Debt Dumpers 2026

I absolutely agree with this. Especially trying to walk for exercise. Sneakers only last 300-500 miles. And even if he only wore them occasionally, the rubber that makes up the tread & foam on the interior deteriorates over time.
I walk a lot. I am religious about looking for a replacement pair of the 300 mile mark. I have waited to replace and suffered in pain for days.

I always bring my pair that needs to go on vacation with me along with a new pair. I use the icky pair for rainy days at Disney, muddy days elsewhere, and then find a place to recycle them there. It frees up space for a souvenir this way :)

I don't shop at Goodwill or Thrift stores for fear of that stuff. As has been established, I am a big time germophobe. Just walking into those places gives me the heebie-jeebies. I could buy shoes, well could. But now I'm trying not to spend money until we get out of debt. I just don't want to spend $100 on a pair of shoes. Plus, I like having the air pocket on the bottom for cushion. And those run more expensive.
My point about the heebie jeebies is that it is on the new stuff also. You wash new clothes when you first buy, right? Same applies from a thrift store.

I understand not wanting to spend $100 on shoes. When your budget allows it, which you have made great progress with so maybe even this year you will be able to, I encourage you to go to a running store. Try on a bunch of pairs. The clerk will check your gait. You will be amazed at how much more you want to walk when you have good shoes. Also, all of our local running shops put your name in the system and you get 25% off the next pair within 6 months. Another option is if you volunteer at an organization, for example for a school band or sports team, they get an ongoing discount that you can use.

I've never heard of that, but that's interesting. I'll have to keep that in mind. The inside of my blue pair is pretty much gone, and the side has a hole in it. My black pair is in good shape, except one of the shoelace loops has broken off. So the laces don't tie right.
Shoelaces are cheap to replace. Measure the one that's not broken and replace them. Luckily black is an easy color to match. :thumbsup2

No, whatever brand golf polos they have. Many times they carry their own Kirkland brand items. My husband does not care about brands. He cares more about cut & fabric.
Gotcha. DW only likes me wearing Nike, Under Armor, Adidas or Antigua polos or ones with team logos (Cowboys, Rangers, Longhorns). But thanks for the idea.

I just washed the new polo I got last night before wearing it to church. I wash all new-to-me clothes, whether I buy them new in Dillards or used in some thrift store.

I will check into running stores. As long as they carry NIke, Under Armor or Adidas, I will look at them. That' what my DW likes me wearing. Might be cheaper than some place like Academy or the Nike outlet.

Sorry, but your wife shouldn’t have anything to say about what shoes you wear. Shoe selection should be about what is comfortable for you, what keeps your foot aligned & supported, not what brands she likes. Everyone’s feet & gait are different & your shoes need to support those. You could be doing damage to your body by selecting the wrong shoe. Your wife’s opinion influencing what color shirt you wear is certainly reasonable. Her opinion on what brand shoes you select isn’t.

Why does it matter what you wear? Do you specify what she's allowed to wear?

This is ridiculous and so high school. I don't know any adults that still judge people based on what logos they wear like back in elementary school.

Well, the obnoxious logo stuff from Gucci, LV etc gets judged but that's more because it's obnoxious and show offy.

Going back to the topic of laundry for a moment, be sure to clean your dryer lint trap often (I clean mine after every load). Not only is a filled lint trap a fire hazard, it also reduces the efficiency of your dryer. Another consideration is that the lint is made up from clothing fibers - proof that laundry wears down what you're washing.

You only end up paying $100+ if you walk into a store and buy without shopping around first.

Wear what YOU like. You have your own taste and your own brain.

Didn’t you say that you will not buy from a thrift store but now you say you wash the clothes when you do? 🤔

Nike, Under Armor and Adidas are more focused on fashion forward then shoes that serve the purpose of helping your feet as you continue to increase your steps as I believe you have an exercise more goal. Look for Hokas, Brooks, New Balance. Shop sales so that the $150+ price tag doesn’t make you ill. Also, look for places you may not expect to find a good sale at. Example, I found Hoka on clearance at REI after Christmas for over 1/2 off.

Back to budgeting…any exciting meal planning suggestions? Getting tired of the same old, same old. I prepare a couple of meals on Sundays for easy cooking on Mon, Tue and Wed, Thur is left overnight. I try to plan the meat to cover 3 meals. For example one pound of ground chicken equals tacos, sliders, and chili. Typically we are only cooking for two. This week it is bbq chicken breast in the crockpot now for tonight with the leftovers for shredded chicken sandwiches and bbq tacos. But I feel like it is the same week after week. Help!
