Debate-Bootleg DVDs

Well speaking of books Dmadman we can go to our public library and grab a book from the shelf and use the supplied by the library photocopier to copy it the entire thing if we wish so again bad analogy. So for those that wish come on over to Canada go to the public library sit your butt down bring a USB storage device and download to your hearts content LOL.

I knew there was a reason a lot of your artists choose to make their living in the US. :smooth:

having worked in the Film and television industry....I know that the people suposedly "victimized" by bootleggers are certainly not getting such a raw deal...so I dont really feel bad for them.

Do you feel your auto mechanic makes too much and thus choose not to pay him? I mean, by whose standards are they "not getting a raw deal"?

And it wont honestly affect DVD prices unless its happening at an incredibly high rate (which it's not)...unfortunatly..the people running the movie industry are much more immoral than people who would use a bootleg....because they will use any excuse (justified or not..) to up the prices we pay...i know this for a fact...I've sat in on the meetings....its all about the almighty dollar...

You say that as if it were a bad thing. Again, why is it for us to decide if these people deserve the money or not?

:o I admit it, I bought a copy of SotS in England and had a friend convert it to American VHS. But it's not illegal if I actually purchased the English version, right?

No, it's not illegal to buy a copy of a movie from another country if it is a legal copy. I brought my British version of SotS to a video comoany (wedding videos, etc) they had no problem doing the conversion as long as I had a receipt for purchase. They would, however, only make one copy for my personal use. I wanted to get a second copy, but no dice.

To answer the original question -- I personally have a problem with bootleg DVD's. I would not buy or borrow them. I know many people disagree, but I feel it is stealing.

I also have a problem with illegally spliced cable TV, descrambler boxes, and people going from movie to movie in the multiplex.

Oh well, call me naive, but I won't buy or watch bootlegs.

As I stated dmadman EA builds in a larger margin to the price of the software to offset the cost of what does end up pirated. They calculate this and take it into consideration when they create any software. That is why you do not see the software industry crying foul over it. Not like the supid music industry. One group in particular that has a problem with it was Our Lady Peace mind you during the interview the lead singer stated that he does this all the time rather than buying the music so double standard I think so. I think I probably burn about 1000 cd's a year just for x mas presents and that is software and music combined.

Never seen a bootleg movie and never will. If you want to see the movie, do it legitimately. If it costs too much, then don't see it.

ahhhh, the old bootleg debate.

I don't do bootlegs of movies that come out in theatres, most of them are too blurry or messed up for me. I myself burn copies of DVD's I rent that I like. My last burned copy? The Passion of the Christ

The irony is that I have ended up buying every DVD of movies I originally saw on a 'bootleg copy', with the exception of one...X men..

*gasp* Seriously? Why not? XMen is a GREAT movie! :p

By the way, many times, if a book has a stripped cover, the publisher does not get $$ for it, so it would be considered stealing. That's printed right in the front: "If this book is coverless, it may have been reported to the publisher as unsold or destroyed, and neither the publisher nor the author may received payment for it."
