Debt Dumpers - 2014

First time posting on this thread. I need to brag and this is the only place I can! :-) Paid off the car and a small credit credit card ( only 185 dollars) today. Five years ago I owned 3 cars: mine, my older daughters and my younger daughters. I was paying almost 700 a month toward cars. And today I paid off the last one!! It's a happy day.

Fantastic! :cool1:

You are on a roll!! Way to go! I still have two more statements I am waiting for so I can schedule to get my taxes done. I plan on putting it all in my emergency fund (depending how much I get back - I may actually treat myself to something!)
My treat will hopefully the vacation in October for my 40th. Although I could use some new socks :rotfl: maybe I will get me some.

Rounded up all the loose change in the house and from the cars.....$75.00 into the savings account! Now on to gathering paperwork to file my taxes this weekend!
Whoo hoo! :thumbsup2

Welcome! Congrats on paying off the loans!

Paid off a $700 loan today!!! SO excited to not have to deal with them again. Next payday I will pay off my QVC card from Christmas shopping. :cool1::banana:
Yippee!! Keep up the good work!

Can anyone point me to where I can find info on 403(b) accounts. I had a job several years ago and was putting money into a 403(b). I left the job but never did anything with the money that was in the account. It is just sitting there and while I have earned some money I imagine there is a better place for the money. Is it something I can roll over? What can I roll it over too?
If it makes any difference it has right around $750 in it.

You can roll them over with your bank. They can put them into a 401-k rollover fund. You won't be able to add to it though. I did this with my last job and it just sits there in a 401-k cd rollover (less than $700)

Thanks everyone! I've been lurking on this thread for awhile. All your great accomplishments are very motivating! I paid off my Target card today (darn Christmas shopping), and put $1000 in my savings account to start an emergency fund. I'm afraid to pay off more until we do our taxes. It seems like we always owe.

I did our taxes today. I'm bummed because our return is way smaller than it was last year :( It will be enough to pad our savings account a little and pay off our tiniest credit card balance, so it's going to help but man how I wish it was more :)

I'm always bummed when it's less than I think it should be. But then I do try to look on the bright side - atleast I don't owe!!

Just finished our taxes. Net refund of $3500! I say net refund because we always owe state taxes, my husband's out of state home office refuses to use our state's withholding table. We have to estimate every year and that's not easy to do when over 50% of his income is commission. :confused3

Going to put some into savings, and some on our CC debt. I'd love to say I'm going to put it into our trip fund, but we've got to keep our priorities straight. :thumbsup2

Congratulations!! I still have at least 3 weeks before my last documents will be in so i can do mine.

I will say that I plan to add some of it to my trip fund, though. I'm trying to get away from using CC's at all, so I'd rather pay them down a little slower and fund my trip than do what I've done in past years where I use my refund to pay off my cards just to turn around and charge them back up when I take my trip. I still feel that I'll be dumping debt, because I am training myself to only use my CC's for actual emergencies, not just because I'm out of cash at the moment.

I'm so inspired by everyone's accomplishments. We woefully underestimated some expenses last year (namely travel baseball). That coupled with an air conditioner that went out had us paying minimum on our debt. We are back on track to dump a lot of debt this year. We were able to pay off $1,000 this month already.

Way to go! $1000 is fantastic :thumbsup2

Wow! Great job!!!

I'm $300 away from paying off the first CC. I'd do it now but I need to save pennies for Disney at the end of Feb. Yes, I know we shouldn't be doing vacation while having debt but we are paying cash for the whole trip. And this is my trip for the 1/2 marathon, my first, so it's pretty special.

I hope to have that last $300 by mid March. Then it's on to card #2!

I've also decided in light of the Target, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Michael's breach, I am strictly going to cash. This is just getting ridiculous. We shop at all those stores except for NM.
I hope that going to cash, will force me to keep better track of my spending.

Great job!!! You will get there and dump that debt!

Good luck with your race! Sounds so exciting!!! I'm VERY slowly getting back into running. I need new shoes before I can take it seriously. Oh so jealous!!! Good luck!!!!

Great job to all who have paid off debt! Boo to those planning vacations-only cause I am super jealous and want to tag along! We have paid off two cards this month but I am frustrated it isn't going quicker. I have a terrible case of I want its and am wanting to buy stuff. Trying to be smart and use my miles and survey rewards to "buy" magazines and things so I feel like I am shopping.

"you shouldn't be going on vacation with debt"?
I am not so sure I agree anymore. I think life has to be about balance. I have swung so far each way over the years from not spending any money and being called the cheapest person on the earth to thinking what the heck do it. Balance is the key I have decided. We are also going away this year and probably should not. Goal is to pay cash but also to watch money and expenses while paying down debt. Life is no life without a little joy in it. I deal with people daily at the end of life and this is also the advice they give frequently (requested or not). Enjoy the race. I ran the 1/2 the year I turned 40 (midlife crisis I guess) I would not change that accomplishment for anything. It takes hard work bring your camera there are lots of characters and backlot pictures to take. People stop throughout the race. Just keep up the pace so you don't get picked up by the bus. They do make people not keeping up get on.

Just got done sitting down with the bills for this pay period! I'm making a grocery list and will be filling our envelopes.

I'm also submitting our taxes for this year so I'm making a prioritized list of what to do with the refund.

DH should find out what his annual bonus is this week. I'm excited to see how he did! :thumbsup2

That is great that you have paid off two cards this month!! Don't get discouraged.... It will take time to pay it off but will be worth it!!!! And I'm sure everyone else on here has had a case of the wants! I know I have

Good luck on your race. That is on my bucket list to do. I also agree about going to cash only for stores and resteraunts.

DH and I are going to make a plan this week on what to do with his income. He only works part time coaching soccer but he makes around $15k. We always make a plan for what to do with the money so we don't just blow it. It usually goes towards house repairs, vacations, and any other unexpected expense that may hit us. We know we will set aside $1k for small emergency fund, and we will use some to pay off 1 of the credit cards, set aside some for yard work and new back door, and some for mini vacation for him and I to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. He gets the money spreadh out from April to Sept. I looked at our Feb. budget and if "Murphy" stays away I can pay off the other card in Feb. It will be so great to have 1 card gone in Feb.
