Debt Dumpers - 2016

So this month has been such a budget buster...the windows(they finally called to schedule a measurement, guy said they should be installed by first week of August) 7k..the new to me car- 5k down and $115.00 per month plus $30 extra for insurance.
I also tend to find screaming deals in July..much better than even black friday. Last year I bought my Dyson vac from Kohls and that thing has been a life saver in keeping a clean house since I have 2 cats and 2 kids. I had a hoover which was much cheaper but it broke down at least 2 times in 6 months.. the dyson, while costlier, is worth its weight in gold.

This July I found a pair of uggs boots that I have been eyeing for a few years. Bought them for $67.00 which is a great deal for Uggs. Then I just found a great deal on a keurig machine at kohls..$40.00 after kohls cash. Also found a k cup deal, $90.00 for 192 k cups which is 21 cents a cup. I do know these are not necessities, but they do make my life easier. I'm hoping to slow down the spending come August. Our Disney trip and spending money are all accounted for so that's a huge relief. We also don't pay for child care for the months of July and August (camp is prepaid) so that counts for something.

I think because I am off for the summer that I "spy" all sorts of good buys.
I did pick up a new vacuum cleaner and to be honest it works so well that I am thinking my old Kenmore was doing nothing but blowing the dust and dirt around. I love my new one. I am justifying it's cost with knowing my home is much cleaner.:o I did have the money set aside.
I'm picking up little things here and there for christmas stockings (this year it is all cash NO credit).
That is a great price for Uggs. I know what you mean about balancing necessities and making life easier.
My dishwasher is on the fritz and I swear I am going to hand wash the dishes and save up the money before I resort to a credit card.
Congrats on having camp prepaid, well done.
Hugs Mel

I know I said I would keep my car but I ended up with a 2010 Toyota Camry with 60k miles for $11,000. I put down 5k and financed 6k at 1.9 interest through the Toyota credit finance Corp. My monthly payments are $115.00 a month. I am very happy to have a safe, reliable car. I intend to pay it off sooner as well. It's a certified used Toyota with a 1 year warranty. Car insurance went up $30 a month because I added comp and collision.

I bought a Toyota Yaris and love it,,many recalls but atleast they are all covered by the dealer. Good gas mileage.
Best wishes to you .

Speaking of cars I wonder how dayvewc
is doing?

~the Miss Whimsy story~

That place is dangerous. This is why I avoid the mall, in general. I would go for one thing, then DH would say, "Let's get our free Godiva candy." And we would proceed to get 3 each. Then we would notice a sale at Eddie Bauer and buy a few clearance items, because they are such a good deal, why not? And before we knew it, we would leave the mall having spent a small fortune.

But this hasn't happened in a while. We are being so very good.

I need to hang with you and your hubby!!

So tonight the kitchen sink filled with water and the disposal is clogged. Usually we can get it going again but no go this time. Dishwasher guy is coming tomorrow and I hope he can do what he needs to. Need to call the plumber. Timing with all these things breaking really stinks. Sigh.

Before you pay someone to come, I would remove the U-bend section of your drain below the sink. I have clogged the sink before and DH unclogs it by removing that part. It is the most likely place for the clog to be. Just make sure to put a plastic tub or something below before you open it because water will come out.

Also could try this:

The coat-hanger trick

If you have a two-bowl sink and only one side is clogged, there’s a good chance this fix will work. First look under the sink to locate the waste tee. If your drain setup looks something like the one shown here and the water is backing up on the side without the waste tee, you may be able to remove the clog with a bent coat hanger (opening photo). There’s a baffle inside the waste tee that is meant to direct water down the drain, but since the baffled area is narrower than the rest of the drain, food often gets stuck there. Garbage disposers are notorious for causing clogs, especially at the baffle. The trick is to bend a hook on the end of a coat hanger wire and use it to dislodge the clog. Use a pliers to bend a hook that will fit through the slots in the basket strainer. Peek under the sink to get a rough idea how far down the waste tee is from the basket strainer. Push the bent hanger down the drain. Then twist and pull until you feel it hook onto the baffle. Now wiggle it up and down while twisting it to remove the clog. Run water in the clogged sink to tell if you’ve removed the obstruction. If the sink still doesn’t drain, there’s a clog farther down. Move on to the next step.

Our budget has been busted TOO terribly this month, but our restaurant spending looks out of control. This is mainly from DH spending over a week at the hospital with his dad, so they were just getting take out since they didn't have to leave to go home when they weren't sure what was going to happen with him. They also had many friends bring food to the hospital, but there are still a lot of fast food charges. Of course I'm not going to complain about that at all because I would have done the exact same thing if I was there the whole time. And we did have a very low spend month for eating out in June. Hopefully August will balance back out.

Thanks Mel. Yeah I got the uggs classic Cardy boots. I've been eyeing them for years but never would pay $200 or so for them. So as an early birthday gift I bought them for $68. I turn 39 next Friday.

hoping it's not too bad, eureka.

So budget is a bit tighter..I just found out they charged the entire 7k to our Home Depot credit card even though no work has been completed...ugh. I'm going to pay $1,000 today. The good news is that we have no interest until August 2018.

I love my keurig. My k cups are shipping today. I got all flavored, green tea, hot chocolate etc.. I should be good until next year. I did pay $40 for the k15 Classic at kohls using a number of discounts. I also used the staples $25 off $100 visa checkout deal to get 192 k cups for $89.

I pick up my car on Friday and have to pay the balance of the 5k deposit. So money is super tight around here. I do get paid on Friday which will go towards mortgage and private student loan payment. Good news is utilities are lower during summer..our gas bill was $28 this month and water about $50.

Water has gone down in my sink but clog is still there but I did try. Plumber can't come til tomorrow so I made an appt but will cancel if the dishwasher guy can maybe look at it. If he ever gets here...one more hour left of my window. I swear, does anyone ever come in the first half of the window?!

On another note, I have a phone interview for a job I applied for. Hoping I pass the screening and get an in-person interview. Hate this whole process.

50.

Did you know you can get a re-usable basket for a keurig and use your own coffee? Saves all the waste/packaging and so much cheaper!

I did but thank you. I plan to do this once my stash runs out. I hear it's $7 on Amazon.

When I used to have a Keurig, I had the reuseable basket for tea and it worked very well. DH always hated coffee from the Keurig, whether it was with the reuseable basket or a kcup. We got rid of it after I bought our fancy espresso machine. It heats water in addition to making espresso and heating/frothing milk, so no need for the Keurig anymore. But I think the reuseable basket is a good value.

That's next on my list..the nespresso machine! I'm so jealous!

We didn't get a Nespresso. We bought a Delonghi cappuccino machine because it had a lot more flexibility in what drinks you could make and you can use any coffee or espresso beans, which saves lots of money in the long run. We bought the machine for about $800 (after lots of discounts. It retailed for $1600), but we have cut down on Starbucks a lot. We have had it for 1.5 years and it has probably paid for itself already. Plus, the service on the machine is amazing. We registered it and Delonghi sent us 4 really cool cappuccino glasses plus we get a free care kit for cleaning and maintaining the machine every 6 months.
