How horrible is it to borrow Bootleg DVDs?

A friend of mine buys them. DS wanted to see "I Robot" which isn't in the theatres here anymore. Today I went to visit her and she had a bootleg DVD of I, Robot and I borrowed it. Would you borrow a bootleg DVD?

Although (admittedly) I would be very tempted...I wouldn't...my husband would kill me!...really...

No, I would not. It's wrong. The people who act, produce, edit them, etc., deserve to be paid for their efforts.

I have borrowed them, but never made them. I justify my actions by always putting my shopping cart back in the corral.....:teeth:

my husband says you will go to hell if you do. :D

If no studio release version existed, I'd borrow one , esp. if I had the intent of buying/renting it once it came out for real.

Case in point. I once got a bootleg DVD of the Last Unicorn because it was not available for a loooooong time. At that point in time, I did not have any reason to think a real dvd would ever come out of this movie.

3 months later, the real studio release dvd of the movie came out, I bought not only one but THREE copies of it (one for me, one for my cousins DD, and one for my mom) and tossed out the bootleg.

Yeah, but only if it is a blockbuster. I just don't see God turning people away for 'borrowing' abootleg copy of "Ernest Goes to Hollywood"...(although He may ask the person who copied it...WHY???)

My DD's boyfriend buys them all the time. He pays $25 for 5 of them! I saw Farenheit 911, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Anchorman, DodgeBall, and Big Fish three days after they came out to the theaters.

But what if it's a movie that is long out of print on VHS, and very hard to come by even secondhand or to rent, and the studio has not released it on DVD because there is not enough of a market for it, but it's your favorite movie of all time?

Normally I'd agree with you. If you can get a movie through normal means and pay for it, I think you should always do that. But sometimes, certain movies just are not available through legit means and the only ones who seem to recognize that there is a market are the bootleggers.

Maybe those who are more savvy in the ways of finding obscure movies on dvd have more ideas. I'm not that savvy, and I'll tell ya, after finally finding The Last Unicorn on dvd after looking for it for years, I did not care WHO put the dvd out. The studio released it several months later and I bought it the "real" way when they did. But, had they never released it, I wouldn't have felt that bad about buying the bootleg.

What about bootleg liqour? DDad always seems to have a friend of a friend of a friend that makes their own moonshine - it's a great ice breaker @ Christmas parties, etc. - sshhhh!!! Don't tell Barney (or Otis for that matter:p )

Like, say, um. . . Song of the South?

Well, I don't know where you would buy bootleg videos. I buy mine in retail stores or I use what I feel are reputable internet sites.

Maybe I'm naive, but I believe most internet outlets are legit. I only use one that's pretty well known, so I guess it's ok.

KristaTX,

Song of the South? Where? I don't have one!! Huh?!? What? Where? I don't know how that got there:confused3

:rolleyes1

I would not buy or borrow a bootleg of a recent "blockbuster" that was either in theaters, or soon to be released on DVD. I don't see why anyone would need to do that, if they could just go to the movies, or knew the DVD would be out in a matter of weeks or so.

The place where I got TLU on a bootleg DVD is a huge comic book/ collectibles store. I'm surprised that they sell as many as they do, but they have them right out on the shelves. However, they ONLY carry bootlegs of older animated/fantasy movies that are not available anywhere on VHS or DVD.

I have seen people at flea markets selling movies that are out in theaters now. That, IMO, is wrong.
