DDP with DVC

I read somewhere that you could buy the DDP if renting points from a dvc owner. But, if there is a free dining promo, can you get it for free or do you need the whole package?

No free dining with DVC, it has to be a package price.

There is no option to get free dining on a DVC reservation. The free dining is available only with a resort package reservation including a room at full rack rate plus at least 2 day tickets.

You can get any DDP you want on a DVC rental, but only by paying for it. It's possible free dining would not have been your best deal, though, as you're getting a substantial discount on the room by renting points, and you can purchase tickets from a discount broker if you want instead of buying them through Disney at full price.

Remember the "free dining" is a resort package discount to fill the resorts during lower demand periods, not just Disney giving away food for the heck of it. DVC owners (and subsequently, renters) get their discounts for lower demand periods through lower points costs per day/week as compared to peak rates.
