She has complained off & on for a year about her eyes burning - when she watches tv or the smartboard @ school. She's just mentioned it again - she's bee playing on the computer about 30 mins & just came in to watch tv.

For the tv @home she sits way back - the computer is a bit closer of course, and @ school they get moved all the time.

Last school year I took her to an eye dr (can't remember what kind it was - it was a dr recommended by several people in the area) and she said her eyes are perfect.:confused3

so now what? This seems to be the only thing that bothers her - she doesn't hold her book up close & she doesn't fuss about them burning when she's reading.

This is going to sound really odd - but here goes anyway.

There is something (sorry -it probably should be a proper medical term) that people tend not to blink when they are staring at a compute screen. This is why my eye doctor recommends that I take a break from looking at the computer screen and focus on something across the room or office every 10 minutes or so.

My eye doctor also recommended using eye drops if I get that "computer-eye fatigue" thing. It happens every so often, especially if I am concetrating on a big project.

Get her some Soothe eye drops. They are fantastic and will help lubricate her eyes.

With nothing else wrong, not blinking could very well be the culprit.

When I first got contacts, I went back as soon as I could because I thought there was something very very wrong. Burning, horrible pain...the opt watched me for a few minutes and gave me a lesson in how to blink properly, LOL. Voila, no pain or burning.

The lesson was close your eyes fully, all the way closed, then open. Do it mindfully and slowly.

Sounds simple, but I'd forgotten how to blink properly, once those contacts were in.

I could have totally written your post! My DD does wear glasses, but she complains about her eyes burning sometimes also. I'm going to start paying better attention to see if it's at times when she may not be blinking enough.

Sounds like dry eyes.

Dehydration is one thing, make sure you are well hydrated.

Overhead fans will dry out your eyes. My older dd & I cannot have the overhead fans on when we sleep because apparently we do not close our eyes tightly when we sleep.

Check your lighting as well. Perhaps switch to the "softer" bulbs or the "natural light" bulbs - those have always helped me. If the lighting is too harsh, or there's too much glare, the eyes can burn.

Thanks for the tips! DH bought some drops - I think artificial tears? she hasn't mentioned it today - so I didn't bother putting them in yet.
Dry eyes is not something I had ever thought about before - I bet that's it 'cause she does get into a show & will tune us out - so I can bet she's forgetting to blink...:thumbsup2

I get this from my lap top not tv. My eyes will burn from being dry not blinking. They will also tear up.
