Debt Dumpers - 2013

I so need to join you guys! We were doing really well last year paid off a ton of CC debt but then I lost my job in September and I didn't get a new job until end of January and sadly I had to charge living expenses, groceries, Christmas and son's birthday and I feel like we are drowning again. Don't get me wrong we are able to pay everything but I like keeping money rather than giving it away!!

Now, I do have a new career but I am commission based and I have potential to make good money I am just hoping and praying that it will all work out. I am hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

I know that I shouldn't be planning a Disney vacation but my kids and husband were so supportive last year and DH and I are having our 10 year anniversary this August so I am sitting aside cash to get this taken care of. Life is too short and the memories can't be replaced. But I will get debt paid off this year!!

I got a raise today!!! I'm really excited because my employer will retro pay me from January 1 so that little chunk of change will allow me to pay off my last cc a whole month early!

No new debts paid off but I'm making another payment to the last cc tomorrow.

DS needs new glasses so that's draining a lot of my cash this month. I'm also thinking about joining weight watchers again since I benefit from it but I hate to spend the money when I'm making good progress on my debt.

Congrats!!!

There is a current deal going on right now on WW online for 3 months for like $50 something and no enrollment fee (I think). My sister and my mom just joined.

Also, I find Mint.com is a great way to budget and keep track of all my finances. It takes a bit of time to set up all your accounts but once that is done it is pretty self-managing.

I sign in to mint.com everyday. Love the site...when it works!

You guys are all doing great :thumbsup2

To the poster about joining weightwatchers, I joined weightwatchers 5 years ago, and after going for about 7 months, I stopped and did the plan on my own. I actually tweaked it and I have lost 113lbs and kept it off for almost 3 years now! I am very glad that I joined though to get the hang of things.

I wish!!! I have one last cc to pay off which I will get paid off next month if all goes according to plan. Then I will attack the medical debt with those cc payments and I plan to pay off my car next year. After next year I will have student loans left and will have one paid off by 2016 but my sallie Mae loans won't be gone for a while. I'm far from debt free but every day I'm a step closer and this thread is a huge influence!

Thanks everyone!

You are doing a fantastic job! Next month you will be able to say your cc debt free :thumbsup2

So this is how committed I am ....

This morning I had the opportunity to book THE ABSOLUTE BEST CAMPING SPOT EVER! lol You have to book 5 months out and people get online at 7am to get them. (Crazy campers - like Dis'ers). Anyhoo, it was mine ... right in the palm of my hand, after years of looking longingly at the lucky ones who got it, as we walked back to our least primo spot.

Anyways, long story short, we don't have any extra cash this payday to pay for it, so it would have had to go on the credit card. So I put extra on our debt instead.

I'll enjoy my cash only spot just as much later on. Right??

Just paid cash for our upcoming Disney tickets AND got 10.5% back through Ebates. That $197.04 will go to debt! Woot for free money!

How do you do this? I guess I really just don't understand hoe ebates work? You bought the tickets from where, and ebates sent you 10% of the ticket price back? I need to do this, i really want to have our tickets paid for before we go January 2014, rack rate for us 1454 for just tickets! any advice would be greatly appreciated!:thumbsup2

Waving hello!

I'm reading along with all of your tips and ideas - love it! We're a family of 3 (with a baby on the way!) in BC Canada. Our first Disney World trip is May 20-25 this year! Thankfully my mom is largely funding it (we're traveling along with her and my adult brother & his girlfriend)

My husband works from home and I focus on taking care of our daughter (while picking up odd jobs here and there) so our finances are tight. We love being together though, so it's worth scrounging a bit here and there! :grouphug:

Currently I'm working on getting up to $1000 in emergency savings (we're at about $400 right now) and then I'll attack that Visa card debt ($2000). When that's gone, then it's back to more savings. I'd really like to have $5000 in there... that'll take a while!

Really enjoying all the tips! And it's nice to see some families who are doing better at this than I am. It's great inspiration!

Good for you. I'm sure you'll still have a great time and probably even better knowing your thismuch closer to being debt free. :thumbsup2

Great job! :thumbsup2 What company did you buy from. I looked for undercover tourist but didn't see them. Thanks

Hello all - I'm a lurker of this thread. I've found this very interesting to read and just want to say :cool1::cool1:way to go everyone! I love reading the success stories!

I'm still here and still plugging away.
Won't have any big surplus of money until I file our taxes so I'm just adding $5 and $10 here and there towards the debt.

I do want to redo my own up to your debt worksheet though because there are some significant changes to it now. I looked at my car payment and noticed that 80% of it is now going to the principal and only 20% is going to interest so that is shrinking a lot!

Have you looked at My Fitness Pal? It's an app and a website and it's free. You just log your weight, and you use their database to log your food and exercise.

You can add friends too.

This made me laugh. I see you are in Canada. Well, last year I tried to book a camping spot in Kelowna. They open reservations in Feb I think, I tried calling and calling and calling all day and could not get through. I heard that if you don't get through on the first day chances are they are booked for the summer. It just reminded me of this time last year.
Camping will feel so much better when you know you have paid for it prior to going, when you won't owe towards that camping spot when you get home and putting stuff away. We've done it the other way too, where we have put the camping spots on the cc. I'm telling you it is so much more rewarding doing it the right way. It may be hard now because you won't get to go as often, or get that primo spot, but pay off those "other campin trips" now and then you can pick any spot and time you want to go. :goodvibes
I commend you for giving up something now to better yourselves later, it is hard to do. I know, I've been there. Keep going!

Oh and if you do decide to still go, and you are at the back of the camping area in the "not as nice spots", as you walk past those prime spots you can rest assured that not everyone there paid cash for those spots. I guarantee some, probably more than you think, didn't have the cash to reserve it at the time, but they had to have that spot and so "they" put it on their cc. So pat yourself on the back as you walk by those spots and know next summer you will be closer to those better spots if not actually in them. :)
