Debt Dumpers - 2016

Well, I either did something good or really stupid. lol.

I just wrote Diamond about my timeshare, and pointed out that they had failed to uphold a couple of the provisions within the contract. Based on them failing to comply with all the provisions, I claimed that the contract had been voided by them, and I was awaiting their contact to arrange a refund of all funds paid.

So, either I'm going to be successful with getting the full refund, or I'm going to make someone mad that I actually read the contract and they'll come after me with everything they have.

Fingers crossed it's something good...

I was looking at offsite hotels for our December Disney trip this year and several Diamond resorts came up on Expedia. I thought of you and snootily refused to investigate those ones further! :snooty:

 Thanks. But as long as you don't get suckered into a sales meeting (and definitely don't buy a timeshare from them !!!) the one resort I toured was really nice.

Though, if you are doing a Disney specific trip, I'd check out either Silver Lake or Orange Lake. Silver Lake is closer to the parks than Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge, but Orange Lake is a nicer overall resort.

DH found out today they might not be getting bonuses AT ALL at work now. UGH! We aren't necessarily counting on the bonus as income or anything like that, but we were planning on using it to pay his car off. We are still in good shape to have it paid off early this year anyways, but that would have easily taken care of it next month.

Hopefully we get a little bi something anyways. It's a three paycheck month too, so we'll have a little extra this month to put towards the car.

@DisneyMandC well that sucks about the bonus! I mean, I know they are just that - extra. But when people have received them in the past they come to kind of expect them. Bummer.

I got a letter - or should I say BILL - in the mail today from the lawyer handling my dad's estate. Seems the money we all received from the insurance policy are not 'really part of the estate' and thus his time is billed directly (instead of taking it out of the estate). Um ok. My portion is $280. So is my half brother's and my lovely evil step mother gets to pay him nearly $1200:rotfl:Whatever, considering how much I received from the insurance policy $280 is nothing. I just thought it was strange this portion was billed directly to us and not taken out of the proceeds from the estate at the end. But the lawyers' gots to gets paid man :rotfl2:

Happy Weekend!

We're still plugging along with our savings goal. We'll get there. Slowly, but surely. :snail:

Wins from this week:

* Got paid from one of my rewards programs, put the money went into savings

* Had an easy day making both goals at Swagbucks today (The past week has been kind of rough just making the first goal each day, yet alone the second.)

* After today, I may have enough money for another Disney gift card. (We try and use cash when we can, and when we get any one dollar bills that have D's (Disney) or F's (Florida) on the federal reserve seal, we save those in an envelope and buy a Disney gift card when we hit $25.)

I am going to try and get a few items listed on eBay and Craigslist sometime this weekend. The weather is really nice here though, so I'm not sure how "motivated" I will be.:sunny:

Hope everyone has a great weekend! :wizard:

Doing pretty well here. Paid $975 yesterday on the cc I am focusing on paying off. To date I have paid off 4k in cc debt so far this year! Our DL trip is coming up and I have gift cards to cover my park tickets and some meals. The hotel is already paid for. Next, I will be booking my hotel for my trip to Shanghai DL but I'm still waiting to get the final dates from the hosts of the conference I'm attending. I'm getting excited and nervous for this trip which should be in early July! I am hoping to get my one cc paid off with July's payment, but we will see how it goes.

My car has been running great with no more issues in the past few weeks - knock on wood of course!

I think I will join you all! We have some credit card debt that needs to be paid off. We are working hard on that. Also in about 4 months my car will be paid off! Yay! The good thing about the car loan is that is was zero interest. So all the money went right to the car loan. So happy to be able to put that money towards another bill.

Well, I may have temporarily failed in my dumping. I signed with a law firm to represent me in my dispute with Diamond. They do guarantee that they will manage a cancellation of the contract, but do not guarantee that I will receive a refund of what I have paid. So, on one hand, I'm reducing my overall debt by about $19,500, but at the same time I'm increasing my credit card debt to the tune of $3500.

What I'm really kind of praying for is that the credit card will rule in my favor on the dispute of the charges and charge back the funds I paid. It wouldn't be everything, but it would be $5000 of the $6350 I have paid Diamond, and would be more than enough to pay the law firm.

And because apparently Murphy just can't help kicking me when I'm down ... the toilet in the master bathroom seems to be leaking. At least, everytime I flush it, the rug around it gets soaked. *sigh* Good thing I have 2 bathrooms in the house, at least short term I can just not use the master bath toilet until I can figure out a way to get a plumber to look at it.

Sounds like your wax seal on the toilet.

We are still waiting on DH's new car to arrive at the dealer. They were able to offer another $500 off the price, which was exciting and unexpected because we had already decided to purchase the vehicle. I think maybe they are worried we will jump to another dealership before we seal the deal. I originally thought that we would finance the car through USAA, but we might get a better deal through VW, so they are going to run the application on Monday and we will compare the rates.

I also sold an item on eBay for $900 that I have had listed for almost a year now. YAY! This money is going straight into our emergency fund to help replenish it and will make it easier for us to pay that all back in the next two months.

Amy idea how expensive that is to fix?

We just had the same problem last month. I had a plumber come and replace the wax seal. He charged $175 for parts and labor. My dad said he thought it was a good deal, but I really don't know a lot about it beyond that.

We dodged a major Murphy bullet! I was so tired and determined to go to bed early last night, but I ended up staying up to watch tv. Around 10:30 I heard a noise that I couldn't put my finger on. Turns out the dishwasher hose broke under the sink and water was spewing out! If I'd have gone to bed early we would have woken up to a major flood. Whew!!

My husband has done this himself already. Look for a video on YouTube to see how to do it.

Yeah, my dad said this isn't too difficult to do yourself, if you want to save money. But he said without experience and the right tools, it would probably take us half a day. It took the plumber an hour and I didn't have to take any time off work.

Yikes! Good save!!

I'm still thinking about doing a yard sale early this summer. We're covered in snow again right now!

I think yard sales are great. My mom and I did a joint yard sale last year. She let me keep all of the proceeds and I used it towards DH's green card application. I don't really have enough to do an entire yard sale this year, but I have been listing on Craigslist first, then eBay if things don't move locally. It is mostly wedding decor that I am getting rid of, but a few other things. Its just nice that I have started reclaiming my basement.
