Just food for thought...(no pun intended...)

I have read several times on here where folks say they "didn't" use 4 or 5 CS of ther DDP while vacationing at Disney and the credits expired.

My husband and I were in this same dilemma last June. We were down to our last evening at SSR at around 6pm and we were leaving the next day at 4am...when we discovered we had 6 CS's left!! We ate our last TS at the Turf 'Club (a 10 out of 10!) then we went over to Artist Palette. We just hung around and watched for families going thru the line and asked if they were on any sort of dining plan. It took about 3 times of asking when we found a family of 4 that we gladly bought their dinner. Then another group of 3 (mom/dad/child) came thru. We bought two of theirs. All families were delighted and we probably saved the 2 families at least $90 combined! They thanked us profusely.

Yes, it did take a little bit of time...perhaps 20 minutes...but the look of joy on these folks faces made it all worthwhile. It was a win-win situation. We didn't 'waste' any CS and we made 2 families have a little more spending money while at WDW! We had pre-paid for these meals and could not use them so why should the money go back into the Disney fund...? :) We totally enjoy helping others out.

That is awesome that you took the time to do that. I am sure you helped make their vacations a little more magical. I love it when I am in a position to pass along something like this.

It makes me feel just as good (if not better) than the person I am helping. It's good for the karma too. ;)

We haven't been before and, obviously, haven't used the dining plan before, so I'm curious as to how this worked. All of the literature I have read says things are non-transferable. Did you have to pretend the meals were for you? Or did the CMs allow it easily? I'd love to do this if we have credits left over.

Unfortunately Disney has changed the rules to forbid this. Now, only those members on said plan are entitled to use those credits. Its my understanding CM's can get in quite a bit of trouble if they do this knowingly.

It used to be kind of a tradition to "Pay it forward," especially with paper media like coupons. Years ago, I used to do it on our last day every trip .

But Disney has now gone to great lengths to stop that practice. They literally look at the practice now almost as stealing. Don't forget that DDP pricing is based, to some degree, on an anticipated underuse of the program.

Angelmav is correct, your kindness could get a CM fired. I've paid DDP credits forward a couple of times in previous years, but in this environment, I wouldn't risk some CM's job to do so.

There was a manager standing there at the Artist Pallet area....we even told her what we were doing. She smiled and told us it was very nice. I doubt anyone was fired. We didn't 'transfer' anything to anyone...we physically paid for each meal ourselves.

Everyone can do what they wish with their credits, I was just sharing what we did last year.

Last year we "bought" the family behind us their food w/ ours at Cosmic Rays. It worked great as we had 4 cs left, with the heat we didnt eat much every day!

We have both bought other families meals (just nice families we meet at Disney) and also given our cards to our own families members. Disney will not find out unless you tell them. We have done this since the dining plan has come out and no one has ever been questioned or shown id. Thats wonderful Esmeralda!

i don't believe jim was suggesting that "anyone was fired", etc at that time. :)
most ppl would be happy to use their extras for others (as we have done; heck, last visit we paid OOP for a few kids (strangers ~ we asked their parents) that really, really, really wanted some popcorn, no biggie for us but made for some really, really, really happy kids lol ).
the credits were never transferrable (i.e., for use other than the person it was purchased for), but currently they are actually enforcing that clause (again to paraphrase jim, because the "DDP pricing is based on anticipated unuse", misusing the DDP as it was intended will not only most likely raise the price of the DDP, but can also cost a CM their job :sad1: ).
hth :)

Exactly. This is something that they used to ignore but have taken measures to shore up. Just like the pooling of Adult and Child credits, box of douhnuts for a snack credit, etc etc just another change. Just because they let you do it in the past, please dont assume that is the case now (It is in fact very much NOT the case and could get a CM fired if they do so).
