I was just surfing the various pages on the disboard and came across a flurry of activity on the resorts board. Apparently the passholder rates came out today that allow booking through the holidays. Although I'm an airline employee and can get the same discount as Disney employees, you still have to hope the availability exists. THANK GOODNESS FOR DVC! I've had my Christmas reservations at BCV since January, and it's a good thing because I'd be nuts if I had to wait until now to do it!

I know what you are saying b/c we are going over xmas b/c we dont close on SSR until March 05. ut I can say many of those people have hada ressies for awhile but just wait for the AP discounts to come out and get a better deal. Heck over Xmas we got AKL Sav. view for $151 since we are checking in during Value season.

trampslady is absolutely right!

I took a few minutes to check the Resort board and saw the many different AP Rate threads: "AP Rates out", "Did you get an AP Rate?", "No AP Rates at Resort X", etc. And some of the posts are rather unhappy. One person - who'd been waiting for AP Rates for months - got an email this morning, waited on hold for a long time before being dropped, called again but cell battery died, then finally got through only to find out there were no rooms at the resort where she already had a rack rate reservation. Another tried to use a code that required a Disney Visa - which she had - but after doing the dial.up.and.wait routine, found out that she also needed a pin number - that she didn't have.

All of you who are figuring break-even points - and using discounts off rack rates as your alternative cost - should try to take this stress into account. Yes, we have the 11 / 7 month windows, but if you read some of the gyrations that folks are going through to get these discounts - with some not getting them at all - doing a day.by.day with MS is a pretty nice DVC benefit.

ITA!!
I was also on the Resorts board this morning and just reading all that drama gave me a headache! The lines kept disconnecting after lengthy holds. Blackout dates, dates not available, etc. I love a bargain too, so that would easily be me.

I think this exemplifies the fact that yes AP/Visa rates are available but even when offered, you may not have the "fastest finger" or the right dates.

Although well worth it, the process is extremely time consuming.

It reminds me of the time, I lined up with my best friend at Filene's Basement to get a $99 wedding dress. It was crazy and I swore never again! LOL

This is absolutely one of our FAVORITE things about owning DVC -- none of that "can I get the best rate" stress!!! :teeth:

That is too funny. They show that on the news every year and I just shake my head and laugh. I would have a better chance of surviving in a lion's den wearing a meat-suit

This issue propelled me to Mousesavers.com which in turn caused me to learn about DVC back in March when I was trying to plan our October trip! I was able to make our ressies for OKW at the end of April instead of waiting for the codes :earsgirl: :teeth:

I am sooooo glad to be here on the Disboards too::yes::

Have a Disney day,
Lisa:sunny:

I agree. We decided to see if we could get a room in early December. There were no studios or one bedrooms available anywhere in DVC. I was waitlisted, but we were going to go anyway so I almost had to do the "book and hope for codes" thing.

Luckilly I ended up with a one bedroom at BWV and I can sit back and watch others scramble and worry about getting a better price. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that.
