Dear Lord, employee using dirty mop to clean tables at AOA after mopping floors!

Disgusting. And certainly made me rethink our habit of unloading our trays onto the table before we eat. From now on the plates stay on the trays.

Spin off question- who cleans the trays?

I worked at Kings Dominion for many years. We washed our trays in a large sink then dried them the best we could before returning them for guests to use. I would highly recommend not eating anything directly off of a tray (like french fries often fall onto them). We did the best we could, but I still think it was yucky.

Every time we stay at Disney we wipe down the door handles, phone, table toilet/sink in our room with sanitary towelettes. We are not germophobes but its hard telling what's been cleaned. It takes a couple minutes and it makes us feel better even if it doesn't help much.

As disgusting as this is, is it really any different then cleaning with a towel that they have been going from table to table cleaning with. Just because they spray cleaner on the table before using the same towel does not help at all. I saw a segment on a show where they went to a theme park to test for levels of bacteria and they tested rides and bathrooms etc. The most bacteria was found on the food trays:(

Yep, I use a ton of Lysol wipes at Disney. When I show this to DH maybe he'll stop thinking it's over kill to wipe down a "clean" table :sad2:

Don't forget the tv remote. I wipe down things in any hotel room we stay in. I also don't use the coffee maker in the room. Imagine the mold growth in where you put the water and then close the top. I have read many things people do with those in room coffee makers. Never do I use the glasses or the coffee mugs. Have you ever seen any new ones on the housekeeping carts? If they are there I've never seen them.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who carries Lysol/Clorox wipe while traveling. :rolleyes1Maybe I'm crazy with little germs left by thousands of people but I tend to clean with those wipes once we get into our room and also the table tops.

However, Disney's initial reaction to that lazy woman is disappointing.

Yikes. Isn't it more difficult to clean tables with a mop than a towel?!

That's what I was thinking!

Such a shame when people don't care about others and just rush through a job this way. We always put napkins down for the kids underneath their plates because they aren't good about keeping they're food on the plates. If the food touches the tables, they don't eat it.

Something like this can happen anywhere. The fact that is was Disney is disturbing because they make it a point to stress how customers come first and that CMs are dedicated to providing nothing but the best services and cleanest restaurants. With that said, if the story is true and the third party worker was fired or banned from working at Disney then what more can they do? There will always be workers who are not concerned about doing a good job but that doesn't mean the other 99% of workers aren't doing their best.

The only thing I would add is I feel the supervisor of training is the one who needs to be fired, not so much the worker, she needs retraining!

AKK

I was disturbed a touch the first time I read this but then I just saw a report on Trip Advisor about a housekeeper cleaning a shower at Beach Club with a brush the occupant had just seen them use to clean the room's toilet! Is it accurate? I cannot say but I don't see why someone would make it up. Once is a fluke of bad housekeeping practices twice is a problem. It's not going to stop me from staying onsite (honestly I am happy in my ignorance of hotel cleaning practices and try not to think about these things beyond checking for signs of bed bugs) but it is disturbing nonetheless.

In large facilities, I've seen large conveyer-belt systems where trays are run through a high temperature wash and sanitation. But at many fast food restaurants, the workers pick up the trays from the trash can, loosely towel off any visible food, and put it back into circulation. Definitely agree that food should never be eaten off the tray. Unless you believe what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.

Harsh reality - some people are just lazy slobs with no regard for others. They are all around us. This neither surprises nor disturbs me. I sort of expect this kind of thing. It is a shame that people are this way, but I am not sure how any company can completely protect themselves from people like this.

I'm confused. According to the article they fired the woman as soon they were told of the issue. What else could they have done? Put her in the stocks in mk?

I think Disney also said that this was an isolated incident and saying the woman was hired by a vendor. Sounded like they were making excuses (just my read on it)

This may be where she may have picked up some of her training. Uh...she may have feel asleep during some of it. :scratchin:faint:
