Last night around 10pm the phone rings and it's DD15 calling from camp to say the her glasses fell off when they were out canoeing and she, of course, couldn't get them. She was a very sad camper because her vision, especially at night, would be very poor without corrective lenses. She was trying to be a good samaritan because someone in her canoe had dropped a paddle and she went in for it and although she had a strap on the glasses, it floated up and over her head. Then she took off her PFD to try to dive for them.
That was the part that scared me to death because they were on the lake at dusk and she would have gone under and...
As far as the glasses go, we luckily have a wonderful optomitrist and they looked up her last frame and picked out something similar and wrote out the prescription and all we had to do was make the final frame choice and take them to the place that grinds the lenses. They were done in just a couple of hours.
We've been checking sporting goods stores but no one has anything to offer in a goggle that would fit over the prescription glasses so that when she goes to camp again in two weeks, we hopfully do not have to repeat this!!
