I spend quite a bit on fresh produce only for it to go bad. Mainly I get carrots, lettuce, spinach, strawberries, grapes, and green beans. I like to buy a weeks worth so I don't have to keep going to the grocery store but often they go bad before the week is up. I saw the Debbie Meyer Green Bags in this week's Target ad and was wondering if they will really keep my produce fresh? Does anyone use them? You get 20 bags for $9.

They also have 12 bags for bread. This is another staple that I buy that often gets moldy if I don't use it fast enough.

So, what do you all think?

HATE them! I tried these for my fruits and vegetables. They work ok for vegetables, but do not work at all for my fruits. My bananas looked worse after a few days in the green bag than the ones just sitting out on the counter.

waste of money.

Everyone I know that has tried them, has loved them. Haven't tried them myself.

I've tried them and I love them.

You should NOT wash the food before you put them in the bag though. That is really important.

It adds another 4-9 days to my produce!

Wow, I was curious about these too. I just picked some up from Walmart the other day but haven't used them yet.

I totally agree about the bananas!
Plus my mom used them for strawberries...the berries looked great ...but were spoiled & not edible.

just curious, i know these are made to be put in the fridge, did you put you bananas in the fridge? because if you did it would be the reason it didnt work. you should never get your bananas cold.
if you left them on the counter in the bags, thats odd that they would go quicker.

I have only used them on bananas and they have made them last at least 4 days longer than just leaving them out on the counter. You do have to remember to remove the moisture that forms inside. I take them out every other day and dry them and put them back in. I love them just for that.

You're right, Bananas should never, ever go in the refrigerator.

Bananas produce lots of ethylene gas, which speeds up the ripening process. Putting bananas in any kind of bag will give you black bananas in no time.

I LOVE them! They work really well for spinch! Bananas not so great. Great for apples, oranges, carrots, lettuce, grapes, strawberries. I have saved tons of money from these bags!

Do you reuse them? I've got them and I really don't want to have to throw them away after one use. I like them for lettuce.

Does anyone have any other methods for keeping produce and bread fresh longer? I just threw out about 2 dozen green beans this morning and I really hate doing that. Our guinea pigs get green beans and spinach every morning but the beans weren't even good enough to feed them.

Stuff seems to last a little longer, but if left for a long time fruit still looks good on the outside but the inside seems to continue to age. I had some banannas that looked great but the inside was mush, same with a peach.

My bananas (not refridgerated) did not last any longer in these bags...not sure if they did worse in them, but definitely didn't improve anything either.
