Dear Future Me,

Here are some helpful hints on making a reservation with borrowed points:

1. Always double check the dates when making a reservation with borrowed points
2. Scrutinize the dates before you click the borrow button bc those points stay in your account, even if you don't complete the reservation and release it to rebook
3. Check those dates with a microscope if said reservation is for a CCV cabin at 7 months because chances are the reservation will be gone when you try to rebook it
4. Send flowers and your first born child to the Members Services person who put the borrowed points back

Glad they were able to help you out, especially when its such a large point booking. DVC can be so complicated to book.

If you don’t complete the reservation, borrowed points should not stay borrowed.

Once booked, it gives you a note before you leave the page to cancel without penalty in case.

We’ll, it did and if the points didn’t return and you didn’t actually book, then it’s another fail of the updates they did.

That's what I thought too, but the borrowed points did not return when I released & did not complete the reservation. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I'd been able to actually make the reservation with the correct dates but that 7 month CCV cabin just slipped through my fingers.

Member services told me that the points don't return, even if you don't complete the reservation and she would return the points "this one time".

Well, I know they do because I did it last week before I came on the cruise!!!! lol

Sorry your account is not working but glad she fixed it!!

Same thing happened to me, although I had another reservation with bankable points that I just "swapped" the points with to resolve. Something went kerflooey with that last update they did, it didn't used to borrow the points until you completed the reservation.

These types of things should not be implemented without notice. I hope its an error on the site they didnt know about

This also happened to me with borrowed points not being returned on an incomplete reservation, but a different situation a few months ago (well before the recent update).

All was going well, I indicated I was borrowing some points to complete the booking, and then got the dwarfs on the final page which was supposed to confirm the reservation. Dashboard did not show a confirmation, and no designated current year points were used, but the designated borrowed points were now borrowed and showing as available in the prior year.

MS was able to reverse after a quick explanation.

It's easy to make a mistake on the site for sure. I had a major scare recently too when I almost completely ruined our 7 month October trip bookings for this year recently by trying to go in to "modify" them to make sure all our banked points were being used and to try and save as many of our BWV and RIV points as possible.

There's 9 of us and I splurged for BWV Grand Villa then transferring to BLT Grand Villa. I had BWV for 3 nights then Preferred view for 3 nights at BLT.

Somehow when modifying the stays I apparently selected the Theme Park view for BLT, which ONLY HAD THE LAST 2 of the 3 nights. I did this over a week ago and only noticed recently when I was updating the names on the stays to include everyone since it was time to order our MNSSHP tickets. I noticed that the checkout day at BWV was NOT the same as the check in day at BLT and started freaking out. And of course the days I accidentally dropped in the premium view were gone and that first day was still not available in theme park view either. I almost had to switch to SSR or Kidani or just try to a 2br somewhere or multiple studios

Luckily the first night of the second half of the trip WAS available at BWV, so I quickly modified the 3 nights to 4. And now I have a 4/2 split stay and ended up spending slightly more points (the BLT theme park view was more, but the extra night at BWV was cheaper than either view at BLT).

But we had to change our party day plans because we are switching rooms ON Halloween now when we planned to go to the party. And I don't want to risk not having our bags before 4 when we go to the party, otherwise we will be returning from the party after midnight with no bags :(

So we are going to the party on the 30th while we are still at BWV and will have to bus back instead of walk back to BLT. Still kicking myself over it

So were you actually modifying or just going through the process to check which points were being used then backing out?

Adjusting the contracts to make sure BWV and RIV were selected last and to make sure it used up any banked and borrowed points I had left on any contract.

I had been checking and backing out occasionally to check what other GVs were available, but I obviously didn't back out this time so it must have been when I was adjusting the contract selection lol
