Okay I want to be as thorough as possible so forgive me if I get long winded!
We arrived on November 19th (6 adults-two of which were teen girls ages 12 and 14) and departed on Nov 25th. We were two parties (1 party of 4,and 1 party of 2) and we dined together almost every meal on the Dining Plan.
This was our combined 8th trip to Disney, beginning in 1973. We all stayed at the Yacht Club.
I would do the DDP again, only because you cannot beat the value. Even if as a family we only ordered drinks and an entree at dinner (which is what we do at home), we still would have exceeded the cost of the DDP per person per day. Our average day with meals, snacks and drinks was about $200.00. We did eat a table service every night.
At first, we did feel pressured to try and fit all the food in and we felt miserable and sick. Toward the end of the trip,we were just ordering what we normally eat and we were fine. We gave our dessert away two nights that we were there and my parents ended up with 3 unused counter service meals.
I did notice a change in the quality of the food from our previous trip in 2000.
So without further adieu-here you go!
Monday-Rose and Crown
We had shrimp cocktail, fruit and cheese plates and potato and leek soup.
Our entrees were fish and chips and the steak and fish.
Our dessert was the chocolate guiness cake, the bailey's parfait and the apple crumb dessert.
Food quality here was fair to good. The steak was tough, but the fish and chips were very good.
Our experience was marred by the fact that it was 45 degrees and they sat us outside. They did have large kerosene heaters, but we were freezing!!
They moved us to the next level that was shielded by tarp like things and it was better, but still pretty cold. We had a great view of Illuminations.
Tuesday-Ohanas
We had a fireworks table sort of. Our view was blocked by the pillars and trees, but if we scooched to one side we could see.
Our initial server was brusque. He plopped down the won tons and sauce and ran away without telling us what it was. There was another girl that came around and she was nicer. When I asked the initial server about the sauces when he brought our drinks, he mumbled something and walked away.
The food was good, but the meat was really salty. They were really pushing the sausage and only offered us steak once. The turkey and chicken were pretty tender. They no longer offer the shrimp on the skewers, only small shrimp on bowls as appetizers. The steak was chewy and tough. This was the first place I noticed a decline in food and service.
Wednesday-'50's Prime Time Cafe
This is one of our old favorites, but again I noticed a decline in the food.
We had shrimp cocktail, chicken soup, ceasar salad and fried cheese and onion rings for appetizers. They were all pretty standard.
Our entrees were, the pot roast, meatloaf and fried chicken.
The pot roast that I normally get was way different. It was lukewarm, and the it was piled on top of a small dollop of potatoes, with shredded carrots and celery on top of that. The meat was tough (beginning to sense a theme here with the beef) and the potatoes were salty.
The fried chicken was good, and the meatloaf was excellent.
We gave our dessert away. Our server was pleasant, without being overy animated.
Thursday-Yacht Club Galley
Thanksgiving Dinner
It was disappointing. They ran out of ham at 4:00. They had trouble keepimg everything else stocked. They were trying to conserve the turkey, so they were slicing it into paper thin cuts. No whole pies, only tart like.
We have had our Thanksgiving meal here every trip and this was by far the worst it has ever been.
Friday-Donalds Breakfastsaurus
This was a great buffet, and they had a nice selection. The quiche was great!
The characters, except for Pluto, were kind of dull. They seemed bored this time.
Friday-LeCellier
EXCELLENT!!! This was by far the best meal we had the entire trip!! Our server was very nice the whole time!
We had the cheese soup, beef barley soup and the beefsteak tomatos for our appetizers. All were superb!!! The bread was good too.
I had the filet for dinner, which was like butter and my husband had the prime rib. All excellent!!!
We ordered the mushrooms, and the asparagus as sides and we gobbled those down.
We gave our dessert away.
We paid out of pocket for the extra appetizer, the sides and the beer but it was soooo worth it!! A++++++++
My parents ate at the Sci-Fi with the kids. They reported it was good and it hadn't changed from their last visit.
All in all the food this time was a bust. There was a lot of it, but the quality to me seemed subpar. I guess if you have not visited in years past, and have nothing to compare to, you would probably think nothing of it.
We had no problems using our snacks,(lots of hot chocolate and coffee) but we struggled with our counter service. We were never hungry enough during the day for more than a snack. We did eat breakfast in our room as a time saver. We had a delivery from Garden Grocer, which was great.
I will say the best bang for your buck on counter service is in EPCOT. We had the orange chicken bowl in China one day and it was yummy!!! All the countries offer great counter service options that are more than just a sandwhich, chips and drinks.
I hope this was helpful. Please feel free to ask any questions- and again these were only my personal observations yours may differ and that is A-okay!!
Take care!
