I've been on pins and needles these past few days because we had asked DD's friend's mom if she could go with us on our trip to WDW in June. I told her that I didn't want to put her on the spot and that my feelings wouldn't be hurt if she said no (DD's friend is 9). Well, she called back today and told me the answer is YES! :cheer2:

Anyway, I just thought I'd share it here because I'm sure you all will understand how excited we are to have DD's friend come along. I almost didn't want to because of some of the horror stories I'd heard on the Dis (ahem). :rotfl:

This is DD's friend's first trip. Any ideas of what I can do to make it special for her? Two things I've already thought of are to buy her a few pins off of e-bay to get her started on pin trading, and maybe getting her and DD a pair of matching tee shirts. Anything else? :rotfl:

How excting! I remember when you posted about the possiblity of your dd taking someone.

Maybe you could all make those tie dye mickey shirts together or design some t-shirts together? I would give each of the girls a disposable camera to take pictures with.

I like both those ideas. DH is really good at making tie dyes, so I bet he'd really be into that. I also like the camera idea -- I hadn't thought of that! We could get a multi-pack at home where it's cheaper and give the cameras to them when we get there. :thumbsup2 Thanks!

DH is happy too. It was his idea in the first place for DD to take someone. It also made me feel kind of good -- the child's mother told me if anyone else had asked she would have said no, but she trusts us and knows that we'd treat her DD like our own. :goodvibes

What about a session at the new kids' boutique at Dwontown Disney? They wouldn't have to get the gowns, but the could have their hair and nails done together :)

Have fun!!

The matching shirts are a good idea. When my older DD went with some friends that is what the girls did, they matched every day :teeth:

We are also taking a friend of my DD this April, they will both be 13. The girls are so excited, they made a countdown calander the other night.

I think it's a great idea, as much as DD likes to be with us having a friend along will make things even better. Besides everyone knows Disney is set up for 4. :rotfl:

I don't know about that -- what is it? We weren't able to make it to DTD on our last trip, so we're talking about doing it on our first day there this time.

The new boutique in DTD (World of Disney?) is called the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. There is a spot in the news area on the DIS homepage (there are also several threads out there discussing it.) For ages 3 and up, hair and shimmery makeup is $35, hair, makeup and nails is $45, the whole package, including a princess gown, accessories, photo package, hair, nails and makeup starts at $175. They DO take reservations (180 days) and there are only 10 chairs, so spots might go fast. They HAVE started taking reservations already.

Have a great trip w/ daughter and friend!

How about one of the princess charm bracelets for them both? You could offer to do this and get a princess from each park and then when they got home they would have like a best friends matching bracelet to wear. The charms aren't very expensive but are very cute.

I'd say get her some mouse ears!!!!

We often took an extra person (child) with us when we went to Disneyworld and it was always a ball especially if it's the persons first time, like it is with your DD's friend. Very cool.

Now you asked what you can do to make it special for her.......please don't take this the wrong way but honestly....just GOING to Disneyworld is incredibly special. I've never understood the extra gift baskets and toys people give their kids to make an already spectacular thing MORE spectacular. Watch her eyes as she meets the characters and experiences DW for her first time and you'll see what I mean.

Have a wonderful trip!! I always enjoyed seeing the World from the eyes of a newbie! :cool1:

I know you're right! I just enjoy going overboard for things like this. :rotfl: Part of the fun last year was trying to do little things for DD, like buying some pins off of e-bay for pin trading, and buying her a few princess shirts for the trip. It really helped build the anticipation and make it more "real" for her.

Oh, and thanks for the idea for the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! I made an appointment for the girls for our Cinderella's Royal Gala dinner. That'll be a nice surprise for them!

A special present for her parents would to be to take a picture of (just ) her with her favorite character.

Remember to get insurance card, list any allergies, and note what over the counter medicines she is used to taking(know her weight), like Tylenol for a fever or headache. Ask for all the information you would want someone to know who would be taking your child on vacation. Have a wonderful magical trip!

Just a suggestion: jump over to the Creative DISigns board and check out soem of the T-shirt designs there. Or, ask one of the most talented designers to do something special for your dd and her friend.

Congrats on getting to take her! You'll have a great time!

Excellent ideas when you bring along someone elses child. We also brought along a current photo of the child, usually a school photo or anything taken recently enough to still resemble the kid was good enough. LOL

As far as pictures and movies go, one of the little girls we took with us has since passed away and the movies and photos we took of her enjoying Disneyworld are precious to her parents. Bring lots of film. :sunny:

How exciting! I bet the girls are thrilled! I'm sure no matter what you do, they will both have a wonderful trip just being with eachother in WDW. So don't feel pressured to do anything "special". As a previous poster said, just taking them is wonderful enough!

One thing you could do, though, is take them to the barber shop in MK. They do something called pixie dust there. It is 5$ to get pixie dusted. I'm not sure if it costs extra to have it braided, but I'm sure it won't be too much. It's only 12$ to get a hair cut I believe. I'm sure they would have a lot of fun with that. I really want to get my hair pixie dusted when I'm there in 2 weeks (YIKES, thats approaching quickly!), but we'll be performing the day we're in MK, so I don't think our instructor and band director would be thrilled with me having like red hair and confetti. LOL.

Thanks for the practical tips! I hadn't thought to get a list of all that, but it's a great idea.

I plan on taking plenty of pics too! We're taking one of our laptops so I can download the pictures every day, plus I'll probably write a trip report to share with them too.

How about putting a box together for each of them and shipping it before you leave so they find them in the hotel room. Perhaps some autograph books, mouse ears, etc. I don't think it has to be anything to spectacular but that way the friend also gets some great souvenoirs and it will be a total suprise, you could also enclose an invitation to the salon with the time that they will be going there. Perhaps some postcards too so when they do arrive they can send them to their friends. I am sure some of us locally could get some and forward them to you before hand to put in the box.
