Deals on Hotels, When to Book, etc.

I am planning next summer's vacation in WDW. Based on prior experience I know that booking earlier is helpful. In 2003 I tried to get a room in The Coronado and was told it was full...

This year I plan to reserve two adjacent rooms in the Coronado for 4/8 days and one room in the Polynesian for 4 (we have friends staying 8 days at Coronado, we do 4 and then hop to the Polynesian).

I noticed that most of the coupon deals are within 1-3 months of the time you plan to stay. Should I wait it out for both hotels or book one now and wait on the Poly? I do have a building of the Poly in mind as well.

The last two trips to WDW were spontaneous with little planning, this time I want to do a great deal more advance legwork...

What I do is book my hotel when I know where we want to stay, no matter what the rate. Then when codes or specials come out I call back & ask them to apply the code to my existing ressie.

Check www.mousesavers.com daily for codes that come out. They usually come out a few months before they can be applied.

Wow...that sounds fantastic. It is really that simple? You don't ever get a "I'm sorry sir we cannot apply codes to existing reservations"? If this is true then I'm a happy camper indeed...

If there are rooms still available with the code they will apply it to your reservation. Check mousesavers daily. As soon as you see a code come out for your date call CRO immediately.

We did have to be a little flexible last year. I had a room booked at the BC at rack rate - standard view. Codes came out. I called & all they had available was a water view room at the YC. It was more than I had anticipated it being with a code, but less than the BC at rack rate so I took it. Turns out we had a great room, a great view & enjoyed the YC more than the BC. I now have the YC booked in Nov. & am hoping for codes.
