I know economically speaking that the DDP is a great deal. However, expand your waistbands just a little, because you eat sooo much food, it's crazy!

We just got back and were on the DDP for 8 nights. We had some good meals, and we definitely saved money, but, if I see 1 more dessert item I might just hurl! Dessert with our counter service, Dessert with our sit down service. I know, I could have said no,:rolleyes1, but, I didn't, we did pay for it!

Raglan Road did let us swap out 2 of our desserts for the fork of Scallop appetizer, which was nice.

Just be prepared to eat alot of food, more than normal if your family gets the DDP!

I agree! We were also there last week for 8 days and even after all that walking I gained 2 pounds and my son gained 3. And I felt so guilty throwing food away. One dessert a day is plenty even for myself, a sugarholic.

I don't think there is ever too much food! We didn't gain any weight (9 nights) because of all that exercise. Although the problem I had was when we came home we all wanted dessert after every meal!

LOL! That was me when I got home, I was thinking, hmmm, where's the ice cream????

We were the opposite we didn't think it was too much and we are not normally dessert or appetizer people (we went back when both were included). I actually lost 5 pounds. I was expecting to gain weight so I was thrilled.

I also think that it wasn't too much food. Sure, it was more than we would have eaten if we weren't on the DDP. With all the walking we did though we either lost weight or just stayed the same, as in my case. :confused3 DDP was a nice treat for us nevertheless. And we are very much looking forward to the DDP again in September!

Our last trip we had to pay out of pocket for like 6 or 7 meals in the 6 nights we were there.
I'm thinking we need to do deluxe this time cuz the regular is just not enough for us.
But I DO eat a lot :-)
I do understand the too many desserts thing though. And good to know that raglan road let you swap for an appetizer!

I love the DDP and think it is the perfect amount of food - I guess we are one of those weird families that eat at least two meals and a snack a day(?). We have been on the DDP a number of times and I have never gained weight. In fact I usually lose between 5 and 7 pounds when we are at WDW. Love, love, love the Disney Dining Plan.

While the dessert with every meal was a bit of an overload, but I don't think 2 meals a day and a snack (which for us was often a beverage) was too much.

I didn't think it was too much food, but I also like booking some 2TS meals so I don't have to eat at a TS every night.

When having the dining plan and having dinners we found it to be too much food, the last time we had our big meal for lunch and felt better about the dp.:):):)

We had the ddp and it worked perfect for my wife Son (4) and I. The main reason it worked well is because we had 2 meals that took 2 TS meals. So what we did so we didn't have to buy much food is we used the snack for b-fast for my wife and son (usually a bagel, fruit or english muffin) and then the 3 of us were able to share 2 QS meals because of the large portions. For the QS meal desserts we usually got cookies, yogurt, fruit or something else we could take back to the hotel so our son could have a bed time snack.

The whole time there (8 days) we only had to buy 1 meal and we just ordered pizza from Dominos.

I am no skinny minnie by a long shot.. and I find the regular ddp to be ALOT of food. I could never understand how people were using the Deluxe dining plan until it occurred to me that many of those meals would be 2 credits.
We have noticed that if we order an app when we go out (like a soup for example) then we can't get through our main meal.
A breakfast in our room of some fruit and a granola bar or cereal .. then a counter service lunch and a Table service dinner was more than enough for us.
However I am thinking of making our table service dinners later this time. A big lunch around 1 and then a full dinner at 5 was just not enough time in between.

Yea, as much as I love dessert, one a day is plenty. Especially when you could get something sweet with a snack credit.

I would rather get an extra bottle of water sometimes over a dessert with my CS. The heat just drains me.

We went when you got an appy also. It was a lot of food but yes, with all the walking we didn't gain any weight. I actually lost weight.

But now, they have taken the appy off the plan. I think that is a fine decision. I think it might be just right for us now.

We just got back doing Deluxe, and mostly TS meals (17 TS (19 total credits) and 2 CS over 7 nights).

It is a lot of food, but I didn't find it to be "too much". Of course, I have a plenty healthy appetite normally, and more so when I've been outside walking all day.

I doubt I really gained weight on the trip itself -- it was the week after getting back, before I got back on my diet, where I gained whatever weight I was going to, and at least half of that was water weight, judging by how often I had to run to the bathroom!

Are you really saving money if you wouldn't have ordered all those desserts and all that food otherwise? If you added up what you would have ordered if you were paying OOP, would you still have saved money? For us, our food costs have always been less that what the DDP would cost us.

I see what your saying, we usually order the most expensive entrees on the menu, if I wasn't on the DDP, I'd be more $ conscious on my entrees. So, I still feel we save money on the plan.

My husband and I laugh about not being "foodies" anywhere but at WDW. We aren't big breakfast eaters so we bring along snack type foods for breakfast (Pop Tarts, granola bars, etc.). We use our counter service credit for lunch, a snack credit for a mid-day snack and our table service credit for a dinner reservation. We have found that, with the dining plan, we are more apt to try new restaurants and new foods. If we didn't want our dessert that came with the counter service meal, we took it along with us and ate if for a snack. On those days, we used our snack credit for something to drink.

This past August, we went to Disney without the dining plan and we said we would NEVER go to Disney again without the dining plan. Well.....unless that's the only way we could go to WDW.

If the DDP wasn't being offered as a perk, my family's eating habits would definately be altered a bit. We would split alot of meals and certainly no appetizers or desserts. We'd probably have greasy counter service for EVERY SINGLE MEAL yuk! :scared: I think of the DDP as a treat...because we never eat like that at home or on vacation.
