DD's School Closed Due to Swine Flu but NO student has the flu??

This is just getting more and more bizarre! DD's High School was closed today because a child was in New Jersey and roomed with a girl who now has a confirmed case of Swine Flu. The girl at DD's school does NOT have any symptoms.

If this flu is really as "mild" as the government keeps saying, then WTH is going on? Why the panic? Why the weirdness?

If you want to take extra precautions (not saying I agree with it) but why not make the girl stay home that roomed with the infected person? Why does the entire school need to close?

That's what I understood as well. Not only that, there are NO cases. Just one girl that was exposed. Now I do understand that the girl who she roomed with at the tournament is now hospitalized
And I do understand them wanting to be careful. I guess since the school was going to be closed Friday, Sat and Sunday that they just added one day to be extra, super vigilant. I'm not at all angry that they are being cautious with our children, I'm just wondering why such a big deal is being made of this when the government keeps telling us it's no big deal. OK, I just re-read that and it doesn't really make sense, but you know what I mean

we continue to have new cases confirmed here every couple days, but no school closings.

That'sweird. I got a call today from the school district I will be teaching for (one of those automated calls) to say that there is one confirmed case of Swine Flu in one of the elementary schools. They are not closing the schools as far as I know.

I must admit, when I got a call from the district office I just about had a heart attack. I thought they were going to tell me that there was an issue with my transcripts and revoke my contract! Glad that's not what it was (but sad that a child is sick).
