Deaf Man Says Disney Won't Hire Him, Court Won't Help

The company I work for is much smaller than Disney and we have to document every case that we did not hire someone.

We have a database of every person who applied for a job. We have to maintain a file on who we hired. We have to document and be audited on how many minorities and people with disabilites we interviewed and hired did not hire.

I can't believe that Disney is not subject to the same audits on a much larger scale. They probably have an entire department to deal with recording who did not get hired and why. There is probably a lot more to the story than Disney won't hire deaf people.

Disney has a ton of deaf people on the payroll.....

I smell a rat!

It couldn't possibly be in this market, Disney, like another other employer, has a much larger pool of qualified people to pick from and his qualifications were weaker then the rest of the applicants.

So wait, he wanted to be a housekeeper? Do you not need to have hearing, as you knock on guests' doors and have to hear a response in case someone is in the room?

I could see Disney not hiring him for something that requires hearing, but for them to turn him down with all the other cast members that are hired with disabilities, I would say there was something else they saw that prevented this

There is a deaf CM that works the cash register at the shop right outside of HM.. hrmm...

There's a hearing impaired CM who works over in the cabins at Ft. Wilderness. He's in housekeeping. Very nice man and he manages just fine. He carries a pen and paper and communicates that way.

It is very easy for anyone to say "they wouldn't hire me because of my disability", but it is very difficult to prove it. Unfortunately the American media doesn't care to get the whole story or do their own research, but rather just put partial or sometimes false information out there to get readers/web site hits. It was the same with the employee who was fired because of her home monitoring bracelet for "a traffic infraction", but just 20 minutes of research that I did showed that she had multiple convictions and a DUI. She was terminated after she was found guilty and had a record (and was put on probation).
