Dear Santa,
I know you are busy getting ready for the big night and all but I have a request. Can those elves of your figure out how to make some toys that don't take 36 batteries to work?
Thanks!
MHM

Seriously! I think I have to buy about 60 batteries this year! I am not even kidding! Why can we green everything else but toys need a bazillion batteries to make a squeak. For goodness sake we can run cars on corn oil! :sad2:

Based on what's going on in the world I just feel blessed that we are able to buy presents.
If batteries are the worst thing happening to you this holiday you should be joyful.
Happy Holidays...

I hear ya. I went and bought a whole bunch of rechargeables this year. I think I need one or two more packs of AAAs in the long run so they have some to use and some to charge, but for now I have enough batteries to run everything, and I won't have to buy more all the time. :thumbsup2

CVS was my battery friend this year. I received over 100 Duracells free after Extra Bucks back in November for the sole purpose of Christmas toys.

Hmmmm . . . are any of these "adult" XXXmas toys that need batteries . . . .;) :lmao: :lovestruc :goodvibes :woohoo: :yay: :rolleyes1 :cool2:

Trust me, nobody knows that more than I do. It was a light hearted thread. I am more joyful and thankful than you could ever imagine. Thanks though.

PS....while you are speaking to the elves about the batteries, could you suggest that they maybe find an easier package system? The toys that come in the plastic built to withstand a nuclear blast are nice, but they can't be brought out of the plastic casing.

OMGosh you are so right!:rotfl: One year I thought I was going to need a brace to recover my hands from all those twisty things! Who on earth puts that stuff together?!:headache:

When I was scouring the "as seen on TV" shelves of my local CVS for my Grandma's Xmas present [she SERIOUSLY loves those things, so please do not think I am being mean], I saw they have a blade/cutter for opening those plastic packages. Maybe you can ask Santa to leave you one of those ;) so you can help the kiddies open the packages.

Me too! I have a whole bin of Duracell's from CVS, enought to last for years! We purposely tried to buy toys that required minimal batteries this year. The Fisher Price Imaginext line is great and most of the toys do not need batteries!

I love that kiosk at the mall!:rolleyes1
I may have to look for that thing. I swear we spend half the day trying to get the toys out of the package. I think maybe I will tell the kids that the cardboard is part of the toy and you have to play with it in the box.:rotfl:
To be honest I have a pair of scissors from Pampered Chef and they cut right through those plastic twisty things.

C'mon MHM, you know it's not an official DIS thread without a little holier than thou finger wagging!! ;)

Enjoy your holidays!!

I really dont think she was griping at all I think it was suppose to be a fun thread.
Where is everyones sense of humor?
I know better than anyone about being glad we could even afford Christmas presents this year. I lost my job at the end of October because of how bad the economy is:sad2:

I tallied up the batteries I'll need for Christmas--53 AAs. 14 of those are for my nephew's present but the rest are all mine.

I hope everyone has a wonderful time opening, building, setting up all the presents. :santa:

I went on battery strike this year. If any gift has to have more than 4 of any battery it was put back on the shelf and we moved on.

We have a bin of rechargeables so I did the math and based on what we have no present can have more than a 4 battery limit. I hope it works.

I'm also asking for toys that need batteries have screws that fit a normal screwdriver and not a pint size one fit for the elves at the N. Pole. Nothing more annoying than needing a bitty bitty sized phillips screwdriver and not having one and having to pinch hit with common household items.

Dude, I work in a homeless non-profit and I can see the humor in which this thread was intended.

Christmas + toys = buttloads of batteries

I have no idea how many batteries we'll need this year..I know we'll need at least 4 AAs for DS's Leapster2, but since they bought it I'm betting DMIL will provide at least the first 4. All the stuff that DH and I bought for DS does not require batteries--Matchbox/diecast cars and clothes. :)

I saw on Amazon that they now sell "hassle free" packaging:thumbsup2
