So I need some opinions! We are headed to Disney for 9nights/10days at AKL just myself and DS who is 7. I cannot decide which dinning plan to do. I want to not have to worry about paying OOP while we are there and we are there long enough to enjoy several signature meals. We both love to eat, and eat out we do it quite frequently at home. I'm worried that the DDP might be to little but the DxDP to much. Please help! I also don't want to spend the extra for the DxDP if it is not worth it! Also we are going to do several character meals, I'd like to do the one of the shows one night as well. It's really DS first memorable trip so we want to fully enjoy! Please help I'm really confused!:confused3

Go for it! It sounds like you really want to do the DxDDP, but just need someone to push you over to it.

With all the meals you would LIKE to do, you'll easily break even and probably come out way ahead (especially with the 7 yr old's price).

Is free dining offered during your trip? If so, you only need to pay the upgrade from whatever plan you get free.

Do the math before deciding. It helps that you are traveling with a child as DDP prices are generally better deals for kids than for adults.

The general rule of thumb is that if you're going to use at least 2/3 of your meal credits for TS that DxDP will likely be the way to go. That's still pretty variable based on where you'd go and what you'd order, though, so it's best to get an idea of where you'd like to go and what types of things you're likely to order, then work out an estimate of the OOP costs.

The DDP is really only worthwhile if you maximize it.

While the DxDP can be way too much food, it can create value without taking advantage of *every* entitlement. As you are paying much less *per credit* while actually getting more.

As long as you are going to average 2 TS meals per night, and as long as you are getting some value out of the rest of your credits, then the DxDP will likely save you something.

Thanks for all of your help! I know we could eat 2TS meals/day no problem so it would be worthwhile for the upgrade to DxDP. Either way I just want to enjoy and have the ability to do whatever we want this trip so I think it's the way to go. Thanks again!!!!!!

Straight 2 meals isn't enough to make the DxDP worthwhile. But if some of those meals are 2-credits... if you use the other credits for some value, then yes.. it's worth it.

This is our first trip. We are going during FD and upgrading to DxDP. That said, we probably would have done DxDP even if FD wasn't offered because I still think we'd break even, given the way we eat and I think that is what makes a difference. If you are happy with QS., etc. and don't want to plan much down time from the parks, then I think the basic DP would do just fine. If you really like to sit down and relax, have a finer dining experience, etc. then I think DxDP better suits IMO.

It made good sense for us because we love sit down dinners. DH and I (especially DH) really love apps and I love dessert. So, we have two signatures booked. Although I am content with a grab and go breakfast, DH really likes a sit down. Lunch - we don't want to waste too much time at a TS, so we are going with QS/CS and we'll still come out way ahead.

I just did some calculations and even paying a little less than $400 to upgrade, we'll pretty much make that up on breakfast alone.

Some people also like it because it makes it more "all inclusive" and you don't have to worry too much about budgeting while on vacation.

Whatever you choose, have fun and enjoy!! :goodvibes

Agree with the above poster. The Deluxe dining plan really only makes sense if your plans include Signature dining. You are getting three credits per day, per person. It's very hard to have three sit down meals a day to make the plan worth it. One Signature meal and one regular meal.....that's easy, and that's how we use the Deluxe plan, and it is a good deal.

As another poster said, do the math if you know where you want to eat. You can estimate the cost using menus available online. Comapre the total cost of meals to the cost of the Deluxe plan. If the Deluxe plan is less, go for it. If not, don't.

We sound a lot like you, for our Feb trip, it will just be my three oldest childrent and I going with the Dxddp. We love to eat out and all of my children love to try new things. My oldest loves all things steak so the Dxddp was the way to go for us. We are planning a few 2ts credit meals and sit doesn for most of the other credits. Have fun!

We did the DxDP last year and as we like to eat mainly at 2 credit signature restaurants each day it worked out really well for us. :)
