Debt Dumpers - 2014

Can you apply for Medical Assistance for him?? I have a student who has the same type of issues. MA is very helpful in these types of situations. Good luck!!

I wish! I always apply but get turned down by the hospital because I have medical insurance and I get turned down by the county because I make too much money (I live above the poverty line). My deductible for my son is $2,000 but have a maximum out of pocket of $4,000. So I'm really hoping it doesn't get much more costly than that because that renews every year. Even after the $4k I am still responsible for my co-pays and medicine. I hope we can get this solved quickly and easily but it really does depend on the doctor. If I can ever get my tax refund (more than 21 days but no news) I can free up $300 for the bills and I can always apply for a forbearance on my student loans but those are under $150 month for the minimums. I've made his appointment for March 13 so I've got time to get the family history put together.

PrincessKymm - - I'm sending you support and virtual hugs. Struggling with family health issues are the worst, so I hope the doctors figure it out soon.

I don't know your son's medical history but children with certain "diagnosis" are covered 100% no matter what your income or coverage might be. It might be worth looking at that angle!

So upset :sad1: Sorry for the long post. Every week when I get paid I pay all the bills right away and then use every bit that is left and pay down my debt. This week I paid off one credit card and a small personal loan. Leaving me with $1 which is perfectly fine. But fast forward a few days after payday and its time to do oil changes on our cars which was an expected thing. We buy the expensive full synthetic motor oil for our cars and we buy them by the case which leaves us with one bottle after we do both cars. We had enough saved back to basically do a "free" oil change but when my husband went to get the oil a few bottles were missing  we live in a building with 4 apartments with a large open basement each apartment has its own "separate" space. The only conclusion I can come up with is someone stole our oil. I know its not a large expense but it still sucks. So now that plus the price for a nice locking cabinet is going right back onto the credit card I just paid off. :headache:

Well my family is approaching our 1 year mark for cutting our debt! We are still on track and have paid off a little more than 5k in debt over the last year. Hoping to cut our remaining debt in half when taxes come in. The fact that an entire year has gone by without adding debt has been a huge relief and peace of mind. It can be done!!! We can make good choices and see results!!!

Seeing the finish line so close is so encouraging. When we started everything was difficult to take in. Now every purchase is thought about...even when we decide to splurge a little we tend to feel guilty afterwards. Now if only we had a solution for lower child care costs...$800 a month is CrAZY to think about.

Kudos to everyone plugging away!

Way to go! You should feel so proud! I was actually surprised at how much you could pay towards your debt each year when I started!

Everyone is doing a fantastic job and everyone should feel super proud of themselves!! Even when there are times when Murphy hits - just air back and look at what you have accomplished!

Good job. And remember, the kids will grow up and you won't need to pay for daycare anymore. Feels like forever sometimes, but it will happen eventually :)

So I have a new debt coming up! I'm engaged! :). Time to start looking around. No clue where to start. Most likely a destination wedding.

Congrats on your engagement! We choose a destination wedding back in 2006. So glad we did. Couldn't have been easier. We chose Maui and went with a company called "A Dream Wedding". During our 7 month engagement I talked with them maybe a dozen times. All we had to do was show up!!

Kymm I hope things continue to look up for your DS and you are not just the mom. You know more about your kid than any doctor. I hope you find a great pediatric Cardiologist. I love mine for DS13, he rocked!

Holly Sorry your oil got stolen. Thieves suck! We can only hope that Karma bites the thief in the butt and they used the wrong kind of oil and their car blows up.
I can't believe your apartment building doesn't have cages for each apartment. MIL's independent living place had that and it was nice because we could lock up her seasonal stuff so it wasn't in the house. I'd ask the managers of the building about it.

**************************

As for us, we are doing ok. I need to reign in the budget now that we are back from vacation. We talked about the fact that mom is not a short order cook and that we eat out way to much. So we are going to come up with buddy meals. DH and I like beef casserole, but the kids hate it. So tonight we are having beef casserole and pasta. I'll cook double the pasta, take what I want for the casserole and the kids will eat the rest 2 with sauce and the other 2 with butter. That's as far as I will split. There will be no completely separate meals.
We also got DH's vacation pay out, that paid the Amex bill off. We had used it to buy the WDW tickets to get the points.
We are also getting a significant refund from the state and feds. Not sure where that is going to go.
DH is thinking of leaving the high paying job in June. I know the other place he is looking at will pay ok, but a lot less than he is getting paid now. So I'm trying to decide if I should use the entire refund to pay as much down as I can. Then use his 1 year anniversary bonus to pay off a ton before he leaves. Hopefully things get better and he doesn't leave but I'm prepping myself for the worst. I think if he does leave we might end up moving to FL but keeping this house to rent to my brother.
But now I will be reworking the budget to put every single extra penny to debt just in case DH leaves this job.

I hate that for you.

Congratulations!! The not adding to my debt has been the hardest part for me. Good to hear you have having success!!

Feeling very frustrated. I have been trying for 10 years now to get the state retirement system to accept my military service for credit towards my retirement. Found out today, that due to their delay, inaction, and incorrect information I cannot get the time counted unless I can pay a lump sum deposit that is more than an entire years salary. Arrgghhh. I'll still get retirement, it just means that I will be forced to wait 3 years longer.

That is awful! I really hope they will turn tail and fix it. Not a fun situation.

Hello debt dumping crew! Congrats to ceemys on your engagement! Have fun with the planning!

Everyone is doing so well, especially about being smart with their tax refunds. There is no real vacation on the horizon for us this year, but we’ve managed two fun things and we are cash flowing them. First, we are purchasing summer season passes to our local amusement/water park. We are paying for them monthly over four months and can easily fit this into our budget. Once we use them twice they are ‘paid for’….and any extra visits are gravy! The kids don’t know about these yet and I can’t wait to surprise them!

We’ve also managed to swing a visit to out of state relatives to meet our newest little niece! I cobbled the trip together using SW Rapid Rewards points and an about-to-expire credit. Only had to actually purchase one round-trip ticket, so we will at least collect more miles for that one. I did charge it to get the rewards, but immediately transferred money over from ING and paid the bill, so adding no new debt! We are going over spring break so we now have a little warm weather trip to look forward to. We are staying with the relatives so will only have to rent a car. This at least satisfies my need to get on a plane once a year!

The zero-based budget for every pay period is working very well for our household. It provides a sense of control, which I now laugh at when I think about it. Because we have always been in control of our money - it’s not like anyone else has ever been! It’s amazing what happens when you finally wake up about things!

Oh, and I had my first of three root canals done last Friday. I tell ya, the anticipation of having it done was worse than the actual procedure. And my out-of-pocket was only $243! Still have to have my regular dentist put a crown on it this Saturday, but am feeling confident about how much all this will cost and how we will pay for it.

The kids want a day of snowboarding/skiing…..just trying to figure out that one now. And we have a credit with a company for an RV rental, so looking in to how we could use that as well. It’s kind of fun to figure out how to get the things you want for as cheaply as humanly possible. You are my peeps, so I know you understand this feeling!

Congrats Ceemys!

I haven't checked in in awhile. I've made some progress on my emergency fund while also putting some money aside for our upcoming cruise. I want everything paid in cash, not credit! When I reach $1000 on my emergency fund, I'll start putting more of my money toward my CC debt but I'm slowly chipping away at it so that's better than nothing!

Most of my time has been spent looking for a new place to live. We live in a two family house and the neighbors downstairs have become unbearable. They have an 18 month old who runs around constantly & it shakes our walls. Plus they keep weird hours because the boyfriend is a bartender so we get woken up in the middle of the night by him slamming the front door or hearing their conversations. They blast their stereo and tv constantly and they smoke weed every other day. I'm thinking they do it in the middle of the night thinking we won't smell it but our room reeks in the morning. We've complained to the landlords but it doesn't look like they care as long as they're getting their rent check on time. We're fed up and want out. Hopefully we can find something soon! I don't want to have to deal with them much longer.

So that's life!

Hi I'd like to join this thread..

In 2013 we paid off Hubs student loan and one CC ..

This year we'd like to pay off the other 4 CC's (one is closed and 3 are open) Hubs Truck and personal loan.. then we'd be debt free ..

we actually are trying to get our credit rating up enough to cash in on the "old" moblie home act, basicly anything 1976 and older (ours is 1973) they give you a grant to swap it out for a new"er" one.. The grant covers taking out the old one and putting in the new one - on your same spot you have this minute and they are waiving some of the first time home buyer rules..

I also have to look into getting a second car again when we get that other debt paid off.. just before Thanksgiving my 17 yr old DS hit a 150 deer with my car on the way home from Hockey practice - he was fine, the deer was not and neither was my 13 yr old car.. so we've been a one car family for quite some time and it's getting old.. haaa ..

looking forward to cheering everyone on. Michelle
