Debt Dumpers - 2014

I'm happy to report that I've set up $550 to pay down our Sears bill, we have about that much left to pay next month, then it's GONE! I can't wait for that happy dance! :cool1: In March, I start to seriously pay down the Discover bill, YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA!!!! :cheer2:

Congratulations to everyone making progress! I am staying on budget so far this month (no extra spending). I will be paying double the amount due on both credit cards this month to begin making a dent in the debt.

They are for long term investments with money you wouldn't be drawing out for say twenty-thirty years. When I was in my late twenties my company offered us a 401k I funded it to the Max purchasing just my companies stocks, (which is something I would never now advise anyone to do) later they started

I have been waiting until today to send my bills out for next month, I actually was able to pay my Amazon card with my rewards....:woohoo:

Starting to dump my Christmas Debt ASAP. :thumbsup2

Love being able to pay my card off with rewards!! I have a cc through my insurance company that I use since the rewards can go towards your statement, or even you auto or homeowners insurance.

That card sounds great, I'm still waiting on my other cards to post so I'll have two more cards to use the rewards next month. I really hadn't even thought about paying the bill with the rewards until this thread. so THANKS...

Great, this is the way to get rid of that debt.

Good Morning Everyone

I understand about being reluctant to invest in Mutual Funds and I would never recommend you do anything that makes you uncomfortable.

When I was in my late twenties my company offered us a 401k I funded it to the Max purchasing just my companies stocks, (which is something I would never now advise anyone to do) later they started offering other options with the Mutual Funds so I diversified keeping some investments in guaranteed interest and several Mutual Funds I was able to retire at 49 and have loved every minute. I know that every case is different but there are a lot of safe Funds available. While you are researching just check out your options.

Woo-hoo congratulations on this!! :cool1::cool1:

Congratulations on everyone making progress already this year!

Even though my DH lost a days pay, it will be the 3rd pay in January that affects which should be okay. He just found out what his next pay grossed and because of new years eve and new years day its a good one :thumbsup2 I only work 2 days/month so we don't really count on my pay... I'm going to make it a priority this year to NOT count my little paychecks into the budget and make sure they go entirely towards extra payments on my Jeep. Since I worked 8 hours on a holiday it will be better than I normally make. I'm hoping since this is the extra pay month I can pad some of my rainy day categories on YNAB. Car insurance is due in February and I want to put some money away towards our CSA this year ($425) I'm hoping this month to make my first extra payment towards the Jeep.

Last year I forgot to check our credit reports at all, so I did that yesterday and paid for our credit scores. We're doing good  It's helping me stay motivated!

Another unpaid day off tomorrow. Ugh. DH went back to work today so that helps. Thank goodness for emergency funds, but still......

So sorry that happened to you. :hugs: And I hear you that emergency funds are usable for emergencies, but doesn't it just bite to HAVE to use them?

I sold the remaining stock from my previous company on the 2nd and got the proceeds (not a lot, it was only 10 shares) today. I was able to apply $200 to the kids summer camp. That is the first thing to be paid off on our list. Hoping to have it all done no later than March! Then moving on to the Visa card.

A little background.... I was given the company shares as part of a management incentive. When I left the company to completely change careers I had already sold most of my shares but held onto 10 shares. I guess I could not completely separate myself, I had always thought it was my life-long career.

I have had the feeling that holding onto those shares has kept me from moving forward in some respects. Like I have always had one toe back in my "old life", so to speak. So I am hoping that breaking all ties will enable me to feel more free to really move on with life and to stop looking back. Here's to 2014.....!

I was able to pay extra on my car and now I'm under $4k!!! I didn't expect this until next month!!!! Whoo hoo!!!!

I'm excited to think I might be able to get rid of this payment soon! I will have to wait until tax time to figure that out but as soon as it's figured out I will do what needs to be done.

I'm also going to pay an extra payment on my credit card! Such motivation!!!!

I've also decided to do the 52 week savings challenge and use it for a future Disney trip. I'm hoping to sneak down this year or next year with just my DS or DS and my dad. Whoo hoo!!!!

I got my SO started on the 52 (53 for us) week saving challenge. After putting the money in the piggy bank, SO informed me that he would not guarantee that he wouldn't raid the banks. Or at least after the savings started to build up, that he didn't think he could resist the temptation.

And he's being honest, he's done it before.

Arrgghhh.

Why am I bothering trying when he (basically) admits he has few intentions of helping with this?

I can so relate. DH knows I am trying to get our debt paid down and save for trip to WDW in Dec but yet he was supposed to just get gas this morning and I noticed he bought other stuff at the Gas Station. He also took DD to buy bedding for her hamster - $20 later. It is bedding for a hamster I was thinking 5-10 max! I am the main provider for our family. He makes extra money March - Oct coaching soccer but that doesn't pay much. Some days I feel like this... :furious:

It does help though when I sit down with him each week and explain what I paid for the bills, groceries, gas and let him know where we stand with savings and expenses. I just need to remember to take the time to talk to him about it. I get so busy just taking care of the financials, working, kids, dog.. that I sometimes forget. I think I will do this tonight since I just got paid and paid a bunch of bills.

You need to find something your SO is willing to put an effort toward, right now all the living expenses, food, lodging are on you. SO can afford to tell you the truth because SO doesn't seem to care one way or the other. Remember when you posted that he said....

Me: Fine, gather the bags of cans and lets take and cash them in. Just remember, that is partly how we pay for Disney.
SO: I have faith that you'll find a way.

I think at this point SO is fine letting you find a way, as an adult the SO can take the money in the bank that they contributed but you stated banks meaning there may be thief of your saved money also. NO WAY IN :furious: Would anyone get away with that in my house...

Remember when I said maybe you need to start treating your SO more as a roommate bill wise, you can't afford to keep this emotional and financial roller coaster going on and on, you need to stop and worry about your financial responsibilities and independence.

There is a point where enabling someone is more harmful than helpful.

So keep saving your money but put your bank somewhere secure so no one else has access to it.

Your SO may still surprise you and follow though, I hope so.

Beckie
