DDP vs DxDP plan?

We've split stay. 1st reservation is first night where we'll arrive well over midnight. So no point in planning anything. 2nd reservation is for 4 nights.

We're thinking about getting DxDP for the next 4 nights. 2 adults 1 child. Questions :

1. When will the dining plan start? If I check in online for my 2nd reservation, I should be able to activate my plan head to a character breakfast at 8am the day my 2nd ressie starts? Same for the refillable mug? I don't plan on being in the 2nd hotel until way later that night.

2. DxDP drink plan. 3 drinks pp / day right? Can another adult use my child's drinks? Aka, Can I get hot choco + wine + coffee daily on behalf of my child's plan?

3. The meal for DxDP includes appetizer + meal + dessert, right? And I can substitue dessert with app? Or something else?

It's a last min trip in May so I can't find seats for most of the popular restaurants. I still wonder if DxDP will worth it. We can only get 2nd tier character/signature dinning.

Your dining plan should be active on the day you check into your 2nd resort if you do online check-in. If, for some reason it is not, just charge the breakfast to your room and have guest services fix it when you get to your 2nd stay that evening. I'm not sure about the refillable mug. Seems like you should be able to pick it up at your first location on that morning, but they may require you to get it at the resort where you have the dining plan.

You cannot get an alcoholic drink with a child's meal. If you use your child's credit to buy another adult an adult meal, then that adult can get an alcoholic drink. But if you buy your child any meal (adult or child) with that credit, it will only include a regular drink.

You would only get 3 alcoholic drinks if you eat 3 meals AND then only if each restaurant you choose has an alcoholic drink on the menu. Some places in MK do not, some breakfast places do not.

You cannot substitute an app for your dessert. If you don't want dessert, you MAY be able to get a cup of soup, a side salad, or an extra veggie instead of that dessert, but that will be at the discretion of each individual restaurant.

Thank you. Very helpful. 1 more question. If I go with DDP, does the meal also come with app + dessert?

I'm still torn between the 2 plans. If I only do DDP, then I'll still have to pay OOP for 1 meal. But DxDP seems overboard for us.

Basic DDP does not include appetizers at a standard TS meal.

If it comes down to the math, DDP plus one meal OOP is probably better than DxDP, especially if you're already thinking the latter is overkill. Unless you really like your desserts and are ok adding a few more TS meals in place of CS meals.

We find lots of availability at booked restaurants the day before when guests cancel to avoid the cancellation fee.

Only DxDDP comes with the app. I always get it, but only have 2 meals per day. I tried 3 the first time we got the DxDDP and by day 2, I called and cancelled our lunches for the remainder of the trip. WAY too much food..even for my teen boys.

We have breakfast with characters each morning, using 1 - 2 credits, and then signature dinner/dinner show most evenings. Credits last until midnight the day you leave and start at 7am the day you arrive, regardless of whether you have actually checked in at the hotel Online checkin is all that is needed. We get a rare ice cream or snack during our trip and use the many many many snack credits left over to bring home krispy treats, mickey bars, Minnie cookies etc...as souvenirs for the kids friends (we stay 11 nights and there is 5 of us = 110 snack credits!!) We usually have 5 - 10 dining credits left over (1 or 2 per person). We can also trade those in for 3 snacks each. Do we lose a little $$, probably, but I love not worrying about a thing while Im on vacation and having it all paid for before our trip. I havent been since 04/17 and heard you also now get an alcoholic beverage with your meal. Ill have to read into that, but if the cost didnt got up, this would make the deal even better.
