Debt free!!!!!

Aside from my house and car, I am officially debt free!

I just got my tax refund, and it was much larger than usual because I bought a house after my divorce and qualified for the $6500 tax credit. I just so happened to have a nasty VISA balance of about $6000 that I just couldn't ever seem to pay down. It was such a burden, paying on that card every month (and the interest rate was 21%!!!!!!).

And now it's GONE! It feels so awesome. I'm going to keep making that payment, but put it into savings each month.

If we didn't have a fat tax bill (that we cash flowed), we would have paid off the car -$450 a month. I can't to feel wait to feel what you are feeling!

You are so smart to make that payment to yourself now.

As of last November we are officially "interest free" after paying off a 30-year mortgage in 16.5 years (I have a car payment only because it is zero interest). I have been paying our old monthly mortgage payment into savings, and the extra money from my raise this year gets paid right into our vacation account.

It is astounding how much further your money goes (no matter how much you make) when you are not paying any interest.

We started living debt free a few years ago. We paid off our cars and student loans and have only the mortgage left. It is very freeing to live debt free.
