So unless someone here persuades us that it is worth seeing Atlantis, you will probably us trekking up the hill and down the big staircase in Nassau again. We might try our hand at haggling a little in the straw market, but I would rather spend my dollars on Disney souvenirs.

I haven't been able to be on these boards much lately. I'm a college admissions counselor and this is our busiest time of year--but we are starting to get very excited about the cruise, since we haven't been back for 3 years. I like the idea of a meet, but I don't know if I have any lime green. Will holiday themed "hunter green" shirts work too? I'll just watch for any shade of green. (hmm, no Disney reference intended there!)

Thanks Joan. Perhaps we will be chatting going up that hill in Nassau then.:)

You'll be there with all the kids from Pop Warner's that weekend. It's the football championship and the cheerleader contest. Thousands of kids stay at the All Star hotels that week (ends the 10th, I think.)

I've got some friends booking tonight and they are booking at Pop Century just to avoid all the All Star hotels with the loud kids. Maybe you can still switch?

For those of you who are still booked at All Stars, I just want to say "don't worry too much": we have been there twice during Pop Warners and have never had a major problem with the kids. I usually request an upper floor, and try to get one of the buildings further back away from the pool and it hasn't been an issue. My understanding is that although many of them stay at All Stars, they are really all over and you can run into them at almost any hotel. (Well, probably not many at GF!)

Of course, we tend to be on the first bus to the parks in the morning and return on the last, so we don't spend much time at the resort, and by the time we do get back to the room, it would take more than a few teenagers to keep us from falling asleep immediately! I suppose if you plan to be in your room most of the evening or want to sleep in, maybe they will be a nuisance. But most of the day they are busy with their football and cheering events anyway.

We have AAA rates for Music three nights prior to the cruise, but Disney didn't have the CCF rate in the system for those dates. We didn't check the weekend after the cruise, since we booked Movies through one of the Mousefest travel agencies to be able to take advantage of a special event. The price differences were only a few dollars anyway.

I love the "Deluxe" hotels at Christmas--especially Wilderness Lodge--but we have decided we just aren't in the room long enough to justify the prices. So we'll stop in there and the Grand Floridian lobby to enjoy the tree and garland, but drop our bags at the All Stars. The Value hotels are cheaper than most hotels you will find in any major city, so to get the Disney touch for so little is awesome!!!

How does having all the kids there affect the crowding in the parks?

I think at least we are not at the parks for 3 of the days with being on the cruise. If you read threads on the main board there seem to be very mixed reports but mainly cheering groups of blocks of cheerleaders and pushing in front in lines. Some say busses can be a problem, made worse by the cheering cheerleaders.

Last year we went to MGM on the Monday and did see more groups, just one lot cheering, but nothing noticeable. We were in Epcot and MK on the Tuesday and Wednesdays and didn't notice anything different. Thursday we left. It was busier though everywhere than the previous week.

They close MGM early on the Friday for the POP Warner get together.

I hardly even noticed them at the parks. I think the worst is DTD in the evening. They sorta take over the place. The football players are fine... it's the Cheerleaders that are obnoxious!!
As far as the Resorts.... I think what Joan said is right on. They are gone during the day at their events. I again, hardly even noticed them. The All-Star Sports gets the bulk of them.

Thanks for the responses. We picked this time to avoid crowds. It could really be annoying to have a whole park full of cheerleaders.

Forgive me if I have posted this before - have absolutely no idea now what I have posted before and I'm not going back to look!!!:lmao:

Here we are.
