DD's green anole won't eat...help!

DD has a green anole (a little lizard.) I don't think he's eaten any crickets for 3 or 4 days. He looks pretty thin and is half brown/half green. Now there are little white specks on what I think are his nostrils.

Is there any hope? DH won't think of taking a $7 pet to the vet. DD's birthday is Tuesday and I'm terrified that the poor thing will die on her birthday. I lay awake worrying about the little guy, so if anyone thinks a vet could help, I'll tick off DH and take him. Anybody know anything about anoles?

The most common symptom of ill health in Green Anoles is a lack of color change. Green Anoles can only turn bright green when they are receiving a proper balance of nutrients. Malnourished Green Anoles will tend to remain dark brown even when they are basking in sunlight and lying on green leaves. Skin color that is a mottled mix of bright green and dark brown spots is not necessarily a bad sign, as long as it is temporary condition during color changes. If the lizard's skin remains this mixture for long periods of time, it is also a symptom of malnourishment. Green Anoles can become malnourished even if they seem to be eating plenty, because they might not be receiving appropriate quantities of raw nutrients. This can be fixed by purchasing special nutrient powder at a pet store to sprinkle on the crickets or worms that are fed to the Green Anole.

It also lists worms as a common problem but says treatment is very expensive.

We had an anole lizard for 4 years and it sounds like it is shedding it's skin. Our lizard used to do that every once in awhile. And those white specks might be the start of the skin peeling off.

Best to keep an eye on him though just in case it is something else. You could ask at the pet store, our pet store was always very helpful and knowledgable. Good luck ~
