I asked a few questions at the 12/14/04 owners meeting, and then talked to Joe from Owner Services afterwards. For most of you... there is nothing new here... but I thought I would document what we discussed:
1) Member Services Hours: I expressed my dissatisfaction with the hours... especially for those of us on the west coast... who need to deal with the call center closing at 2:30 PM on most days. Joe said to expect longer hours in the future as business continues to increase. This question was related to my #2 question below.
2) Computerized booking: DVC's booking is in the stone age. For such an overall advanced company as Disney... the fact that they do not do computerized booking is unexcusable. A reasonable expectation is that we should be able to see real time availability of all inventory by unit type, resort, and number of units available per day. Joe said to definately expect computerized booking, but that it will take at least 1 year... and probably 2 years before it is implemented.
3) Full service restaurant at SSR: They are looking into it, but no definate plans at this point (boilerplate answer).
4) Smoking guarantee (vs request): Joe said that the number of smoking rooms have been continually decreasing, and that it is probably inevitable that at some point, smoking would be banned... but it would be a decision that would probably have to be made corporate wide, and handed down from the top. I tried to re-ask the question about changing the reservation process to make smoking a a different room class... so that you are guaranteed at the time of reservation to have your desired class of room. I do not think that I got a clear answer to my question. He did confirm that when people who request a non-smoking room check-in late, and do not get their request... they are often very annoyed.
All in all, I was pleased with the discussions. I dont think that I really learned anything new... but no red flags went off for me either. I think all of the staff did a pretty good job.
