Debt Dumpers - 2016

First time posting here.

Been trying to repair credit score. I got a few collections removed from my credit report which dropped me to about a 480 around December. I got a secured credit card from Discover to help with repairs and up to 600 right now.

I have a underwater carloan right now which I'm trying to settle (losing my job recently doesn't help) and once I start working somewhere else, I plan on going to a local dealership who puts you in a newer car with a more affordable rate (I pay $406 a month for a 2009 Santa Fe)

Have some small student loans to pay off as well.

Hope I get up to 700 by the end of next year.
Welcome! Sounds like you are doing great. How did you get the collections removed? Contact the creditor or the credit bureau? Good luck with the job hunting.

Through CreditKarma with the direct dispute option. For Equifax I had to contact them.

Luckily I got an offer at the job I really wanted today. I'm working a temporary job on the 16th while my AZ trainee license (for pharm tech) goes through.

Glad to be apart of this group.

Congratulations on the new job!! It is always great when it's actually the job you want to do, not one you just have to take to survive.

Thank you for the information. That is very helpful. We are glad you are here.

jumping back in I've been gone the past 2 weeks...jury duty last week and playing catch up this week.

DH has had 2 paychecks now at the new job and its going great! Pending no unexpected expenses we will actually start next pay period with a small balance which is fantastic because for almost six months we were borrowing against our savings each pay period. I automatically add money to savings each pay period and some of this was to pay off bills unexpected expenses and some of it was not budgeting right. We are finally in the black and that includes being able to do a few extra things such as eating out a few times a month and other fun stuff.

Extra happy dance time I budget $150 a month for our electric bill May's bill came in yesterday and it's only $86 whooohoo! DH agreed the extra money can be split between Christmas fund and Disney fund. Score!

a bummer though
1) my car accuator switch must be replaced :( can't be an adjustment for $80 its a full on replacement that the mechanic quoted at $500 due to having to go up in my dash and electrical mess blah. That' won't be fun but I at least I'll have ac again next week!

Seems that Murphy stopped by to see me - add me to the list with car problems! Went to start my car yesterday and nothing - doesn't even turn over. The lights work so I had it towed today to the shop - more than likely it's either the starter or ignition switch. Argh! Hopefully should know something Monday

I've fallen a bit off the wagon. I bought some new clothing items for myself, probably more than I should have. Unfortunately I've gained weight this winter :sad2: and I've held off on buying things for so long that there were some things I really needed. I've also discovered Lularoe and that has become an obsession I need to cease with immediately :rolleyes1. So, time to get back on plan.

It's been a long week....

My DH was out of town for a few days, and I've been sick since Wednesday. I haven't gotten much of anything accomplished this week at all. I'm still not feeling well, so I may not get much accomplished this weekend either.

My DH had to turn the job offer down. They called him earlier this week to talk about details, and he found out that not only did he not get the exact job that he applied for, he would only get 25 hours a week max, and he would have to work at a location about 45 minutes away from home. After you factor in the low number of hours and fuel costs, he wouldn't make enough money to make it worth his while, so he declined the job offer. Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers though and please keep them coming for his self-employed work and possibly another job opportunity in the future.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend! Happy Mother's Day! :flower3:

Sorry to hear that about the job. They really should be up front and honest with job applicants instead of wasting everyone's time interviewing & getting excited over one job, when it's actually something else. Scummy...

Stay strong! You can do it. :thumbsup2

When you need clothes, you need them, but if you're buying simply because you see so much that you like, they you're caving in to impulse shopping.
Sometimes it's hard to discern between a want and a need.
I'm going through that now with household items like towels, pillows, etc. So many purchases I had been delaying for so long. Sure we could get another year out of our towels but they're starting to get frayed along the edges and a lot of their fluff has worn off. Kohls had a great sale and I had a 30% off code. I caved. :guilty:
Dh has a dirty job and they are given time at the end of their shift to shower so now he can have our old towels for work. His current work towels are getting so shabby I don't know if I'd want them for washing cars. :lmao:

I decided long ago that t-shirts are bad souvenirs. Everyone already knows I went and I don't get to see my shirt while I'm wearing it, so I buy towels instead. (And blankets and the occasional pillow). The towels last longer, I get to see them, and I'm collecting enough that I should have towels for most of the rest of my life.

I got my car fixed! They couldn't find a leak so my dad said just to add coolant since I'm low or get an A/C check/flush sometime this summer. So I paid to get my steering fixed and they said I could get more time on my rear shocks so I put that off too. Got an oil change too! So for just under $400 my car is once again safe. I'm going to do my darnedest to save a car payment each month. I could apply it to my debt or I could save it, either way would help me.

My camera is broken so I'm going to take a peek at target's sales but I'm also going to drop it off at the local Dodd store to see about getting it fixed instead. I've been wanting a DSLR for years but haven't bought one yet. i really want to have a camera for this trip to Disney. My trip is only 28 days away!

Hello all...new to debt dumpers. I've lerked disboards for years though never posted much until lately. My wife and I had in the ballpark of 100k worth of debt 7 years ago. Credit card debt, auto loans, student loans, medical debt, and money borrowed from the parents. You name it. Wejust became debt free except mortgage in December. It was a brutal 7 years, I ate oatmeal for breakfast and Ramen for lunch pretty much daily. No cable TV, neglected certain aspects of the house. But we are free. As a way to celebrate we bought DVC just weeks ago. Once that is paid off we will attack the mortgage. 2016 will be the worst year for us paying off debt since we we've been married. Between DVC and making long overdue repairs on the house. I look forward to getting back on track in 2017. God bless my wife for sticking through these years with me, I've always felt bad that we could not afford a better lifestyle but I think that will be changing soon. :)

Well we have good and bad news at our house. Bad news- my husband needed unexpected vehicle repairs to the tune of $1200. UGH!! Goodish News- Our adult daughter broke up with her boyfriend and moved home. We are mean parents and charging her rent so that money can be directed to our debt payoff.

lol. I'm really glad my parents never charged me rent. I bounced back and forth out of their house several times over the years.

My parents charged me rent once I was finished school and started working FT. I paid for my own school because it was local/public and not expensive so I had no student loans. Back in those early days I blew most of my paychecks on having fun & taking trips so in hindsight I don't think it was all that unfair of them. At the time, I thought it was mean though. They were charging $200/month and I could easily get my own apt for around $500. I think my first was $550 but each unit had its own washer/dryer which was hard to find. When I told them I could get my own place for a little bit more they said, "Well go ahead then." I'm sure they loved the drop in utility bills. I could see the difference in the water bill the first month ds went away to college.
Luckily, I never moved back. Within a few weeks of getting the apt, dh moved in anyway and I'm still at the same job, 25 yrs later. Ho hum. Still swimming....

What a wonderful, happy ending! Your story is so inspirational.
Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes

My daughter, due to an obvious parenting fail lol, is the type that if given an inch will take a mile. She would live with us with no intent to move out or save for anything else. She makes $14 an hour at the age of 20 (which in our area is very good for a non degree position). She has a car payment (which is only $200) but no other responsibilities and would be perfectly content to live at home again with no responsibilities and having mom and dad doing everything.

lol, Well, that wasn't ever me. I love my parents, but was really glad when I could move out. Thinking back on it, the only times I moved back were due to extenuating circumstances - lost my house to a tornado, after I finished college and was unemployed, when I got out of the Army and was unemployed (though I stayed 2 months after I got a job so I could save for a the deposits to move into a place). Most of my "bouncing" really occurred while I was going to college, where I'd move out for a semester or year, then have to move back when the roommates I had either failed out of school or left for the summer.

That's fantastic!! Well done!

This is my sister. We came from the same parents and I'm not like this at all. She is older than me and it was just us two. She lived with my dad rent free for 5 years and only had a car payment, my dad paid the insurance for both of us. I got kicked out at 17 because I was pregnant and he was angry (with every reason to be). I decided to not move in with my mom insisting I had to live with my son's father. His parents took me in and helped us both but I always worked until DS came 7 weeks early and I battled labor for a week trying to keep him inside me. I ended up back with my mom after we broke up and she helped me for a few years and then I helped her for a long time. Still am but not as much. My sister is separated from her husband with no divorce in site and living with my aunt rent free and no money saved at all! She owes me like $500 or so and I'm cutting her off too. She owes just about everyone in my family money plus a few credit cards. I only owe my debtors, not family. She also told my aunt, "I don't cook and I don't clean". I was floored when I heard that. She now has a move out date of July 1 per my aunt and her husband.

It's not the parents fault, it is her attitude, her problem. I'm grateful for the help my mom gave me when I ended up homeless with an infant. I've moved around a lot and made plenty of mistakes but always want to do better. No one knows what happened with my sister. She thinks everyone owes her something. My dad helped her out plenty of times but when he fell on hard times she was no where to be found. Had I known my dad was that bad off, I would've moved home in a heart beat to help him, even with our once rocky relationship. He doesn't ask for help ever, and ended up losing his home after his position at work was eliminated. I would've moved home and helped him out instead of living with my then boyfriend. Would've saved my sanity and a lot of lost years on a bad relationship. My dad is happy now though, so it all worked out.

Good luck with your daughter! Hopefully she is just going through a phase and will appreciate everything you've done for her!

When she leaves, can I move in? Lmao! Sorry I just had to ask.

I do have an extra room still so you could totally move in. You would have to share a bathroom with the unmotivated daughter! Lol
