DD has alway wanted to swim with the dolphins. We used to have season passes to Seaworld in Cleveland and we have been to Sea World in Orlando twice. At Discovery Cove she can when she is 6.

Unfortunately, I switched jobs and did not get a bonus I was expecting. It looks as though we will not be able to afford a trip to DC in Feb.

We would like to take her on a weekend getaway.

Any ideas for a less expensive trip for a 6 year old. (Disney is definately not a finanical option)

is the mini vaction now, or in the summer

How far will you think you'd be able to travel? A day trip, a couple of hours, a weekend?:)

How about a weekend trip to Hershey, PA?

How about Baltimore? The aquarium is great and they have lots of winter events to entice visitors. Disney on ice will be there in early February. Here's a good site for info:

How much are you looking to spend in time and/or money? There are lots of really great weekend trips that are fun.

How about a quick trip to Washington DC? The Smithsonian museums are free and filled with amazing treasures like Dorothy's slippers, art work from the Masters, space capsules, dinosaur fossils and bones, rare gems, gorgeous sculptures and magnificent monuments.

Or there's a quick trip to NYC...see a show, soak up the city's buzz, explore the neighborhoods.

Boston is also a great place to come visit...lots of history, shopping, beautiful sights, great restaurants. Lots to do.

All these are less expensive than DC but still cost a bit. Sometimes my DD (7) and I just head into the nearest big city which is Boston (only a half hour away) and get a room for overnight in a hotel with a pool. We visit old favorites and find new places, have dinner out some place really nice where we have to get dressed up and then come back to go swimming until bed, order in breakfast from room service, swim some more and then check out. Feels like we've been away but it really is just down the road. It's so much fun.

We want to go for a long weekend. Because of the season, we have to be midful of the weather.

I have budgetted about $1,000.
