DDP WITHOUT making ressies?

Hey all, we did the DDP last year when we went to Disney. Loved it. We also made all our ressies way ahead of time. No problem.

We will be going again in June (with the DDP) and I was thinking of just "winging" it, this time. Is this possible? Or is the DDP so popular that I won't be able to get a seat in a restaurant that we want to dine in unless making the ressie ahead of time?

It won't be a problem either way but I was just thinking that maybe this time we could just stop what we're doing when we're hungry and THEN go eat instead of running to the restaurant at a particular time whether we're hungry or not. LOL

What do you think?

Personally, I wouldn't do it in June but I might do it in a slower season.

If you wait until you are hungry, will your family readily agree to all go to the same place, or are you likely to debate it for awhile and then decide? That can eat up valuable touring time too and I'm not sure I would want to do that in high season. Winging it is certainly do-able but it would make me nuts!

Why not make preliminary reservations?

If you decide on a given day that you want to change your mind, simply cancel the reservations. Someone else will gladly take them.

But otherwise, you may find that you have paid for a vacation's worth of table service meals, and that you're unable to get them at a reasonable time.

If I were planning to wing it, I think I would skip the DDP.

I woudn't try it in June. The DP is VERY popular and June is a very busy month for crowds. You may find alot of restaurants not taking any walkups. If you were going out of pocket and using your credits were not an issue I would wing it, but when you are paying for credits and find you can't use them because of no TS are avail.it is not fun

We just got back and were on the DDP. We had ADR's for every day we were there, although we were not able to make a couple of them. I called a few times to try and get last minute ressies and it was very difficult to find anything available (being very flexible about time and place). Last minute ressies were usually at 3pm or 9pm - not ideal! I was able to get a Chef Mickey ressie for the next day at 7:30am - early, but do-able and we still got into the park at a reasonable time. There were only three of us, and I would think that a larger group would be more difficult to make last minute plans for. This was a busy time of year, probably comparible crowd-wise to June if I had to guess. I agree with the pp - I would make tentative ADRs so that at least you have something to "fall back on". It sucks to have pre-paid meals and then not be able to get into a restaurant!
