Dealing with thunderstorms

We are leaving in several hours for our vacation. The weather forcast is calling for severe thunderstorms. How much of a "damper" not meaning a pun on words. LOL will this put on our trip? Even for Easter Sunday. I was a bit nervous about the crowds now the weather appears to want to join in the fun. Rain I can handle, but thunderstorms most likely will ruin quite a few plans. Right?

Thunderstorms are generally not hours long.
When you see the dark clouds looming ... just
duck into some indoor attraction, and you will be safe. You might have to quickly alter your schedule by ducking into a place where you didn't want to be yet, but I can't see that as being a major problem - unless of course, you missed a PS.

Thunderstorms make keep the crowds away. As long as you can stay reasonably dry with ponchos or rain gear, there is no reason you can't have fun at the parks. And if you have strollers, make sure to cover them even if it doesn't look like rain. You can walk into an attraction and come out 20 minutes later with everything drenched.

Thank you. Never thought of that. Don't have time to buy some ponchos wish I had thought of that. Guess we will have to pack the umbrellas. My daughters are 24, and 10 so luckly I don't have to worry about strollers anymore. Wew, just a few more hours!!

Don't forget to take extra shoes that are comfortable in the parks! We have stayed through rain, thunderstorms, and the beginning of a hurricane (we didn't realize how bad it was until they told us they were evacuating Ft. Wilderness, where we were staying in the cabins! Talk about swept up in the magic!) and the only thing we regretted was having to put on damp shoes the next day...and the next...

The one thing that we've experienced with thunderstorms at Disney is the fieriness of the electrical part. My suggestions is to make sure that you are in a building when one of these babies hits. We always go durning the summer and that's when these storms are very dangerous. Sever close lighting and strikes close together is the order of the day when one rolls through. After a storm goes through the humidity left behind just makes you wilt. The storms usually last for only 30 minutes or so.

We prefer the Disney ponchos in the rain. They are heavier. If they rip Disney will replace them.

I just checked the Orlando forecast - 40% chance of rain today through Sunday, and thunderstorms predicted to be scattered. You probably will get some rain, but shouldn't last too long, and may just get the rain without the thunderstorms. If you do have lightning, however, get inside. As another poster said, it is very fierce in Florida.

Thank you everyone for your responses. We are back from our trip and I was worrying over nothing. During our entire trip it rained once and lasted for about 45 minutes. We hid in a shop and looked around. You sure were right though about the humidity though, Snow Shoe. Wew. Afterwards it was hot hot hot. Didn't ruin our day though just drank more water and trekked on. Looked like drowned rats, but still had a great day. LOL
It started pouring while we were in the bathroom which wasn't near anything fun. We darted out into the rain and ran to the nearest store cause we didn't want to stand in the bathroom for who knows how long. I figured it is only water, no big deal we will dry out. LOL :flower:
