Debt Dumpers - 2014

I just paid off my credit card!!!! I had plans to pay it off by February 6 so I'm 3 weeks ahead of schedule! Whoo hoo!!!!

My bonus check was WAY bigger than I estimated so I took the opportunity and ran with it. I originally thought about putting this on my car loan but now I can just add what I was going to pay on my cc to my car payment. That will save me a bit in interest.

I can also put away a bit towards the upcoming vacation. I bought our seat assignments this morning so we can sit together, $60 is well worth this in my eyes. We booked on southwest but it's an AirTran flight so we each get free bags which is nice.

I think I might celebrate tonight since it's just me and DS. I've got a gift card to Olive Garden or we can order a pizza. :) something small to celebrate a victory but you can bet I'll be dancing tonight!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! It feels so good to pay it off

Going to the credit union tomorrow to pay off my car. Woot woot!! I might not be able to sleep tonight! :cool1:

I just got that email from Target. I bought a car seat online from there in November but otherwise rarely order from them online, and we don't have a target where I live so no in store purchases. great.

Just got off the chat line with my cell-phone carrier. I had canceled one of the family lines on my account and talked them into refunding me 1 months bill. It means that the payment this month will be about $87 less than last month, and moving forward the bills will be about $40 less than I've been paying.

Every bit helps.

And, checked my bank account, got paid 3 days early this month!! :cool1: (Federal Holiday on the 20th of the month does that when the 20th is on a Monday. :)) I got a "raise" but not as much as I was expecting. I changed my insurance plan from the gold plan ($250 a month) to the bronze plan ($50 a month) and opened a HSA account ($100 a month). But I don't actually get that other $100, only about $70. Still, Every Bit Helps. :thumbsup2

Can I just say again how wonderful I find this group where I can come and talk about all things financial?

I'm in... A little late to the party because I wasn't sure about joining since debt isn't really my focus, but I see others here doing the same thing.

We have minimal debt (a few hundred dollars on one card, which usually gets paid off every month but has only gotten minimums in Dec and Jan) but Murphy took up residence in our house through the fall/winter and our emergency fund is in serious need of a boost. I'm having some pretty major motivational issues and a nagging case of the I-don't-wannas over some of the things that I know need to be done to get us back on track... namely postponing, AGAIN, our long-overdue adults-only Disney trip, the one that is still in my sig for this month, booked for March, and looking more and more like Sept with every new expense that pops up. I'm hoping sticking around here will help keep me focused on needs over wants. Maybe I can even pick up a few tips for funding that Sept trip to take some of the pressure off of the household accounts!

Good job everyone! Just keep swimming! :goodvibes

Sorry I sounded like such a crab earlier. Such a crazy day today. Seems like half my mail/email involved writing a letter or visiting a dr.'s office for paperwork/billing errors, making phones calls (which I can't do from work) and needing to get things straightened out. Usually things like that happen once in a while. Today it was like 4 things in 1 day. :faint:

It's always something.... or as dh says, "It just never (bleep)ing ends!"

:grouphug:

I agree this is a wonderful group. :) I don't get to post as much as I would like but I am reading every day and cheering you all on.

:banana::cool1::banana::cool1: Congratulations! That is awesome.

There were too many posts about the Target thing for me to quote. So from my understanding and what I have read on the Target site that customers that shopped in a Target store and used a Debit card, Credit Card or a form of Target Red Card were at risk. The initial information stated that card numbers, names of cardholders and the 3 digit number on the back were taken. Target then came out and confirmed that PIN numbers were also taken. Even more recently they stated that Online customers are now affected. That names, addresses and e-mail addresses were breached.

I shopped in a Target store twice during the time period of the breach. I used two different debit cards. One being my primary bank card and the other my child support debit card. At this time I have chosen not to have the cards replaced. Both my bank and the card I use for child support have put monitoring on the accounts.

I will sign up for the Target monitoring when I have time this weekend. :)

Has anyone else added up their monthly expenses after debt is paid off? I just did and I can't wait until all my debt is gone!!! I could go to Disney every 3-4 months!!!! Not realistically of course but I could easily swing a yearly trip much easier than if I had debt. It's so exciting to know that it isn't very far off!!!!

I just figured out my monthly expenses last night in fact and was discouraged that it's so tight! With YNAB, my goal is to not live paycheck to paycheck, but it's so hard to make the numbers work. Glad you have room for Disney trips! Vacations are the goal with our budget ! :)

I've definitely done it! After we pay off the car and the credit cards, we will have an extra grand a month. Which means 12k a year! Which would be a lot more exciting if we didn't have to pay catch up with retirement savings (luckily we're young-ish, but still have to think about it) and the car we're paying off has 175k miles on it, with 70 added a day... so it will need to be replaced... but still. A good feeling to see how much will be leftover after the debt is gone. The goal is to buy the next car in cash, even if it is a beater. Which is a lot easier to save for with an extra grand a month! :thumbsup2

I think after my debt is paid off I may need to take a celebratory trip to Disney. ;) Go all out, stay at my dream resort, the whole 9.

Today is payday! I got a little extra in my check (commission pay) that I threw into my emergency fund. I'm following DR's baby steps just to get me started for now. $1000 doesn't seem like a lot but having something to fall back on is better than having nothing!

I just signed up for the free credit monitoring from Target. Nothing has happened yet and DH's debit card expired so he has a new one now, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I also paid an extra $200 on our credit card this morning. It's a 5-check month for DH, which is going to help us recoup from holiday spending. May not be much but feels good.

And I have a "free" day off...my team reached an important milestone this week so our team leader gave us today off (and I already had Monday off). So happy!

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Wanting to stick my toe in. I am so overwhelmed with trying to make a budget and stick to it. I'm trying to talk dh into doing envelopes and cut out the CCs (we pay off every month but for a furniture one with no interest for 5 years).

I talk to Dh about trying to plan and budget and he shuts down and wont talk to me about it. (I am dying to get him to cut down on the cable bill which we have all the HBO/SHO/ MAX plus we have Netflicks and also AMZN Prime but I use it for a lot of regular household shopping.)

I pay the bills and he hands over his paycheck. Nice but I don't really know what I am doing for planning for our future. He shops less than I do but buys big things and he has no clue what we have in the bank/retirement etc...

This so sounds like my husband. He tries, I think, but he's absolutely clueless about our finances and spent a lot of years single with money to burn so he really struggles with sticking to the budget at times. He kills me with the "Its only $10" thinking, because he just doesn't see how $10 a couple times a week adds up!

There must be something special in rabbit poop because my one dog has not stopped being stupid :lmao:

This had me :rotfl: because we have two pet rabbits and our labs are still stupid with them even after almost a year. When the bunnies were young and not quite litter trained our younger dog would follow them around like they were treat dispensers. :scared:

I did that when we drained our savings to buy this house (paid cash). And although it hasn't panned out quite how I'd hoped - our income dropped so much that we couldn't have kept up with the mortgage if we'd stayed, so the move was well-timed - it gets me through tight times to sit back and think about the results we got the last time we really buckled down. Even two kids in private school don't add up to what we are no longer paying the bank every month!
